Default Service Description.....

Hey guys,

Need to get two front tires ( Had too much fun, now tires won't pass safety )

I can get the same Bridgestone Potenza REO50A tires, but the service description is a 89Y. The stockers have 93Y, how much of a difference would this be? Would I even notice it?

Thanks
Stan-O

That "service description" is basically a load index tied to the speed rating. Those 89Y tires have the same speed rating, but they have a lower load index.

The OE 93Y tire has a load index of 1433 lbs, whereas the 89Y tire has a load index of 1279 lbs. Personally, I wouldn't use a tire with much less than the stock index rating. Those numbers might seem big considering what the car weighs, but you have to account for the weight transfer that occurs under acceleration, braking, and cornering.

I believe the tires I'm currently running have a service description of 95W.
