Tires: Impact on performance So I was reading a comparison test: 2009 Lancer Ralliart vs. 09 WRX. Check out the impact a tire change had on the Lancer Ralliart. This just goes to show how the simplest of modifications such as “tires” can have on performance. This sort of makes me wonder how big of an impact better tires can have on our MS3. 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart vs. 2009 Subaru Impreza WRX |
Remember: Everything that your car does ( accelerate, braking, cornering) all goes through the four contact patches that is not that much bigger than your 8 x 11 letter paper. Tires are the first thing to consider. You can have killer suspension, big brake kit and rocking 300whp, that all is going to do you no good if you ride on all season BS tires. |
Yeah I knew tires could make a difference but 5mph in the slalom is astounding not to mention the “new tires” they switched to were worn. Mitsubishi defiantly should’ve put better tires on that thing. |
this is why i'm currently rocking a set of conti extremecontact DWS. Best ultra-high performance all-season on the planet, period |
^ GTFO..... Bridgestone Re-11......FTMFW Thankyou. |
its so true..im running hancook rs-2 235/40/18...its like a different car. i now take my buddies 08 sti in all turns! |
someones sig had a quote from like mario andretti that said "to this day it still amazes me how people think that brakes are for stopping the car" |
i think that is fobio...but i've disabled sigs. i had a dream i got new tires. i was so fucking excited. |

all season is for Girls..... |
All season is for people not looking to change tires as they would a tank of gas. I agree w/ Cataphract_40 all season was the best choice i could have made for my driving habits. |
I'm with kink in the box on this one. All seasons are jack of all trades and master of none. by switching it ensures maximum traction year round. |
I have different tires for different occasions...summer tires for summer, snow tires for winter and r-comp tires for track...there is no one tire that will perform at their best in All-seasons...that's why they're called "no seasons"... |
I only say that because I put my car away for winters..... You want all season buy a truck and put the car away. But I do understand how it is to not have the option, It's only now that I'm an old guy I can do it. |
OK...here is the story the stock re050a tires that came from the factory recently went completely bald - as in well past the wear marks. We're talking a couple tenths of a millimeter tread depth. In about 3 days I will start driving from Phoenix to Montgomery, AL. I didn't want to drive 1700 miles on bald tires through who knows what kind of March weather, so I picked up a set of the DWS tires. They're in the stock size, mounted on the stock rims. I'll be living in florida for the next year or so, where I will purchase a set of dedicated summer tires. I am fully aware of the difference between summer tires and all-seasons...i never intended the DWSs to replace the RE050As completely. They are an interim tire between now and when I get a new set of summers. |

Been runnning the re 11's for several months now. |
I wish they would test the MS3 with different tires so we could see the results. I don't have numbers to support what I say about PS2's but they're defiantely an improvement over the stock re50a's. |
