Default Tires

Hey guy's probably been talk over and over again but i need help.

I had my stock tire for 3 years now (only 20k on my ride) and i just want to go a bit wider and skinnier for my new tire.

The stock Potenza are really shitty, they squeal like crazy wear out fast and do so so in the rain, what is a good compromised for a aftermarket tire on MS3.

Dont bug me with the search button, been here long enough to know how it works, just needs some serious help here.

I dont want a cheap out on tire, i just need adviced from your guy. I will be doing a lot more milleage in the next year, around 24/26k every year.

Thanks in advanced for your help.

Hankook Ventus v12s are great in dry weather. I've heard people complain about them in the rain, but from my short experience they've been fine. They're cheap too.

I'm in Florida so I run gumballs, I have BFG kw2 no complaints, yeah the oem's wear quick but they handle sharper then the BFG's. Alot of members are running the Hankook V12's.

The firestone oval indy 500's are getting very good reviews considering the low price.

For something a bit higher end, the Nitto 555's are a very good tire.

why not the 225/45-18 instead of the 40? Does it rub on the stocker? Thanks

i just ordered a set of Hankook V12's as well. Heard great things about them and they are fairly inexpensive for a performance tire. I went with 235/40/18 but i have a Genpoo.

I have decided to go Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s (225/45/18). Often imitated never duplicated.

I have ran Continental ExtremeContact DWS (215/45r18)on the stock rim all winter and I love them. I ran Dunlop Direzza Z1 star specs last summer (255/40/zr17) and I expected to take a large hit on performance but the Contis were really good. I just picked up a set of Hankook v12s and will be installing them this week. I have heard great things about them and the price was right.

The Dunlop Direzza Z1 star specs are a great tire as well. The only reason I did not go with them is because of my commute I needed a tire with a little bit better road manners. The Conti ExtremeContact DW looks great but they are so hard to find if I had to replace one or two at any point I could be SOL. The PS2s on the other hand can be had easily and perform amazingly but you pay a premium but no more then for the Dunlops.

I was thinking maybe some Nitto 555 E.P. 225/45-18 to replace my worn out oem Bridgestone re050a..25588 miles.. I don't think those will rub on the stock rim...anyone..?

U need to answer some questions before u get answers

DD?
Auto x?
Canyons?
Drag race, spirited driving?
U care about price/noise/tread wear?

I had the star specs(cant say enough great things about them and down graded to the v12's for price and tread wear but next round I'm not going v12's. Its a dam fine passenger tire but its no performance tire.

The V12's are great until about half way thru the tread, then they don't grip so well. I'm running Bridstone RE-11's on 16x8 FD wheels. These tires grip like pine tar but are pricey in 18" size.

I've had the V12s on the car last summer and for 2 track days in the fall that ended up being wet. I thought they handled great on a wet track from actually raining full wet to a semi-dry line by the end of the day. Haven't had a chance to push them to the limit on a full dry track to see if I like them as much as the stockers.

For DD they've been working perfectly fine. Not a bad value for an all around summer performance tire.

Can't wait to get them back on the car in a few weeks, these winter tires simply suck. I was punishing the Blizzaks in a round-a-bout the other day, and it was ridiculous how early they let go, and they complain alot when pushed.

Its just for DD no autox yet and maybee once or twice to the 1/4 strip.
Spirited driving is an understatement, man i bought a speed.
Price is not a complete issue but io wont pay 275$ for a tire, thread wear cant be worst than the stocker.

I have the V12's for my daily tires as well. They are pretty good in both the dry and wet and road noise is minimal (nice when you commute 35 miles to work). I also had star specs which gripped even better in the dry and wet but they are very noisy so I decided to not go with them for DD.

Ok after lots of reviewing i think the Nitto NT555 in 225/40/18 will be the one for me, great price and good review on the internet.

But not decided yet, let me know what you think.

Might want an aspect ratio of 45 instead of 40. Your speedometer will have less error.

Ok. I was just throwing it out there. I think going with a 45 nets something like 1% or less. I'm not on my computer so I can't check. Either way, it's like 1 MPH with a 40. Cheers!

Nitto NT05's are great tire in both wet(even standing puddles) & dry for thier price. Compared to the Star Specs, V12's or the PS2's for a max performance summer the NT05 is an amazing tire IMO. I loved them on my Miata and can't wait to get them on my speed. I thought the did better in the wet than the star specs.

Some got those early on when they first came out but seems not many buy them anymore, must be a reason why. Good luck.

I have some Eagle GT AT Z rated tires rides quiet great in the rain or when its hot, Price is not too bad just call around. I've had no trouble with them, well other than picking up a nail here or there, (Tire warranty FTW)

I agree.

Anyone looking at tires like Star Specs needs to take a hard look at the NT-05s.

Unless I see something much better and cheaper come out before my current set of "closeout special" Hankook R-S2s are done, I'll be getting another set (I already ran through one set before the tires I have now).

You can find 235/40R18s for ~$150 a pop.

Ok here is some new's, i got some problem with the Khumo i ordered (my tire guy's cant find them anywhere). Well that's the best thing that happen to me in a while.

Got back on shopping and i found the Ventus V12 at a price i couldn't resist, so i just ordered them, will be here in 4 to 7 day's.

For you Canada guy's 1010Tires in Richmond B.C. have some really good prices on Hankook Ventus V12.....

Really? $215/tire doesn't really ring the cheap bell when south of the border you can pick them up for $133/tire... And there's less tax... And shipping is substantially cheaper... And their dollar is becoming and more cheap as they days go by Tirerack + America FTW!

Threadjack: If money wasn't a huge issue, RE-11 vs Star Spec vs Aziens RT-615, what would you buy?

First thing i didnt get them at 215$ but 185$ wich is good considering all they other place sells it for around 240/260$.
Second in U.S. i got a quote for about the same price with all the delivery, tax and custom, so it's all good.
For the Potenza i really was deceived with the RE050A, the star spec have good review and so those the Falkens.

But i was really interested in the Ventus, best bang for the buck i think.....

I will get them sometime this week and i will post reviews after a few miles on them.

I received my Hankook Ventus V12 tires today. Purchased at tirerack.com and shipped to Toronto. Total came to 835 USD or around 800 CND. I too found a place in BC that had a good price and it would have cost me just a bit more. I went with tirerack because I've had ZERO problems with them over the 4 purchases I've made there and shipping was faster.

I choose 225/45R18 as that was a closer match to the original tires. I'll mount them on my mazdaspeed(rays) 18x7.5 wheels.

Speedaway, we'll need to compare notes once we get these tires on, eh?

They look fantasic just stacked up in my garage. Can't wait to get them on.

Oh and my first choice for tires was the Continental ExtremeContact DW but 1) they were back ordered until 3 days ago and 2) the price went up by $50 a set. If I was purchasing today I'd problably still go with the ExtremeContacts DW just because they are lighter and have a larger wear index. No matter, i'll be able to compare the ExtremeContacts with V12 because my other car (Volvo S40 T5 AWD) has them new for this season.

Cheers!
