ordered 18x9 dpts

just orders the 18x9 dpts 42 offset i believe with 245/40s. right now suspension is stock im gonna test fit them and see what i need from there. i believe coilovers a roll and maybe spacers up front. looking at madvillians set up and advise im hoping the higher offset will make them a much less pain in the ass than his setup. i am a wheel n00b so this is an experience but i got matte grey and the cars true red so i think it'll look dope and im looking forward to it. hoping for the best ill keep updated when they come in. all the help im sure ill get is much appreciated in advance. i know i can always count on good ol msf

jhershorin 08-01-2009 10:38 AM

spacers make the offset lower. if you add spacers you are pushing the wheels out which will cause more issues with rubbing.

maybe i read your plans wrong. just giving some info to help.

phillyb 08-01-2009 01:21 PM

i approve

martyxattack 08-01-2009 09:53 PM

jhershorin from what ive gathered in the front i might be to close to the strut so thats why i said spacers up front. like i said im a n00b and this wheel be an experience that im looking forward to. ill take pics soon as they come in and i get a test fit going ill show the clearances. in the meantime heres pics of the wheel on a subaru

dirtyspeed3 08-03-2009 08:34 AM

Oh I think those look good! However they look like a motherfucker to clean haha :(

jhershorin 08-03-2009 08:42 AM

Yes - if you are close to the strut you will have an issue so then the spacer would work. HOWEVER - be careful on the size spacer you want to put in. You are going to be pushing those way out with the width as it is and running a 5mm spacer alone would make that a 18x9 et37 which will be very far out. I would recommend going with a smaller width wheel since you wont be able to run a meaty tire without causing issues on the fender. Even an 18x8.5 is a huge difference for your fenders and you can still run a nice chunky tire.

madvillain 08-03-2009 07:20 PM

cant wait to see this. im curious to see if you will rub in the front, my 18x9 +30's were pretty close.

2nr 08-03-2009 07:23 PM

yes they aren't fun to clean

madvillain 08-05-2009 01:39 AM

yeah man pm me, id be happy to answer any questions. spent a lot of time with those rotas

Haltech 08-05-2009 02:56 AM

Kinda looks like a cross between a Rota and Tenzo.

I would of got Tenzo's on my car if they would make them with manly width. Curious to see how the DPs fit on your car. Keep us posted.

Wheeldude fitted mazdas247 user tigermack I believe it was, with 17x9 et42. They will look like this, except with 18's, taller profile (wheeldude/tigermack used shorter diameter than stock tires) and not lowered.

martyxattack 08-05-2009 08:14 AM

For everyone with rolled fenders did you rent one locally or online or just buy one. What's your experience. Couldn't find anything near me on cl. I did buy a cheap tire but the reviews I found were good however wheel dude called me to let me know it tends to be a bit taller than most but I told them I knew this would require some work anyway. Hopefully this won't be a big problem. The tire I got was the general uhp. Thanks for your help again guys. I'm expecting to get them in early next week since my order didn't get through til monday evening.

m4tic 08-06-2009 09:24 PM

general uhp's are a decent tire for the price.... speaking of which the price has jumped up since i bought a set a couple years ago...

my wheels are a bitch to clean... ugh 18x8 +35

martyxattack 08-06-2009 09:32 PM

thanks morris. tirerack had good things to say but then wheel dude called and i got a little worried about my decision and then i saw a couple sketchy comments on a bmw forum but we'll just see. i could have waited a little longer and bought a nicer tire but im impatient and just had to order then. if there a problem ill just sell and move on to something else. no biggy. still would like to here about anyones fender rolling experiences please.

madvillain 08-07-2009 11:30 AM

the guys at wheeldude are pretty cool, i kind of had to keep on them but they had my tires mounted and balanced on the wheels and shipped out in about 12 hours of placing my order. and with my setup came a lot of fender rolling, what do you need to know?

SonnyBonahoe 08-07-2009 12:10 PM

honestly, not loving the rims. The shape (of the spokes) doesnt seem to flow very well with the car.

