My rims had all sorts of craters in them after a few thousand miles. They were flat black though, so at least I could color the exposed silver with a sharpie, but it still looked like shit.
I got a fucking steal of a deal at a trailer mfg to do all 4 for $60, but I showed up in uniform when I went in to ask them how much it would be. Plus it was the color they were doing their trailers, so they didn't have to do a special bake just for my rims. Anywhere else you'd be looking at around $50 per wheel. But then you've got to add in the additional cost of dismounting your existing tires/valve stems/wheel weights and then remounting and balancing. You're looking at around another $75-125 for that. Not to mention the probable month of down time unless you've got a whole set of spare rims/tires. So after you spent $300 bucks total for your powder coating, you could rattle can your wheels 10 times over and have it done in a weekend.
A few of my friends spray painted their wheels and didn't have any durability problems. It was just an easier/cheaper way to do it overall. |
