Silver Ecstasy 11-18-2008 01:31 AM

Meh...excessive. The wheels look huge, but they start to look a little out of place. Reminds me of Civics with 13" wire wheels stickin outside of the body.

Some 18x8's with those same tires may have looked just as good. The rim protector on the tire is practically in the air. I'm surprised the tire shop didn't say anything about an uncomfortable fit on the tires? And they don't rub??

madvillain 11-18-2008 01:35 AM

with the coils set this low, this car is far away from comfortable. im going to the body shop tomorrow to see what i can do with the fenders, and yes i am rubbing in the rear, but not as bad as you'd think. im just stoked to be doing something different.

Haltech 11-18-2008 02:21 AM

Its really not that bad looking, but wow, 30 offset is really sitting out there. I think you would of liked a 18X8.5 with 255s on there.

See if they can do some fender flares. Would look pretty badass i think.

CMESCOOT 11-18-2008 04:34 AM

255's? Holy moly!

Lymerock 11-18-2008 05:11 AM

may your parallel parking along curbs skill remain strong
those wheels look like they were taken from an 08 sti

TurboDreams 11-18-2008 06:54 AM

i think the stance is awesome..coming from a vw background

Hank3 11-18-2008 07:04 AM

Rim design looks great. Are they the Rota Tarmac 3s? Not a huge fan of tires being stretched. Are you turning the other set of wheels into spares?

madvillain 11-18-2008 07:21 AM

fender flares are at the end of the list of things to do, theyre still a possibility but im going to see what i can do with the fenders before doing that, because they havent even been rolled at all, and im only rubbing in the rear.

and the tires aren't really that stretched, i wish i would have gone with 255's or 265's but i was afraid of strut clearance, next time.

theyre the rota g-force, the fake advan RS's, and no the charcoal wheels will be for sale in a couple days, let me know if anybody is interested!

MPS 11-18-2008 08:06 AM

can i please get some more frontal nudity shots of that FMIC
i think i likes with out the grill
plus it will help me allot with my jammers =)

andre0121 11-18-2008 08:13 AM

im in love thats the only thing i hate about the ms3, not been able to get that wide rim look like in evos or subbies

BlackMS3 11-18-2008 08:14 AM

I think it looks freakin badass!!!

Nice man!!!

Silver Ecstasy 11-18-2008 08:16 AM

Let me correct myself, I still think it looks bad ass. I was only being critical over certain things here and there.

haha thanks man, i appreciate it. it is a pretty aggressive setup..

Buildabong 11-18-2008 10:50 AM

Looks good! I should have went 18x9 instead of 17x9 =( oh well. I thought they were the advan rgII's lol I love those rims. Just roll your fenders then you shouldn't rub anymore.. I don't rub anymore =)

gsrtype1 11-18-2008 11:04 AM

kinda big but looks tight! I kinda even like the stealth black wheels better..

madvillain 11-18-2008 11:22 AM

the stealth black wheels will be for sale soon =) ill take some close-ups of them when the time comes, but if anyones interested let me know! ill make an early-bird special on them.

bnoon 11-18-2008 11:56 AM

I think the rims look nice, but would rather have gone with a 18x8.5 on 45 or 48 offset. Wheeldude has them available and I've been eyeing them for quite a while.

Buildabong 11-18-2008 12:48 PM

why are people afraid to go 9 wide? Someone down here is going 9.5 wide soon =)

MazdaMan13 11-18-2008 12:53 PM

damn those look nice i'm gonna be broke indefinately with all the things i'm looking to buy lol

Super X 11-18-2008 01:32 PM

If I could find some 18x9 with 48-50 offset, I'd be on board.

Someone smokes the pot and makes posts. Damn dude! Understand you not and dyslexic am I!!!:haha:

mdogg 11-18-2008 03:54 PM

not my cup of tea.... they just stick out too much to be good for appearance. If they were tucked, they would be nice for sure...

saitek 11-18-2008 04:47 PM

Car looks good from a side profile. I agree the offset is killing the look.

I'd be afraid to take the corners hard, it looks like you might roll on to the rim. 245s on 17x9s look fine, probably the taller sidewall.

lidokrantz 11-18-2008 06:25 PM

if it was 18x8 with 45-48 offset and 235 or 245 tires it would be a better fit. If the fenders or wheel well was large enough for the tires to be in there not sticking out it would of been perfect. I love how the Advans look on the EVO with a deep offset, but for the Speed3 its a bit too much IMO, although as mentioned looks hot!! My tires looked stretched at the moment, so new ones are in the near future.

