Default Kumho Ecsta 4x Tire Review

So I just put on my Kumho Ecsta 4x Tires yesterday, 215/45/18, mounted on stock rims. These are all season tires and are replacing the ASX line. These will be replacing my summer Hankook Ventus v12's (225/45/18) mounted on Rota P1 wheels. I picked the 4x's up at a good price from tire rack for $550 shipped.

Drove about 15 miles with them so far and they offer a nice smooth ride. Dry handling seems pretty good, maybe a little looser than the Hankook's. Not only was the ride more smooth, but they are a hell of a lot quieter than the Hankook's.

I'll keep this thread updated and see how they do in wet conditions and also through a Pittsburgh winter.

I bought these to run full time now as I'll be selling my Rota's.

i've got about 1000 miles on these tires now and they handle great so far. real good in the rain and even better when it's dry. we'll have to see how things go when it starts snowing.

i think they are a great tire, they are quiet, handle well in wet and dry. still waiting for some snow to give them that final test.

i was checking these out.

however, i ended up going with another set of fierce instinct in 215 45 18. i am replacing a set of fierce's that i've worn through. they were great. almost as crisp as eagle gt in the dry, awesome in the rain, reasonable in snow.. i got mine for $600 installed from sams club.

just thought i'd throw that out there, another solid all season tire that is cheap and made in the usa.

Just got the same set on my stock rims. Broke em in and damn they handle pretty well. In the rain I'm going 80-100 on the highway no hydroplane or anything. Its not loud, grips well, and hell of a price.

today was the first day i got to use them in the snow and i'll say they didn't pretty good. i didn't get to test them to their full potential because my normal commute to work of 10min took 45min, ugh people are idiots.

but they seemed to grip pretty good in the snow, will post some more updates later.

@bova80 i tihnk i will be getting these shortly, luckily it hasnt really snowed in NY yet bc my rear tires are both almost done for, out of curiosity how come you went with 215/45/18 instead of the 225/45/18 you previously had? i've read that 225 fit with no problems on stock rims figured you would want more tire

215/45/18 are the stock size and they were cheaper then the 225/45/18. in snow a thinner tire is better, not that 10mm is really going to do much.

i hear ya, did you ever feel like the wider tires side walls were more unstable? or soft then the thinner tires you have now?

i don't think so. i don't think you are going to feel a difference in 10mm. i ran 225/45/18 because it's easy to find tires in that size. and my summer tires are 225/45/18 because they are on an 8" wheel unlike the stock 7".

Update* I've ran these so far for about 3K miles. They are pretty good solid tires, and a good price.

it's been a milder winter here but we've got some snow and I have had no issues with these tires and grip. I'd highly recommend them for anyone that wants a good all season.

I drove through mild snow, which held up pretty well, but when it was like 4-5 inches+, they are not snow tires, but the drive was not that bad. Just drive regularly, and don't gas hard and you will be fine. Overall, price + performance from these tires, I love em, for now

That's good to hear. I live in the desert at the moment, but hopefully will be moving somewhere with some actually weather besides heat. We do get the occasional snow/ice here, and last time we did my Toyo Proxes 4 didn't fair too well. There's nothing better to get your heart pumping than sliding into an intersection...

tire time for me.

went to the Mazda stealer again this weekend because i still can't find where the stank is coming from when I turn the A/C on (had the cabin filter replaced, freezy fresh, some leaves and pine needles dug outta there.....still got some funk) and they reminded me that my tires are getting pretty low so it's time to drop some more coin.

they offered to put on a set of Kumho Ecsta KU31, $611 + tax for tires/mounting/balancing/powder on my balls, nitrogen fill and 2 year road hazard.

they seem to run around $520+ tax/shipping for a set of 4 online, wondering if anyone has a secret website that is selling them cheaper.

also, wanted to ask about the tires themselves. the car is 100% daily driver, no racing of any kind and i live in Georgia so no snow.

*Update. Tires have about 18K miles on them. They are at least half tread left, and still perform well. Kumho states they have 40,000 miles on them and are warrantied until then. I will most likely be buying another set of these for future use.

I bought these tires from tire rack back in June... And they did perform well.. Only serious problem I Have is that I have put maybe 8-9000 miles on them and they are already bald. The back two are completely worn and the front are to the wear bar. I do get on my car a bit but no more than the next guy and have no track time on them at all. I wish I knew why I burnt threw them so quick, especially after reading everyone else's praise...... Gonna look into it more.

Update* I've been on these tires for over 20,000 miles, and they are still pretty good, still have half tread left. Probably good for another 15-20K miles. As long as you rotate every so often, and don't drive like a maniac they should last.

I just put these on my car after having the previous serious ecstas on my car. good feel, great grip, and quiet. I would definitely recommend these tires for anyone. great price for what you get.
