Offset help with 17x8s Hey guys, I'm finally getting around to rims. I'm going 17x8 for weight savings. I want to run a 245 width. Not sure what height tire I would need (50?) Could I do this without rolling the fenders? Or should I just go 17x7.5 and run a 235? Also, what would the offset be for both of these setups? And finally, anyone doing this with rpf1s? |

For Autox I run a Rota 17x8-48 offset 245/40/17 Hoosier A6 with no Issues.... Little roll with heat and rubber mallet. |
245/45/17 is the perfect size, very close to the OEM diameter. Most people with that size will have to roll the rear fenders and some 245 tires are wider than others. You'll be fine with an offset between +53 and +48 with a fender roll. If you absolutely don't want to roll the fenders, keep the offset as high as you can and run a 235/45/17. |
Would 18x9.0 fit on a mazdaspeed3? I don't want to roll my fenders. What offset can I run without issues? |
Check out the my crazy offset thread. There's like one guy who's trying that. I don't remember who though... |
245/45-17 is actually within spec to fit on 17x7.5. The result is a bit bubbly, but it's within manufacturer's rim width range (7.5-9 for 45 profile). I run this tire size on Racing Hart CP-035's with a 48 offset. |
Sorry that I'm threadjacking, but I didn't want to start a new thread for this. Will a +35 offset on a 18x8.0 rim fit my mazdaspeed3? I tried using the calculater but don't understand it. |
Yes, a 35 offset will fit great with a small amount of fender rolling in the rear, depending on what tires you want to run and what suspension setup you have. Here's the best example of 18x8 +35. scroll down and theres tons of pictures stripes or no stripes - Mazda Forums a lil weekend preview - Mazda Forums |
Also not to high jack the thread but might as well keep this going instead of starting a new one since I kind of understand off-set but don't. I'm looking at 17x8.5 with 245/45 tires at a 35mm offset on the stock suspension. I will plan on rolling my fenders in the future but would I be fine with running them with teh stock suspension for now or would I definately need to get the fenders rolled before hand? Also, the lower the offset means the center of the rim will stick out toward the fender vs. a higher offset which sinks in and that is what gives a deeper lip correct? |
i have enkei rpf1, 17x9, +45mm offset, and 235/45-17 tires. the rears need to be rolled though |

Anything 8" wide pretty much need to get rolled. |
I am running 18x8 +40 with the stock rubber (stock ride height) and it does not need to be rolled for this. You might be able to get away with a 225 tire as well, but a 235 will need to be rolled. Any 9" wheel will need a roll in the rear. It doesn't matter what your offset is. Quote:

Thanks that helps a lot! I still wish I could find that website that had the pictures and explained it as well. Was a great site for noobs like myself that don't know much about offset. |