Same for me too. Needs flares. Looks out of place that far out.

atomicms3 11-18-2008 10:21 PM

Man, I love stretched tires, especially on VWs... but I'm not so sure about on the Mazda. Props, though!

(Not my corrado, but a good example of what I'm talking about... and it's a snowplow, just like my old Jetta!)

haha what the heck! the tires are baaarely stretched. but thanks for the compliments guys, and yes, some more body work will be happening tomorrow and hopefully resolve the remaining rubbing issues.

speed3 11-19-2008 02:01 AM

how is your steering response?

I'm such a pus when it comes to taking chances like this....That said, I really like the out come. Some negative camber should help with the rub.

thats why i got the fake ones, cause if i blew all that money on the real things and they didn't fit, i would have been fucked. i was stuck on this wheel, had they only made 18x10, i probably would have bought them. not really, but you know what i mean.

im still envious as hell of your advans

b-ron 11-19-2008 10:40 AM

thats sexy!!!!!! im rubbing in the rear with a 48+ offset 7.5 with my fenders some wat rolled lol i can only imagine what it would be like with 30+

i think it looks hot way to try some thing new

m4tic 11-19-2008 02:15 PM

i scrolled to the second pic, and i was like "fvck"

vaaarryy naaaiiiice

slo4now 11-19-2008 06:40 PM

Dont like, all you need now is a hydralic system on there, btw your
front left tire is facing the wrong way, look at the tread pattern.

madvillain 11-20-2008 01:06 AM

the wheels were just thrown on there for some pictures and a cruise around the block, theyre on correctly now haha.

thanks for the compliments [most of you], and just as an update, i rolled the shit out of my rears, and i still rubbed, so i had to raise my coilsss in the rear, which im pretty bummed about. i will post some pictures tomorrow!

Let's hope not. First ones were enough and then the VW ones made me throw up in my mouth. Tires are too short and offset is wrong just so he can lower the car enough to pick lettuce while driving. Dat B illn' yo.

full credit for a) doing something that I haven't seen yet with that size wheel on a MS3, and b) the post with all the pictures from every angle.

I really like the look of the gold wheels on a black car. the tires bulging past the fenders is too aggressive for my taste but if you can work out a way to flare out the fenders a little it will be completely badass. no idea how you do it and I'm sure it's expensive. i do think that the car needs wider tires. improves the look dramatically.

never did understand plate bluring lol

can you put any more camber in the rear? do you have camber links?
id think if you did / \ in the rear, you would clear the fenders

madvillain 11-22-2008 04:59 PM

honestly i'm not sure, im thinking about it.. the SPC's give you -1.5 degree, but idk. i probably will within the next week.. because i can't stand having the car that high in the rear haha. no rubbing though!

looks good, the rear needs help though, dam i wish these wheels fit easier love em

silversurfer3 11-24-2008 11:42 AM

i like it. I think i will do the same thing but with rotas LOL

omgimpaul 11-24-2008 06:26 PM

That looks really good! Way to try something new.

Ben08MS3 11-24-2008 08:52 PM

I think it looks extremely aggressive.

tunersteve 11-26-2008 04:51 PM

I actually like the overall look of this but I think I woul have went with the hyper black color myself. The wheel gap looks good overall.

madvillain 11-26-2008 10:55 PM

haha i would have loved to get the steel grey, but they weren't in stock, and werent going to be. my only choice was dark dark grey, which is basically black and black with a red lip, and gold. i like the gold a lot more than i thought i would, i don't think its too "blingy"

7mileshome 11-29-2008 10:08 AM

I like the gold and black look. If there was some way to flare the fenders out, those wheels would be perfect, IMO.

Those are Rota Tarmacs.

ispypsi 11-29-2008 06:17 PM

i like it! i'm not a fan of bronze, but i like the golds!

i've been eyeing the rota SVN's for a while, i really would love to rock the 18x9 +30 they offer, but i want them in matte/flat black and those only come in the bigger sizes i think. i could do silver, but the black would look good on my silver speed 3. that, or i'm looking at a polished/chrome version of something, like work S1, xd9, etc. something with a lip.

the rear stance looks just like my 240 did, i was running some 10" wide wheels with low offset. after i raised it up some to help with ride comfort, the rears stuck out like that, but it grows on you, and a little camber helps.

and fyi, i was running 225's on a 9" wide rim (BFG TA KDW) and they didn't look bad at all, but i think certain models of tires will run wide or run narrow. the 225s i had from BFG probably were almost a 235. i've all but given up on my racing days, so i'll take the aesthetic look for now...and keep the spare set for when i head to sebring or need a 'proper' setup.

i think if you get the alignment settings right, it will look pretty sweet. i'm having visions in my head of a silver ms3 dropped on a set of flat black 18x9 +30 with 235s. throw on a DG lip (left black/unpainted), and a roof rack, and call it a day. maybe smoke the rear 'flectors. [mr herbert family guy]mmmmmmmm[/herbert]

boost_me 11-29-2008 07:19 PM

DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN i love it! nuff said!

