For the guys with 8.5 and 9.5 wide 18s how much room is there inside the arch?

Say running about et40? I dont want to poke much just want to sit flush. Am tempted by the 9.5" wide rims as they look concave and badass. But thinking 8.5 will be easier for me to pull off.

Pretty sure 9.5 +40 won't fit because the inside of the rim would hit the strut. Don't quote me on that, but from what I understand, it'd hit...

But idk how much room is inside the arch, there's room enough to drive, we can all roll haha. It's hard to gauge. Get the appropriate suspension/links/arms/plates/tire sizes and you can pretty much fit anything in there. I'm sure the info you're looking for is somewhere on this forum, people have asked similar questions a few times.

for 9.5 (with bc coilovers) i have to run at most 35et because the front will rub the shock housing if more. I have 38 and run a 3mm spacer up front. not sure about clearance in the rear. what do you mean inside the arch? you mean the tire rubbing on the top of the wheel well? i know the fronts people have to hammer down a metal piece under the plastic fender. i like the look of the exoX wheels spaced out to sit flush. 8.5 wide i believe.

goob_os101 10-28-2011 01:36 PM

Will 17x8.25 et35 on 235/45/17s fit with stock suspension/soon to be eibach pro kit and SenSen shocks?

I have been doing a lot of measurements to see if I can stuff a 8.5" wheel under there. The issue is that the strut locking ring on most mainstream coilovers (including mine) interferes with inside sidewall clearance. The lower you go, the closer the sidewall/lip is to the locking ring. I am dropped an inch and will barely clear on a 235/40/18 tire @ +45. And I'll have to massage the rear fender pretty good too.

Personally I'd stay away from a 9.5" width unless you're OK with running a narrow tire outside the manufacturer's recommendations (refer to post #705).

EDIT: Obviously I'm more of a practical guy but can appreciate many of the setups in here. Thanks for the thread.

........but it doesn't look good.

Huge-ass lipped wheels on a slammed G35 looks good. A ms3 dropped so low the wheels have to be negative cambered 25* doesn't look good, it looks ridiculous. Not ostentatious like chrome HRE wheels on a bimmer, but like tristars on a 92 grand am.

never said I was baller. I bought used wheels. I know I'm not baller. having a g35 with "huge" lips will require negative camber to fit as well. the car is front wheel drive, so technically I am more functional that a rwd g35 or 350z with as much camber as I have in the rear. and you're point is that it doesn't look good? ok I respect you don't like it, but you don't know fucking anything and all you have to say it it doesnt look good to you, I really don't give a fuck what looks good to you.

The Mazda community is full of a bunch of boring highway racers who brag about taking moderately fast cars like cobalts and GT's. This isn't a super car or a race car; it's a cheap, fun hatchback with a wide range of abilities, all of which are of the owner's decision. You don't need a bimmer or a G35 to be able to lower your car, saying that just magnifies your naivety. Did I forget to read the rule book? Give me a fucking break.

You guys care about performance? Look at the cars on this thread. Most of them are modified, some more than others, but most of them are. We care about performance too, but OH NO! God forbid we have a sense of style different from you guys. Thank god we do, because whatever sets me farther apart from your guys' egotistical hating and mindless bashing is perfectly ok with me.

O rly? I used to own a 350z and have several friends with them and g35s, and those with sick rims with lips never had to do what you guys do. Not by a long shot. Maybe a degree or two, but not 25. And they're hella more functional because their tires don't wear to the belts in 3000 miles.

your dumb as nuts if you took that 25* seriously, while this is still crazy camber i think the most on a speed has been like 10*

pics or it didnt happen.... lets see these cars and i wanna hear some sizes por favor. Before i get crucified by these nazis yes i understand you can have a wider wheel on gs and zs without camber because they have more room obviously its common sense guys lol...

also anyone who isnt a fan of the low and wide or down and out style just shut up and stick to your own threads already, you dont see us running into every thread someone isnt low or wide and talking bullshit. once again stop being so beat and immature.

Alpha 12-02-2011 03:04 PM

Not gonna lie, I'm all for flush mounted wheels, but this ridiculous negative camber used to "TRY" to fit these terribly offset wheels is just ignorantly retarded.

Bumped out wheels with enough negative camber to claim you broke an axle is beyond fail IMHO.

The only thing worse was that guy with the white 3 and friggin Mexiflares. HO LEE SHIT... I had to close my eyes.

RhoadBlock 12-02-2011 03:50 PM

^ You shut your mouth. Rocky's 3 looks gangster! lol

I don't understand all the hate. Who gives a shit. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion but you don't have to be so damn obstinate about it. That goes to the HF guys too. The funny thing is most HF guys love to see functional guys do their shit to their cars. They love seeing huge power makers. I do at least. But function/performance bastards come in & shit on HF guys all the damn time. More power to the HF guys. I think it looks dope as hell. And they'll more than likely spend a shit ton less than gear heads do on go fast parts. My performance parts have far exceeded what I spent on stance & exterior combined. There's no purpose in having 300+ whp on the street either because you're not allowed to use it. Use it all in front of a cop & see what happens. But YOU do it because YOU think it's fun & YOU enjoy it. Same for the HF guys. Hell that's why I did it. I woulda been at 400+whp had I tuned when my motor blew & I was draggin nuts, pokin, stretchin & cambering it up while doing it. Who gives a damn.

And if you're one of these "it's dangerous/you're putting others on the road at risk" faggots you can shut the fuck up. Until you start bitching this adamantly about smokers I will not accept that as a valid point. Second hand smoke has killed/injured more innocent ppl than the HF phase ever has & ever will.

