been running about 2 weeks on Sumitomo HTR Z III tires (225/45-18 on stock wheels for now), and the reviews I read were correct, these things are sweet.

-Slightly quieter than stock.
-A tad spongier sidewall, I am on 225 on stock wheel...it might just be in my head - it seems to have gone away, probably was just due to the new tire.
-Dry grip is on par or better than the stockers
-Wet grip I don't know yet, but the tread pattern and reviews seem to think it's good.
-$125 a tire or so
-Multidirectional with 300 treadwear means you can rotate as normal and get good life out of them.

It has yet to rain here much to get a wet consensus out of them, but so far so good. They are broken in about 1000 miles already and doing well. I'm only ~3 hours north of you, so we probably get the same weather lol

Don't expect a MAX performance summer tire to give you a long life. If you need something that is a summer tire with good treadlife, get the FK-452 from Falken.

Hey have you have any rubbing issue with that size?

HTR ZIII in 235/40/18 gives excellent dry grip. Performance in standing water is ok, but not exceptional. I've seen some mild hydroplaning at 70+ in VERY heavy rain.

Try some Yokohamas

I've used various Yokohama tires on several of my cars and always been pleased with performance and tread life. Something like S.drive or AVS ES100 will give you treadwear of around 300 and both cost about $150 from Tire Rack. I'm running AVID W4S on my MS6 now but you probably don't want or need All-Season.

I'll try to get some pictures soon. They are only 225/45 compared to the stock 215/45 so there is no rubbing issues on stock wheels/suspension.

They're maybe slightly taller, but only because they are full tread right now, but using the miata.net calculator, they aren't going to mess up any speedo numbers and such.