But to each their own and I hope your happy with them!

ispypsi 08-07-2009 06:01 PM

offset calculator says 15mm less space from wheel to strut housing and 35mm more sticking out, so they'll stick out about another inch and a half.

should look good. i'll have to check it out, not super easy to clean but if they're in that size with a flat black, i'm sold.

i was just wondering how most people are going about getting a fender roller. did you buy or rent or go to a shop or what. i did a search on cl but couldnt find anything. i saw the site online where its 50 bucks to rent and a 250 deposit. where is everyone getting fender rollers.also how was the actual rolling. is it hard to get the hang of? tracking says they should be here wednesday

Nliiitend1 08-08-2009 09:55 AM

I bought mine on craigslist years ago for like $150 shipped if I recall correctly...You just have to keep looking. They still pop up there from time to time. If you want to buy one though, used is definitely the way to go.

madvillain 08-08-2009 10:13 AM

i bought one from these guys, along with a heat gun:

Eastwood Company: Auto Tools, Body Repair, Classic Car Restoration, Paint Guns, Powder Coating, Soda Blasters, Fender Rollers

they have the best deal around, and their fender roller is awesome. i sold the whole kit to haltech to rent out to the community, im not sure if he still has it or not. if you buy one from eastwood, you'll be able to re-sell it without a doubt, whether its on the forums or to a local shop.

Clover 08-08-2009 11:38 AM

I think those wheels are going to be sick looking on your car. Go for it, and you will have something to be proud of.

martyxattack 08-08-2009 12:42 PM

thanks man i appreciate it and thanks for everyone elses input.i dont need a heatgun we have lots of those at work so i guess ill search around online for a good deal on the fender roller. what would i pay if i wanted to pay a shop to do it. any idea. i just know im prob gonna get the wheels and not want to wait around for a fender roller to come in the mail and the appearance of my car is not something i wanna fuck up. i cant handle all the bolt on shit but i really dont wanna fuck up the body.

madvillain 08-08-2009 08:51 PM

i dont know, it depends on who you take it to, and what tools they have/you give them to work with. i went to one of the most trusted body shops in the state, they did a great job and were really careful, they charged me $30 and i threw in some extra for lunch for them. we all know that mazdas paint isn't the best, it chips really easy.

martyxattack 08-09-2009 08:15 AM

wow thats cheap. we'll see when they get hear i suppose. darksun is swearing to me ill be safe at stock rid height but i want to roll fenders anyway cause bc's will be on the way next. what brand sways would you suggest also the hotchkis or cobbles

madvillain 08-09-2009 11:26 AM

i say cobb, because you have to buy both if you get the hotchkins, and in my opinion adding a stiffer front sway will hurt more than it will help on a pair of coilovers. the rear sway makes a huuuge difference. you will still have to roll those rear fenders, no matter what height. you will also need a dremel to grind down the punch weld where the bumper is bolted to the rear quarter panels.

my project ms3 a.k.a. "porkchop" is complete [piczzz] - Mazda Forums

page one has before fender rolling pictures (they rubbed bad) then on page two was after extreme fender rolling pictures.

martyxattack 08-09-2009 02:37 PM

thanks for all your help friend. cant wait to finally get these things. feels like its been forever. 3 more days

madvillain 08-09-2009 09:54 PM

i cant wait until you get them either! theres just about nothing better than getting a new pair of wheels.

So I was just browsing through threads and it just clicked for me - you're Chris, right? If I remember the name correctly. You were at Sonic last Saturday. I rolled in with Brett, Bryan, and Dan; the silver, blue, and red EVO Xs. And my buddy Olex, he's got the blue STi. I was there with the black speed6. Olex was telling me you used to have a speed6.

I was down for the weekend and had to check out the EVOs. I'd bring up the rear of the group on the road like "Yeah, I know these guys right here. Yeah! Woo!"

Nice wheels, by the way. Always loved the black on black.

2nr 09-13-2009 08:40 AM

that be me...

Czar Quanovan 11-01-2009 05:42 PM

So what was the final verdict on getting these wheels to fit without rubbing all the time? I'm looking into getting wheels sometime in the future and am trying to figure out all of my options.

martyxattack 11-02-2009 07:45 PM

if thats directed towards me i just rolled the fenders. i rub on bumps and hard cornering so just plan for coilovers as well.

So you are on stock suspension? I've heard that a lot of people have been having problems with rubbing because the shocks and springs arent stiff enough. I'll be dropped on the prokit pretty soon. I'm just trying to get the most aggressive setup that I can without rubbing constantly and damaging my tires. Thanks for the info.

Rubbing should never be blamed on the stiffness of the suspension, IMO...

If you've done your homework regarding fitment and prepared your car properly, the suspension should be able to move throughout it's entire natural arc without rubbing. In my opinion, if you're relying on the stiffness of your suspension to prevent interference between your wheels/tires and your car's body, you're doing it wrong. ;)