I don't hate on power/function guys. I understand their points. They do it cause they like it. I don't hate HF guys. I understand their points. They do it cause they like it. Who gives a shit either way? I do hate all the bitching, flaming & arguing in every single wheel/suspension/tire/fitment thread.

Sorry dude, you're completely wrong. My camber is MAYBE -2 in the rear, where the fuck is this 25 number coming from? And my last set of tires lasted 10 times that long -- 30,000. So talk some relevant shit or stop plaguing this thread with your assumptions we don't care about in the first place.

I know on my wife's regular 3, -2 is within factory specs. It's the maximum allowed but it is permitted. That's why my wife's car has factory. I was going to buy arms to dial out some camber but it's cheaper just to rotate/flip. I'd be fine with running -2 on my ms3.

What's so bad about a nicely stanced/slammed sedan with power to back it up?

I think the drop on my speed6 is perfect. Ofc that's my opinion, but it's got the 50/50 mix of aggressive look w/subtle mods that do not detract from the elegance of the car.

What's the beef with _slammed sedan regime_ ?

Your first question is easy to answer. Go to the OP and see the date this thread was initiated.

Now to your second question: We are sensitive people with feelings and emotions sharing our opinions of wheels with aggressive offsets (as the title of this thread specifies I might add) But we also like fornicating with the mothers of insubordinate children such as yourself who have big balls when it comes to trashing people over the internet but will cry in shame when you see your mother massaging our penises with her tonsils.

Not going to lie. Really digging Roszko's setup.

I'm now considering 18x8.5 Grids knowing Rota supplies significant volume to Toyota and others. They seem to be reasonably light and the offset is just enough to clear the KW's on 235's. I'm getting under the car this weekend and don't think the +50 offset on RX8's will clear the strut perch @ initial drop.

I know my MS setup isn't exactly the same as your KW setup, but if your perches/springs aren't any wider than mine you should be OK.

You know, all the bashing only results in people being intimidated to post pics of their wheels and lowering preferences. This thread has been going for a long time and it's a great way to see all the wheel options out there and how they look mounted on the MS's. . I come here to do just that and it's been an excellent source of information. Read through some of the previous threads. Not everyone is slammed. But if they want to be who gives a fuck.

RhoadBlock 12-03-2011 09:58 PM

Aggressive doesn't have to be all HellaFlush either. Last I remember Jroc was rolling on 255/40s 17x9s on his MS6. IMO that's aggressive & qualifies in this thread too. And he's purely function. There's room for everyone here, just quit the damn flaming each other.

I've never ever seen any dispute get shittier or more heated the Form vs. Function one lately. Not even damn MS vs. Honda! Flaming/hate on HF is worse than the flaming/hate on the fags that put stick on vents & CF scoops, gaudy body kits, park bench wings & spinner hub caps. At least HF guys are fucking presentable. I really don't understand why it's so enraging to ppl.

Pulling the trigger on these tomorrow, biggest concern is if it clears stock strut and if the tires will fit, i know they will be stretched a bit, i just dont know how much or if too much?

Any input please.

I think the offset is too high you might be hitting the suspension like that especially on 8.5 I have 17x8 with the same offset and I have to run 5mm spacers...

damn B, herra frush!

jonspeed3 12-08-2011 03:34 PM

not tryin to be herra frush, just to good of a deal on these wheels to pass on and hoping they fit on stock suspension

Wastegate13 12-08-2011 06:13 PM

You're going to be very close to the rear strut and may not clear the front without spacers. You won't need much though, 3-5mm maybe.

needs a front lip, you'd probably break it though.

I think that every day haha. I'd break it for sure, but I would like one. A subtle one like a home depot lip haha, sad I know, but I like it

Did they come with the polished bit behind the spokes or is that something you did?

A very long time ago I had planned on getting a set of black ultraleggara's for my car. I like.

I don't think my car is that low. :(

Think it would be crazy to change my 10's to 9.5's so I can go down to a 215/35?

hes like in between a prokit and sport line drop. it really isn't that low. and i've seen some of the lowest cars come from washington. but you're right i havent been to every state and i know exactly how speed bumps feel and you wont feel shit from speed bumps with that ride height. i think i should know, i've been on sport lines and im now less than an inch off the ground in hawaii. roads here fucking suck. you will give me shit for this but i've cracked my oil pan twice, not proud of it but if you are too pussy to lower your car less than 2 inches you are a faggot

No offense taken, I know I could go lower but I'm happy with it this way. Not trying to win any awards, I just love the way my car looks and drives and that's good enough for me!

When I saw your car on Mazda Fitment, I mayyyy have had it as my phone's background for a while... just maybe...

Roszko 12-11-2011 09:13 PM

Some aggressive rides from this weekend's MazdaMovement Meet 'n Greet at Harris Hill Raceway!

Clean black MS3 on some Works parked next to me. Really liked the color scheme and the halo's really set it off. Not usually a fan of halo's, but I really like it on this car for some reason... I have track pics of this car too if you're a member, let me know! And I also think I've seen you in and around San Marcos... ?

More to come

If I had a Miata, this is exactly what it would look like. To the T. Dropped on BC's, white TE-37's, boosted and sexy. He also had a drift setup he switched over to when he hit the track... So sick.

Haha, close! Mark's on K Sports with a 5mm spacer. Wheel specs are correct. You'd think more people would notice the trend going on here... Thanks for actually reading and using some simple deductive reasoning skills -- what a novel idea! haha

I should probably post some pics of my car one day.

18x10 +25 225/40 and enough rear camber to make MSF have a collective heart attack.