7mileshome 11-30-2008 08:34 AM

Do you think that a higher offset, like a 40 (18x8)would still have that concave look?

ispypsi 11-30-2008 12:53 PM

depends on the wheel. most wheels i know don't start getting concave til you're in the 30 and under offset area. my old wheels were only concave in 9 inch wide, if you got 15mm offset, and 10 inch wide wouldn't be concave unless you got the 12mm offset. (it was a rwd stagger)

sumthaiguy 11-30-2008 11:34 PM

NIIICE! haha love the new setup. if you dont mind me asking what were the specs of ur old rims and tires?

madvillain 12-01-2008 12:55 AM

the other rims and tires are 18x7.5, with a 45 offset. heres a bunch of pictures and information about them. PM me if you, or anyone else is interested!

okay so question...

every 3mm is = .25"

& i know u can fit a 18x9 w/ a 45mm offset in the rear of the 3.. no probs really... i did it on my mazda3.. + i had a pro-kit on it.. & only had to roll n pull alil...

So by my calculations.. u coulda shoved a 18x9(30et) in the front & a 18x10(45et)in the rear.... Both wheels would have stuck out about the same.... the rear wheels would only be in about .25" more then the fronts.. but know1 would really be able to tell unless u bought something w a SICK rear lip on it... heh..

I mean just to give u a heads up... so yeah...

It would look really really dope!

U could have gone wider in the rear & still achieved the same look that u have now... well.. it would be a wider wheel in the rear.. but you know what im saying...
-----------

TRUST i know what im talking about... heh

====================

U also said your rubbing in the rear...
what is yoru current set up...

i might be able to get it to stop... I had NO RUB in my car.. w/ a 18x9 in the rear of my 3...

Buildabong 01-04-2009 09:07 PM

i have 17x9 45mm.. and the backs stick out a little bit and rub hardcore till i rolled my fenders and i was stock suspension now im on sportlines =)

Thanks for answering my question!!! Ordering my 18x9" Buddyclub P1 racing II Plus's today. They are a 38 offset so shouldn't quite stick out that far. But your car is sick!!! I wish I knew how to use a damn computer to show you my SCCA Solo Class 1 Mazdaspeed Miata. But I love my Speed 3!!!

LandonHemenway 08-19-2009 06:51 PM

tunersteve 08-19-2009 08:14 PM

You'd be nuts to put at 10" wheel on the back of the MS6. What a waste of money. Stick with 8-8.5" rears for practical applications. 9" looks awesome, but isn't what I'd use for DDing.

speedster815 08-22-2009 07:05 PM

I hear rubbing and smell rubber from here..... Not Good.

JMEngineer 08-22-2009 07:29 PM

I like it. I want to do 19x9's on my MS6 with a good roll and pull.

There's a guy here in Cincinnati running 255's on wide, low-offset wheels on his MS6. They're not even close to fitting - they stick out at least an inch past the fenders.

madvillain 08-22-2009 09:24 PM

dont do 19x9's. dont do it.

JMEngineer 08-23-2009 02:18 AM

19's just look right on the MS6 -> http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/foru...eed-6-19s.html

And I'm willing to spend the money to get good ones... They'll still be lighter than 90% of the 18's I see people on here with. The 19x9 version of my current rims are still only 18.5lbs

madvillain 08-23-2009 04:11 PM

no i agree, i think those look awesome. his are 19x8, stick with that, when things get that close that inch makes quite a bit of difference.

speedyhans 08-28-2009 08:50 AM

17x9's will be lighter and you shouldn't have to roll your fenders quite as far, plus I think 17's look good on the MS3.

johnnick3 06-19-2010 09:47 PM

anyone find out how or where to flare the fenders to go all around on 245s or better? I had 245s on the front and found out they were rubbing the struts. Dunlap Dureza stars. Had fenders rolled and the 235s on the rear were shearing when more than one person was in the car. the Dunlaps are the best performance tires and have a good price. plus is there anything other than stiffer anti sway bars and coil-overs to make a bigger difference in handling ?

Does this help?
