painting stock rims So I've been pondering painting my stock rims. I'm not sure how durable it will be or how to do it myself as well. I was wondering if anybody had some tips or has done it before. Also I'm not sure on either a graphite color to match my car or black. Lastly I'm not sure if I want all one color or these two here that my friend drew up. Any suggestions on those as well? http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...%203/jeff3.jpg http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...%203/jeff2.jpg |
Check this thread out on a 2010 MS3 with painted OEM wheels: http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/foru...aspeed3-40916/ |
if you must go with two-tone do the second pic. lesser of two evils. i'd go with solid colors though. |
Two tone makes it look like spinners... Esse... |

U can do it dude it is easy. Not that durable, but u can just add additional coats. I can tell u how do it in 2 seconds its really easy. Put the car on jacks and take wheels off, wash & dry them, scuff w/ scotch brite, wipe w/ a tack cloth, spray adhesion promoter, 3 cans duplicolor wheel coating black, 2 cans duplicolor wheel coating clear, and your done. You can buy all tha shyt at pep boys. Just be ready for the extra attention the car will recieve. And u still need to keep them clean, they turn brown with brake dust. Good luck. http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h1.../JAMESMS38.jpg |

I highly recommend sanding with 2000 grit before spraying the clear. Here is a pic of my RX8's I sprayed this weekend. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y5/...3/9484149d.jpg I used the same duplicolor wheel paint last year without the clear and I thought the paint was very durable. I do alot of highway driving and didn't have any noticeable chips or scratches when I sanded them down this weekend. |
Here's a link to Lenny's thread about painting stockers, if you haven't seen it already: http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/foru...-wheels-53618/ |
ive actually seen that b4.. on a ms6.. looked iffy.. not as good as u might think... |
it looks great :) |
Finally got them done. I had to bring them to a shop to get done. Turned out decent. They just didn't get the center cap. Doesn't look that bad but I'll get it black eventually. I would have done them myself, but I just got a full-time job and now have almost no time to get anything done like I wanted. http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...3/P5030729.jpg |
