Reviews wanted for nt555r's and nt-01's So I'm looking at buying one of these for a 17x8 wheel. Which one have you guys ran and whats your opinion? I'm not going to the track just looking for better traction on the street and occasional canyon runs. I appreciate your input. Thank you, Josh |
I ran NT01's as a track tire last season. They aren't very good in the rain and they a fucking loud on the street. Grip wise they were fucking great though. |
I use the 555 in a 225/40-18 auto crossed them meh, better than the stockers but I would say that the nt01's might be a handfull in the wet. We have a lot more of that back east. This year I will be going to a 17x8.5-9 with a Dunlop direzza star spec in the 245/45 flavor I need a bit more sidewall for the freaking pot hole, crevasse, expansion joint loveliness roads we have in New York Shitty! |
Ok thanks guys keep them coming. We dont have too much rain here in so cal. My friend ran 555r's on his 04 cobra making just over 500whp and they were great, I just don't know which is better for our car. |
I too am pondering on a nice sticky street tire, I have kumho all season high performance 225/40-18's that came with the car and can't hold all my power, and squeel on the on and off ramps at moderate speed! Was thinking of going 245/40-18 or getting some 17's with 255/40-17. Decisions, decisions! Sent from AT&T Inspire 4G using Tapatalk. |
These are drag radials in case you didn't know. But they are DOT approved. With reading the reviews on americas tite website and here it sounds like the 555r's are the best bang for your buck. correct me if i'm wrong, but I heard the nt-01's can be used on ether side so camber wear isn't that much of a factor. Most people are saying they are getting 12-15k miles out of the 555r's with aggressive driving which would be ideal |
My friend runs the NT01's on his honda Fit (which he races regularly) and he loves them. He says they take the grip up to a "scary" level because corners can be taken far faster than what your brain thinks they can. |
I had 235/40-19's (555's) on my bolted 02' Maxima 6-speed and I could burn them off for a block! I thought they were supposed to be so sticky to! Sent from AT&T Inspire 4G using Tapatalk. |

since you asked for 555r's im guessing your looking for a drag radial etc i just ordered some bfg gforce dr's, had them before and loved them, dropped 60' times dramatically. i only use them for track use though but used to take them out on the street if i was racing for money (10 years ish ago) |

My daily front tires are 555R's. 245/45-17 on Enkei RPF1 17x8 +45 wheels I spin them to no end, but I'm making much more power. I can't get traction at WOT until 4th gear. @kritz used my 555R's at the track and cut a 13.1 @ 106. I do hate the side wall on the 555R's. They're too soft for aggressive cornering. I'd get the NT01's for turning. |
Yeah I'm at 311 hp and 370 tq right now, and I spin almost all threw 3rd on 245 40 17 handcook v12s. I think I'm going to buy the 555rs and see how I like them. If I don't really like them, then I'll buy the nt-01s. Thanks for your input guys. |
a little cheaper.......they don't make the nitto 555r in a 245/40/17 only in the 245/45/17 Ratings, reviews and specifications for Nitto NT 555R Drag Radial tires http://www.1010tires.com/tire.asp?ti...remodel=NT555R NT01..... http://www.1010tires.com/tire.asp?ti...tiremodel=NT01 |
Sweet good looking out. I appreciate it qtrmile :) |
You may want to look at hankook rs3s. Comparable grip to 01s when heated up, do ok in the rain, and xheaper than them. |

have you thought about the yokohama s drives? had em on my talon, good life and aggressive on the street, even can autocross on them and they hold their own and..........way cheaper then any of tires mentioned, large selection of sizes (unlike rs3). |

I drive 75-100 miles a day so I liked that they were quiet, comfortable and they weren't too bad in the wet either. I would say they are good if you commute as much as I did. Now if you're looking for a really grippy tire and don't care about the other aspects I don't think you will be as happy. A Star Spec, RS-3, NT-05, etc is going to have noticeably more grip than the V12's |
How about the Nitto Neogens? Not my post but I'm looking for something for the street that's sticky and decent in rain. Sent from AT&T Inspire 4G using Tapatalk. |
Yeah I like the v12s, they handle good, but no traction in a straight line. |
theyre great in the rain. when people were making turns and slowing down in the rain, i was that asshole that was zipping by them without effort. i even did a track day on them and had a 944 racer drive my car. he was surprised of how well the car handled at the speeds we were doing, even moreso that the car was on them. they definitely squealed, but traction was ok. |

@rfinkle2 runs the Nitto Neo Gens |
Hopefully he chimes in and tells us what he thinks of them. |
I like my Nitto Neogens very much. They are pretty quiet, probably a little grippier than the stockers in the dry and wet. I've had Bridgetone's RE960 a/s, Faulkin ziex 912 and a few others. The price, performance and tire itself are very nice. |

i did a few 1/4's on them. 1.88s all night....so decently sticky. |
well i have them on my 19's ADVAN with a 245/35/19 and they bit pretty good but i can still spin them... If you have external speakers you can hear the tires spin in this video.... Also if i had a video from the back you could see the back of the car cock to the left in the rear because the car tires spun so much. But i still pulled a 1.74 60ft out of this pass.. so the neo gens are pretty sticky tires in my opinion until you get to some big power. http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/b...h_MVI_2413.jpg |

