after 3 weeks now, I find the tires to be very good...I've ran 615's and 555's before and I can certainly say that ultimate grip is definitely better with the V12's...and of course, its tread rating is much better than the 615's...

overall, I'm happy with the purchase, and the squirrelly at hard braking has disappeared...

I don't plan to push these or run them hard on the street...worst case, maybe as a rain tire on track if it get hairy...so for the grip and treadwear these offer, I'd recommend and also consider them again if I replace these...

Nazarite 05-04-2010 01:10 PM

I just got mine installed yesterday (225/40/18). First impression, stuck well with no squeling through a few aggressive turns, not much chance to really tear them up yet.

Chinsel 05-04-2010 04:52 PM

I guess nobody orders this with standard tires specs of 215/45-18

I did. I wanted to get new wheels (wider) but I'm tight on money lately, so I just got the stock size.

Are you looking for a review? I've had mine for about 2 months now. Overall I like them a lot better than the Potenzas. Pretty much like everyone else says. They're more comfortable over harsh bumps (comfort). They're more grippy in the turns. Noticeably less chirping/spinning on aggressive starts. I'm more confident with them in the rain. And tread pattern is more pleasing lol. Oh and they're some of the most affordable out there.

I did as well. Now about 400 miles on these tires. Good grip and low road noise. With a bit more air they have pretty good road feel.

Oh yeah and less road noise too like Design said.

Umm. How much was it... I didn't have any discount or special deal on mine. They were 119 each (476 for all four) and with tax that was 524.16 shipped to the local installer. Installation was about another 80 bucks by the way (about 18 or 20 bucks for each wheel). This was from tirerack.com by the way.

But I've read recently about coupons or discounts on this tire.

Nazarite 05-05-2010 11:38 AM

onlinetires.com I paid $108 each plus shipping. ended up being 502, something like that, minus $50 for rebate, + 72 for install. grand total of 525 I believe

superskaterxes 05-05-2010 12:22 PM

wooo just ordered!

Nazarite 05-05-2010 12:28 PM

Where'd you go?

Bonafide_Spd3 05-11-2010 03:47 PM

Nice, thanks for all the reviews, I need tires pretty bad, I've had my stockers on for almost 40k. Really looking forward to getting traction again. Good thing I didn't go back to the stock tires again since these seem much better. Thanks guys

free_refil 05-13-2010 08:09 PM

For $108 for the 225/40/18's on onlinetires.com, you can't beat that price!!!

Compared to bald RE50's anything would be better lol.

For the price, the Hankook's are tough to beat. I've racked on a few hundred miles so far and love them.

himynameisevan 05-20-2010 04:39 PM

funny I ordered a set of these in 225/45/18 before I even saw this thread. Glad I went with the V12 evos seeing that most you guys with them enjoyed them. Ordered from discount tire direct, not the cheapest place but I was in need of tires badly.

FridayGt 05-30-2010 06:46 AM

Anyone find any recent sales on these things?

Really? Why no tax in CA? I got my last set from tirerack and they shipped from NV and I think they charged tax iirc.

daafisch 06-01-2010 09:28 PM

I just got these installed last week. So far I really like them. A lot quieter than the star specs I have and seem to perform just as good (haven't pushed them as hard as the star specs). A major improvement over the stock bridgstones.

kwsmithphoto 06-02-2010 02:21 AM

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

Once my stock tires were shredded I bought a set of Star Specs. They have a lot of grip in certain situations, and are good on the road, but they're wearing out fast. And I miss the razor sharp steering feel of of the stock tires.

The RE05A's have a sinister big brother, the S-03 Pole Position version. They are very expensive, but they share the same basic tread design and construction of the stock tires. Which aren't nearly as bad as some people say - they suck with high miles, but fresh, they work pretty damn well.

I like my Star Specs but I miss certain things about the stock tires. Mainly steering response, and they didn't understeer as much. The Pole Position variant is a top rated tire on the Tire Rack user reviews, so I might just pony up when the Star Spec's are shot (which shouldn't be long). I'd like to save money but I never skimp on tires, they hold you to the ground. My guess is that since the PP's share the same tread design, they'll be a good match for the car.

Now all I need is the money to buy a set, lol. For what they cost, Michelin PS2's are very tempting, they're a very good tire too. Well, I figure I have about one more track day and a 1000 road miles on the Dunlops. They are very good at what they're very good at, which is 1-2 warm up laps then they get fast for 1-2 laps before going off.

The stock RE05A's are a pretty good road tire for a while, then they get hard and lose grip. Great learning tire for an HPDE enthusiast. But I want more, and I'm not getting them from the Star Spec's. These Hankooks sound like a great budget tire, but I'm pretty used to spending a grand every summer for the best, because I need them.

Tirerack may have a warehouse in CA that's why they're allowed to charge you tax. Discounttiredirect.com does NOT have a warehouse in CA.

TegRacer324 06-04-2010 11:24 AM

Allowed to charge you tax? They're made to charge you tax. They don't get the tax the state does.

MGM_GT3 06-07-2010 04:35 PM

FYI... Hankook extended their rebates for select tires including the V12 Evo's til 6/30/10

Great Catch!

dannyboy1234 06-08-2010 01:47 AM

Picked these up two weeks ago... Pretty badass for the price.

I went stock size (it makes sense because the original tire best fits the stock wheel).

