Obviously not an MS3, but Speed3eak is right, I don't think this thread is only about our cars, good to spice it up a bit with other makes. So, without further adieu: this SOB is fucking baaaaaaaaaaad. Anyone who follows or participates in the "stance movement" will most likely appreciate this car and the work that has gone into it. I doubt an MS3 could seriously pull this look off, but damn it looks right at home on this mk5 R32

More like it looks rice as fuck. I can appreciate an aggressive stance, but this is fucking stupid.

If you're going to fuck up your car by adding all sorts of stupid camber, you might as well buy a regular ass golf or mazda 3. You're killing your performance by doing that shit.

It's illogical and stupid.

My MS3 is far from conservative. My MS3 is more car than yours ever will be.

I just hate seeing perfectly good cars go to waste. Nothing more.

No one is going to sneak into your garage and drop your car with better looking rims, you have nothing to be scared of. Yeah you might beat me in a race, that's ok, that's not my main concern. I'm not worried about it, I don't race, I drive my car fast and have a lot of fun doing it. I enjoy my car just as much as you enjoy yours, that's all there is to it. To each their own.

It seems like the MS3 community is so irrationally scared of change and this "aggressive" look. People are going to do it. Some people hate it, some respect it, some live for it. Some live for highway racing and hitting 30psi and 10sec. Some do all of these things, all deserve respect. You own an MS3, therefore I already consider your car cool and respectable haha, stock or fully bolted, it doesn't matter. I like everything about the MZR platform. I have mods and will hopefully soon be stage 2, so my car isn't just a pretty face (sarcasm).

Everyone is different, I don't know how many times people have to explain that fact - "it's MY car, MY rules". The argument should end there. All I ask is that you guys who think this stuff is dumb, just be open-minded and not so critical. Sometimes I think you guys just want something to hate, bOoStInG your egos to 30psi before your cars.

No one is scared of change. I just think that it's dumb and serves no purpose. I would say the same thing about vinyl decals. I would say the same thing about stupid ass wings. I would say the same thing about fake hood vents.

I hate things that serve no purpose on the car and actually make the car run worse than it did before.

I could make my TV so that it only displayed the red and green colors, but no one would consider that cool because it doesn't serve any purpose. It also makes the TV worse than it was before at the thing it was supposed to be doing originally.

That's my reason for hating the "agressive stance". It's not because it's different. It's not because it's a change from the norm. It's because it makes your car worse at being a car.

what makes you think its worse at being a car Turbonetics Nissan 350Z | Stance:Nation - Form > Function

just because you have some extra risks doesnt mean you still cant have some function IF you want too.

its not a waste of a car, its making atleast the driver happy and if its stance oriented, usually that whole community.

HXC LOL 01-28-2011 02:04 AM

Any modification to any car could be viewed as pointless, useless, detrimental to the cars overall function to do what it was built to do, etc.

Some people want to break power thresholds, some people want to get as low as possible.

Some people want to have a balance of both stance and power (function&form)
And some people wouldn't think of tainting a perfect piece of machinery with any modification whatsoever.

It's all about YOUR personal preference and vision for what YOU want out of YOUR car.

That being said, here are some great looking Speed3's:

I can sort of agree on the art piece. The one minor difference is that art is created from scratch (real art, anyway) for the sole purpose of being an expression. A car starts off with a specific purpose, which is driving. I can understand that your want to make your car unique, and I have no problems with an aggressive stance until it starts degrading the performance of the car.

I have a pretty aggressive stance on my car, but it's 100% for performance.

I appreciate the compliment, and I do like the way some of these speeds look. I like the way that yours looks, to be honest. From what I can see, you don't have ridiculous amounts of camber so you can fit huge wheels and tires under the fender.

What Mizzle said. I guarantee you that if that 350z went up against an identically modded 350z with a proper wheel and tire setup, it would get slaughtered in handling and in a straight line.

If you wanna argue that it's an expression of individuality, that's a more valid argument. You'll never sell me or anyone who knows anything about cars the BS that you can have awesome performance with negative camber, wheels that are too big, and tires that are stretched. It's physics. You can't fuck with the laws of physics.

Thanks, I really appreciate it.
And you're right, you can't phuck with physics. My car isn't exactly suited to be tossed around haha. I'd like to get another car for that though, like a Miata(NB!!!), something RWD and tossable.
My friend has a caged, fully bolted, Hennessey tuned NB Miata. He's friends with John Hennessey, they helped him build it at their shop. I'll see if I can get some pictures.
Anyways, after driving that shit, spinning tires going 80, I have to own one of those before I die.
A bit off topic, but fuuuuuuuuuuuu.

Visors are sick. The only ones I've liked on an MS3 so far

Speed3eak 01-28-2011 07:21 PM

Yeah, those photos I posted were a joke because I personally don't like the hellaflush stretched rim + insane camber look.

I've heard it argued (on top gear actually) that a car can never be art, because art cannot have a purpose other than itself.

I don't like the look but I also have the same sense of visual aesthetics as stevie wonder.

