Default Nitto NT-05 followed by more goodies...

Just got my NT05's (245/40R18) in the mail today from Stephen @ Vivid Racing. I've had really good experiences with Vivid over the past two years...I love using the Bill Me Later button. Here are some pics from my EVO4G on the lanai. I'm still waiting on my wheels (PF01) from Tire Rack, I'll post them up in this thread when they get here. And I still need to get my hands on a set of Coilovers; I'm torn between BC's and Fortune Auto's. I just want bolt-on front camber for Solo.

Only paid $800 shipped 2day Fedex to Hawaii for the tires.

Thanks to several suspension/autoX threads concerning FSB issues after lowing the vehicle any whatsoever, I purchased a new pair of front Endlinks from a mid 2000's E46 for $25.00 with shipping. Hope they work out the way they have for the others.

I'll attach pics once I receive it in the mail.

Vendors: I'm still trying to get my hands on a new hotchkis FSB for $200 or less shipped.

Thanks Bruh, Here's to hoping your right, heh.

I placed an order with Chris Burd @ MAP today for some BC coilovers and a Hotchkis FSB. He gave me a better deal than any other vendor, thanks mate!

@Mr_Bill, thanks mate for answering all my questions recently.

Hopefully my JBR RSB and EGR Delete kit comes in tomorrow.

This AutoX shit eats at my BT funds....bah..there goes $3K.

Alright, more presents arrived from Santa while I was busy saving lives and protecting the nation....yeah, not so much....armory inspection all this week, Bah!

Anyways...I'm attaching some pics of my Enkei Racing PF01 18x8.5 +48. Atleast I think the offset is +48. I purchased them from tirerack.com as (4) front wheels for a 2008 mazda RX-8 and it said they were +45, but I do not believe Enkei makes an 18x8.5 +45.

Enjoy checking out my cell phone pics.

Rims are really pricy. I'm thinking to get a Set my self. But $$$$$$$$ outch.

My goal is to save money on the Long term, by spending more now for a new set of tires just for autocross and track days. Worst case will use the nittos only for the track bcs those baby are really pricy.

Now Tell me mon grand, for how much you got the wheels for? They Look very similar to the OZ ultralegera

Wheels were expensive shipped to Hawaii. Prices are on tirerack.com, no secrets.

NT05s are the bomb! Dry grip is soooo good. They actually do very well in the rain even though the tread pattern might fool ya. Great setup man enjoy!

On what planet??

~$150 a tire (for 235/40s, which is the size tire I run) is a STEAL for how well those things perform.

I think you'd actually have a really hard time finding another tire in that category that is a better value. Trust me, I've been trying.

^This x100. Dry grip has been compared to R Compounds. I'm fully bolted tuned blah blah and i grab instant traction even at the start of 2nd and 1st even hooks pretty well! I'm running 245/40/18 as sig says got 4 tires shipped FREE from DiscountTireDirect for $632!!!

Above poster im in agreeance with these tires are truly better then any in the same class of money and are 200 LESS then the Star Spec or Kuhmo Excsta XS and I don't see the price discrepencies as to why they are actually so much less. Im surprised this tire isn't run more its an amazing tire man (per price) it's not run on enough MS3's from what I've seen and I'm not sure why

Not sure how you could compare them to rcomps...then again i have faster lap times with cars with more power than me, rcomps and are "supposed to handle better".

Guess its a driver thing.

I think the tread pattern might be off-putting to some (people look at it and think they must absolutely suck in the rain, which as you know couldn't be further from truth), plus they come with only 7.2/32" tread depth when new compared to most others with around 9/32"-11/32" tread depth.

What they don't realize is this: I found that they actually seemed to wear at about the same rate overall that every other Extreme Performance category tire has on my car - Put plainly, I got about the same number of events/miles on my NT-05s as I got out of my OEM tires, my Kumho XSs, and my closeout special Hankook RS-2s. In other words, the compound itself seemed to wear at a slower rate (at least in my experience), making the initial tread depth discrepancy irrellevant.

Maybe you can hook me up with your vivid friend in about 9-12 months when I buy another set from them.

UPDATE: Installed my James Barone Racing Rear sway bar last night. Nothing but good stuff to say. Install was easy. fit/finish A++... Only complaint for James is could ya put the two JBR stickers where they are visible on either side of the skid plate in the center? Can't rep JBR to all the mongoose and pidgeons I try to hit. Everyone else that has the JBR RSB know what I mean?

Lovin' it.

Pretty pics for whomever is actually reading this shit.

UPDATE: Received my mid 2000's BMW E46 front endlinks acouple days ago.

@driver311 mind taking a look at these? It's a shitty cell phone pic, but are the endlinks you're using 12 inches long? anyone? Are these the ones that are needed if you lower your car?

I'm waiting on my Hotchkis FSB from MAPerformance still.

All depends what you're lowering it with. There is no definitive answer.

Roger.....? The only way I would I would lower my car is with struts/springs. definitely. Anyways, I saw several other members that have successfully used mid 2000's bmw E46 endlinks to combat the problems after only lowering the car 1 inch. My goal is to confirm I purchased the right product, and that the Ebay seller didn't send me some random endlinks. So, anyone that has used this same product in real life please chime in.

Many thanks,

~AJ

UPDATE: Received my BC Racing Coilovers from @maperformance alas I wasn't one of the few souls to receive a free t-shirt in the giveaway.

My main goal behind this purchase was because I wanted more camber up front and I wanted anything that was better than the OEM setup. At first I was looking at getting Koni's or Bilsteins, but there wasn't a spring set in production that fit what I wanted. For the past several weeks I have been eyeballing yellowspeed's, BC Racing, and Fortune Auto. Fortune Auto's were backed up over a month whereas the BC's were in stock that day.

I hope to learn more about fine tuning suspension components over the next year here in Maui on my track days and if/when I get the "driver mod" I will then weigh in if I need to upgrade to a custom setup. It was hard enough swinging cash for Coilovers after spending so much dough on wheels, tires, RSB, and an FSB. Needless to say my BT funds are shot for the rest of the year.

Attached are some cell phone pics from last night.

ah.
whether they fit properly is totally dependant on strut ear, to sway bar distance.
whether they are bimmer links or not, i cannot comment.

different manufactures put the ear (endlink mount on strut) in different positions for whatever reason. i think the bc have actually accommodated for the drop, and you may get away with the stock endlinks. don't quote me on it though.
it's more of an issue with lowering springs and shocks with strut ears close to stock location.

^AH! Good to know mate, Whenever I do the install I'll try the OEM endlinks first. If they work I'll just slap these in the For Sale section.

have a good look at the angle the sway bar is at static ride height with the stock suspension first, then use whatever works to get that same angle when you're lowered, without hitting the control arm with the sway bay.

So I used my stock wheels and tires for the last time on my AutoX event this past Sunday. 2 tires are pretty much toast while the other 2 could endure some more abuse down the road.

I just got back from 1320 Performance, where they mounted and balanced my new setup. The rear end ride height looks perfect as is but the front end looks a little bit goofy. This will be fixed after I install my BC Coilovers (JBR rear camber kit and new front endlinks at the same time).

I'm also still awaiting on my Hotchkis FSB from @maperformance

Here are some cell pics right as the evening showers hit.

Enjoy the avocados.

^ man, i was getting all kinds of jealous of your amazing wheels/tires.. fuck that! i'm jealous of your beautiful fruit trees. i'd kill to be able to pick tree ripened mangoes fresh and eat them.

well, i'd kill a couple of thousand mangoes anyway.