Really good wet grip and good dry grip. Turn in is a little slow but it pays off on the freeway cuz these suckers are quiet and comfortable. I recommend the stock size to everyone purchasing this tire.

Hmmm, maybe I should order some more before the rebate expires again.
Mine are almost, but not quite done.
If I had somewhere to store the damn things.........

ChrisK 06-08-2010 11:24 AM

I got mine installed last weekend. Great tire! Big upgrade over my neogen's. I'm surprised on how quite they are.

Keep them in your hatch. That way when you walk someone in a race you can tell them that you have four extra tires in the back as well... lol

MGM_GT3 06-08-2010 01:08 PM

Mine are in the garage sitting.. Gonna drive down to SoCAL to pick up my new rims... Not gonna tell you guys what kind yet... I'll post up pictures after my fenders are rolled and new rims installed. :)

RLS1400 06-17-2010 07:40 AM

Have had these mounted for a few weeks now, awesome tire so far. Got these in 225/45 on an 8 inch wheel.

Previously had Nitto 555s, which were okay when new, but gradually got awful with miles.

Speed 3 Demon 07-04-2010 09:05 AM

I had the hankook ventus v12 evo k110 tires installed about a month and a half ago. I've put them through hard acceleration, turning, dry and wet conditions, hard braking, rough roads... you name it. I found them to be an improvement in every way over stock. Subjective of course, but I like them a lot. I'd recommend them if you don't want to spring for the "supercar" tires.

Mr.Tampa23 07-04-2010 09:46 AM

I have heard of a lot of people going with the Hankook Ventus V12's are they as good as as advertised are or is it more of a bonus buy because there a cheap performance tire? How well are they incomparison to Falkens? I am needing new tires as well and I have had Falkens on my past rides and liked them. Any suggestions would be helpful.......

I understand not wanting to read 5 pages if you don't have the time but reading the last page would be a good compromise. This was just at the top of page 5.

Mr.Tampa23 07-04-2010 04:45 PM

I have been reading more about the Hankook tires and I think these are going to be the tires for me. Not only all the responses everyone has given about them but also what car and drive and consumer report has said. Thats why I love this forum, being able to get peoples opinions before you buy the wrong part and want to kick yourself for doing it.

I wanted something as grippy as stock but quieter, and hopefully cheaper
After reading Car and Driver Aug 09 (nine affordable summer tires), the winner Dunlop Star specs sound like a great tire but are relatively noisy from what I have read elsewhere and this is shown in the comparo results.

So I decided to go with the runner up, Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110.
Out of 10 tires they are: joint quietest and also rated 1st in wet braking, 2nd in dry skid pad, 2nd in wet skid pad, 3rd wet autocross and Joint 4th in dry autocross. 4th doesn't sound that great, but they beat the expensive benchmark tire which was Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 and got an equal time to the Falken Azinis RT-615's so they are no slow tire. Plus, variations in driver performance may play a larger part in the autocross results than in the other tests.

I went with 225/45 18 to fit on stock wheels.
The tires are relatively inexpensive and offer great bang for the buck, just like the car itself.
I ordered from tires-easy.com 126 ish a tire plus 46ish for shipping, cheapest I could find online. $551.54 total shipped, and there is a $50 rebate good til Sept so in the end they are basically $125 each shipped.

Anyway, I will post here when I get them installed with my impressions.

I am sure some of you will disagree with my decision, but it is what it is, and thought I would post it up for all to see.
If you are hard core and want a no compromises street tire, then the Star Specs are a no brainer, but for daily driving, it is worth the compromise to me for a substantially quieter tire.
Personally I couldn't wait to wear these stockers out, 13000 miles, including 4 track days did it, they are at 2/32nds, I could run them a little longer but I want them off NOW.
Good riddance, hoping the Hankook Ventus V12 are better.

I am also glad I didn't buy earlier, I had been leaning toward the Nitto Invo as I had read numerous reports that they are quiet......... and they are, but they came in close to last in this comparo and I am sure I wouldn't have been happy with them.

Below are links to 2 articles/reviews/comparos that include this tire, I have attached a third comparo at the bottom of the post:

Tire Test: Nine Affordable Summer Tires Take On the Michelin PS2 - Comparison Tests - Auto Reviews - Car and Driver

COngrats on the tires man! I am going to get a pair of these as well, heard they are the biggest bang for the buck! I cant believe though how many places have them on back order, its crazy! I have a found guy that will be doing mine for $663.00 out the door tax and all and mount and balance the wheels. Not a bad price. I would install them myself but dont have the tools.

spdjnke 07-13-2010 07:50 PM

V12's is a great value, but the side walls are soft so it will drift around abit, coming from stockers the car will feel very unstable on turn in's, otherwise a great tire in the wet and dry, noise is better then stock by a bit.

FantasmoNegro 12-03-2010 12:07 PM

Ok here is another evaluation of these tires, the end of the road evaluation. I have wore my tires down to a level where they need replacing, and I have to say I am still satisfied with my purchase. They have given me 25K trouble free miles and until the past month they have been as quiet as they were day one. Now that they are wore slap out they are noisy as hell but their wet traction is still better than some tires I have had when they were new. I have been looking at more expensive brands of tires to replace them with, but my mind keeps bringing me back to these tires again. Even far more expensive tires will not give you the same compromise of performance, durability, and price. I will most likely purchase a new set in the next couple months and I will let you know what I get.