Qtr mile beast's car is making a lot more hp than mine, and he seems to be happy with them in the post above. ^ |
If I had a ms6 then I wouldn't worry about DR, but since us ms3ers are fail wheel drive with good power, we need more then a street tire to put the power to the ground. |
NT-05s are the fucking shit. fix your tune if you want to help wheel spin. reverse boost taper FTW. |
Yeah true but I'd rather use the tire to get traction tho. |
reviving old thread FWIW... I have run Z1 Stars and they are have fairly good grip but quickly turn into a hockey puck. I then went to Advan A048 [current tire] which are killer in the grip department since they are DOT R compound tires but I wore them out in 6 months and they are over 300 each. ouch! I wanted to try the Hancook R-s3 but they are on national back order for 30-90 days in my size 235-40-18...and I am currently running slicks with the A048s.. sooooooo I am gonna give the NT05s a try and see how they stand up...then try the Nt01 if that doesn't work...tired of buying expensive tires to only have them last 6 months lol I have even adjusted my tune for reverse taper and hoping the combination of NT05 and that will give me a little more fun in 3rd gear :) BTW. anyone tried using performance snow tires? Like Mich pilot Pa3s I know a guy that's trying to talk me into those but I just don't think I can do it...haha @driver311 |
the nt-05s really are an awesome cheap tire. They are def not a drag radial, but in the turns, they do not disappoint. |
yup...we'll see...if I don't like them I'll get 2 nt01s for the front or go the driver311 route and get some mich pa3s and see what they are like...lol |
Yeah thats the thing, my friend had the 555r's for 6 months and they looked like they had about 60% tread life left. And he went to the local track a couple of times and did a few burnouts. Which is hard for me not to go with these. |
unless I am blind in one and can't see out of the other the 555r's don't come in my size 235-40-18 |
I'm going to be running the 245/45r17 |
yeah...seems they come in a ton of 17" sizes...Maybe I need my 2nd pair of rims to be 17s lol |
and 17inch tires are cheaper :P |
lol...right but I am an old man and don't want to lower my car and don't like huge gaps or sidewalls....what do ya do! :) |
Well if you have coils thats not a problem. :) |
Ok so I've had the 555R's on for about a week now. I'm very impressed with the grip. spins a little in 1st and thats it. At 35psi in the tires. In the rain they seem good but well find out more this weekend. Haven't gone on any twisties yet tho. |
|
ive never tried them besides sitting bitch in a 500hp cobra at WOT on a highway on ramp. they did grip. i wouldnt necessarily take them through turns though. |
As soon as the weather clears up I'm going to try them out in the turns and report back. The V12s handled good but with the soft sidewall I didn't like them. Well see how these do. |

True. But I have nt555rs. They feel pretty solid but we'll see. |

Its all good man. Yeah currently they are at 35psi and spin 1st and 2nd a little. |

NT555R vs nitto 555http://www.nittotire.com/Tire/nt555 cheap street/autocross tire is nt05 http://www.nittotire.com/Tire/nt05 another drag radial is the nt05r (hint the r) http://www.nittotire.com/Tire/nt05r road course tire is nt01 http://www.nittotire.com/Tire/nt01 which also confuses me because i told him about the bfg ta drag radials, and he said he would be daily driving them and didnt want a drag radial, he wanted a street tire, (wonder if he has them on the back too?) |
So NT555's not good with this car? |

Oh yeah. No worries man. Well these tires are great in the rain. They hook up in 3rd gear and i'm at 370wtq. :) |
I want a street tire with grip, how about Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport? |
Do they make the nt555s for the speed6? I have a set of the rims and am trying to find them for the rims lol |

2006 MAZDA 6 tires - Nitto they do not make a 215/45/18 in the 555, however they do make a 225/40 225/45 235/40 the closest to stock size is the 235/40 but is a tad wide for the factory 7 inch width rim. (can be done) the next closest is the 225/45 which is a sminge taller then factory and bout half inch wider, if you have the clearance and are set on this specific tire then this is a viable option and lastly if you are worried about clearance the 225/40 will fit just fine and be a little wider yet shorter then the oem equipment. the only one of the 3 that are suggested on a 7 inch wheel is the 225/45 though. there are fewer tires in the 215/45/18 range, a popular cheaper tire is the toyo proxes 4, somewhat sporty, and are all season tires. other popular one is the hankook ventus v12 summer tires. like i stated earlier in this thread it really depends on what you are planning on using the tires for ie autocross, drag racing, daily driving, grocery getting, nascar |
