My tires after 2 track days at NHMS (~30+ laps)

This past weekend I spent down at NHMS with COMSCC. Great group of guys, almost every hardcore. VERY competitve club. I had a great instructor, and was signed off to solo at time trials on Sunday. Anyway, here is what my tires look like. They picked up a shitton of r-comp rubber since my inexperienced ass went off the line too many times. Tires were about 32psi cold, heated up to 42psi. I didn't think about messing with the pressure. Maybe I should have. The fronts wore on the inside treadline. I run -2.0 in the rear, stock camber in front since I have no good way to get more. Thoughts anyone?

lol @ picking up other peoples tires on yours cause your a n00b, how much did those run you? looks like your gona need to do some burn outs and then swap f/r and do it again haha

hahaha. they were $140/each/shipped from Vivid Racing in 255/40/17. Fucking awesome tire for the monies.

You definitely pushed the limits of those tires. My nt05s look the same after 40+ laps. I can tell you had alot of tire screaching haha. Your fronts look normal due to your camber settings, same goes for rears.

What I do is do 2-3 trackdays (but rotating the tires front to back), then flip the tires so the other half of the tread gets beaten.

Next time you go on track, just scrub the tires on your warm up lap to get rid of the old tread, or drive around town and listen to the chunks flying off.

haha yeahh they were screaming a lot. they did awesome though. I guess I should have switched the rears to the front for the second day.

my car did great, took everything I threw at it. I was running XP10's up front (stock rear) and RBF600. Didn't get any fade either day. What is your brake setup?

Unfortunately, with my MBC, it puts me in a really competitive class, mainly with a couple quick E36 M3's with R-comps, a modded to all-hell WRX with R-comps, and a 370Z with 325 R-comps in the rear. I'm no match lol. The rules are kind of stupid.

I have hawk hp+ and rbf also, but switching to DTC-60s and rcomps.

damn that shit is destroyed, is tracking your car really that expensive? shit 500 for tires every time you go out is insane.

jroc 07-05-2011 09:43 PM

lol tires arent even close to destroyed. Set of tires should last at least half a season, depending on tire choice.

Those looked like that after my first day.

Those tires aren't destroyed, he can definitively get a few more track days out of them. Especially if the next time out he runs the rears up front then like jroc said have the tires flipped.

How do you guys like the NT-05s?

EDIT: Ahhh too slow :(

interestingly enough, i got a very similar pattern when I ran on a track with a lot of people running R comps.
Im also at -2 in the rear... this is what my ad08 (180 treadwear) looked like after 3 sessions and a 1.5 hr highway drive.

these tires, from what ive read, are comparable to NT05s, except they arent as popular cause they are almost 90dlls more expensive per tire. I got a crazy deal on em.

Theres a whole thread on NT05s ;)

jroc - what warm PSI did you run in the nt05's?

jroc 07-06-2011 11:55 AM

Cold I start at 28-29, when theyre hot they get to 34-35 by the time I measure them in the pits.

Ziggo 07-06-2011 04:44 PM

Shouldn't be that worn IMO. My first few times out on the track I was really tough on my tires. I only got 2 autocross and 4 track days out of my first set of "track" starspecs. After getting better I am much easier on the tires, even while going faster. Scrubbing understeer destroys your front tires, and makes the camber wear even worse.