That being said, I think some of the most beautiful cars are also some of the most functional. I originally wanted to say this quote was from frank lloyd wright, but after doing a quick search what he said was different, so I'll just say I heard this somewhere:

"Form should not only follow function; it should enhance it"

But I'll stop posting in this thread, it's not about form > function or function > form, it's about aggressive offset rims and I apologize for derailing it just because I'm personally not a fan.

That white MS3 with the chrome wheels is ugly.
Also, unless it's bagged, a dumped MS3 is stupid regardless of it's looks simply because of the complete lack of suspension travel as-is, let alone ride quality/performance losses from super lo-pro tires.

Anyways, the only reasons "stance," took off is because a bunch of cheap kids wanted to stick shit on their cars that didn't belong without actually modifying anything. Then it's like "Well my rims are xxx.x wide, so what'chu know about that?"

That said, here's what I consider sexy in spite of a lack of function:

HXC LOL 01-30-2011 01:43 AM

I definitely can agree with you, Mizzle. There aren't really any extensive builds anymore, it's just wheels and suspension. Plus, the occasional fender roll. But that doesn't represent everybody.

In the defense of the "stance" crowd, there are some people that put a fair amount of work into being as low as possible without bags. Obviously that compromises performance, but getting a frame notch so you can get lower and not smack axle is pretty extensive if you ask me. Dialing in proper settings for minimal rubbing and getting the right amount of camber to get the rear as low as possible is a fair amount of work too. All things considered, there are a lot of factors in dumping your car on coilovers (or air for that matter. air just makes it a bit easier after it's installed)

Sorry for the rant, this is just the kind of stuff I'm used to seeing on VW forums and I tend to get a good view of the work put into the "slammed" cars whether they're on air or coilovers.

BTW I fucking love that S2K. And the E36 above it.

Mizzle 01-30-2011 09:15 AM

It would take a lot of work to make a Yugo a high performance, reliable vehicle. Doesn't mean you should or that it's impressive if you do...

If someone put work into making a Yugo a high performance, reliable car, I'd tell them it was a pointless endeavor since they could've bought a better car in the first place.

At the same time, I would appreciate the amount of work they put into it in order to make it into a respectable vehicle.

Regardless, making a car stupid low on wheels that don't fit is less pointless (wait, hear me out) since there isn't a car that you can buy that comes like that from factory. On the other hand, there are lots of alternatives to buying a Yugo.

Roszko 01-30-2011 02:17 PM

not sure about the tires though maybe 225/235? theres minimal stretch if any so thats my guess

Fuck. 9.5 +13. Crazy. Love it. He dialed it in perfectly. Glad I didn't go to that show, weather killed it

Looking at 17x7.5 et42 wheels...I will be running 225/45 tires. Will I need to roll my fenders with stock suspension?

Um... no. That's smaller than stock. I mean, unless those wheels have some really crazy offset or something...

goob_os101 02-03-2011 07:51 AM

They have an offset of 42

Shouldn't have a problem in the world. You can run those all day long. Hell, you could lower your car a bunch, and they'd probably still be fine

haha dude, you will be safe. Like jwilkins said, you couldn't rub if you tried

why the 17s?

goob_os101 02-03-2011 09:10 AM

I like the look and the tires are $30/ea cheaper than 18's and the wheels I want only come in a 17s.

I thought they would be close to rubbing due to the 225s and the 42 offset when I go with springs. I know they will be pretty flush. I have FD wheels (16x8 et50) on now.

I'm runnning 255/55s on a 16x8 rim in the front, and I only rub when I crank the steering wheel all the way. You should be 100% ok.

Edit: Here's how they sit...

Do 17x8, et38 require fender rolling with a 225/50 or 235/45?

I'm gonna say probably not. I'd watch your rear tires if you go with the 235s though.

I was running 18x8.5 245/45s in the back and I nearly destroyed my tires. I think you'll be fine though.

Definitely fine in the front.

Edit: Stock ride height?

You need to roll, especially when you have passengers... it's gonna rub for sure.

Fronts will be fine. I can 100% guarantee you that. Rears... They might rub, but I don't think they will

How in the hell does he get the rear so low on KW v2's?

MazdaASM 02-13-2011 05:39 PM

when aggresive offset can be used without -10 degrees of camber it looks sooo good...

case and point the red s2k(i might be a bit partial to the s2k's though)

Fronts can only be pulled anyways.

They will rub, only when you corner hard and have passengers going over bumps on freeway. Even rubbed with 225/45. 225/50 & 235/45 are both taller.

Hrmmm... Were you only rubbing in the back?

I've got 18x8.5 245/45s +38 offset in the front, and I don't rub at all

tigermack 02-14-2011 05:17 PM

In the back only.

No rubbing in front, full lock would touch, though.

Cameron Letcher 02-16-2011 11:07 PM

What's up ya'all. I'm trying to do some homework before buying some new shoes for my 06 speed 6. Does anyone know if 19x9 +35 offset wheels will fit on my ride? Any help or input would be awesome. Tires 245/35.

225/40 front 215/45 in the rear. I didn't do this on purpose, I just happened to have some tires in my garage that give me just enough clearance

It handles worse, and your tires will wear hella unevenly and quicker
