VMR wheels - 2014 V702 18x8.5 +45 1 Attachment(s) Props to @lilred. He got me in touch with a guy on MOCC and I was able to get a 'sponsorship' for VMR wheels down here in Anaheim; basically I pay cost for the wheels, they drill the center bore and bolt pattern to fit my car and they also hire a professional photographer and take pics of my car to promote their wheel on a non European platform. The VMR guy liked my car and accepted it. I should get the wheels within 2 weeks. VMR is trying to figure out how to scale past the European market where they are well known. They have a new wheel in particular, the V702, that they feel will be a good choice for other cars besides Euros. I have been aware of VMR wheels for a while, but their designs are very European, they usually have very aggressive fitments and they don't really offer 5x114.3. I think these V702 wheels in 18x8.5 +45 will be a nice fitment for MS3 and MS6 and the style will be a nice choice for the body. These are cast wheels and based on what I read they will land around 21-22lbs/ea. I am debating either the machined finish or gunmetal, but after photochopping, I think I will do the gunmetals. I'll keep folks posted. I would be interested to get your feedback on the wheel and if you think its a good fit for Speeds. This is the wheel- https://scontent-b-sjc.xx.fbcdn.net/...79154350_n.jpg This is the shitty photochop just so I could get a feel for them. Gunmetal def looks better IMO. Thanks again @lilred. Hopefully we find a nice new option for Speeds. |
sick hook up |
|
those look pretty damn good. congrats on the hookup! |
I also got sponsored amd waiting on what wheel they are going to give me a discount on. They will also be able to do custom powder coat they said. Cant wait!!!! sent from my peepee |
I think the V702s are the only ones they are offering up at the moment unless I misread what the guy emailed me. I think because the V702s are a 2014 design and are coming into the facility as blanks. I could be wrong. You getting yours powdered blue? :D |
No I want red or gold I actually dont have tue blue wheels on anyomore. Im a wheel whore like yourself kind sir. Im on my 4rth set of wheels in less than 2 years lol sent from my peepee |

Haha dale...lol im running 225/40/18 bcuz broke. But I usually run 245/40/18 on my evo wheels. Just didn't have the casj for wider tires :( sent from my peepee |

Congrats on that dude. A buddy of mine has a set on VMR's on his Golf R. They seem to be great quality. |
|
the photochop doesnt look as good as the rim itself does. I def cant wait to see them on your car! |
If these wheels can exercise the wheel whore demons that possess my soul, that says a lot about them. A guy from MOCC Forums, @mazdaspeedmyk; posted these on MOCC after he stopped by VMR's office yesterday. I am not sure if he is a member on here or not. He decided to go with the brushed setup. I think I am still going with the gunmetal. http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...psbcb963ce.jpg http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...psbf47cd76.jpg http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...ps860e201c.jpg |
In a way, they are just a cleaned up version of the Gen 1 wheel, which is why I think they will look so good on Speeds. It's a blocky symmetrical 10 spoke like gen 1s. It's gonna look killer on Gen 1s, no doubt. http://images15.fotki.com/v1624/phot...35/gen1vmr.jpg |
Mmm it wanna see pics if the actual wheel on the car. You has any buddies with gen 1's you can test fit then on? |
These wheel aren't available just yet. From what I understand they arrive at the office here in SoCal around the 21st of this month as blanks and then they will be machined to 5x114 with 67.1mm cb. @Koke382; is a gen1 and he is getting a set. |
Ahh alright, well keep us updated please, looking forward to seeing these |
Congrats on the sponsorship! Am I seeing this wrong, but are the wheels a bit concave? If so, bad ass |
Ya, just a little concave to them. |
I do like persuading others in spending money haha. I think I can honestly say I've wanted every wheel setup you've ran since the rx8's tapafuck |
I would be willing to cut you a good deal on TSWs should these please me, just sayin. Bronze + red = hotness. |
I just got off the phone. I asked for custom powdercoat a sick ass red and they said its doable. So yeh im going tomorrow aftet work to peep the wheels sent from my peepee |

Here's what I wrote on MOCC about my initial impressions of the wheel: "I decided to go with the matte gunmetal with brushed aluminum face. It just popped when I saw it in person. Pictures don't really show the detail of the pattern in the brushed face. The matte gunmetal has a slight shine to it, not completely flat like you'd expect. I took a few pics of the matte gunmetal and the brushed aluminum against my car, but I was in the shade so they're not very representative of the wheels. They're heavy at about 22lbs, so I'm not excited for the added weight. I was talking with @color0, and I agree with him and put the V702 in the "style" category as opposed to "performance". I just wanted to take the opportunity to have something unique on the car." Here are a couple more pics of the brushed aluminum: http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...pse82a4c7c.jpg http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...psfdb15f51.jpg I wish they were as concave as the ones VMR posts in pictures, but those are the 19x9 +35s. Velocity Motoring is looking to sponsor more Mazdas to help showcase their new product. They'll be looking until November 21. If you're in SoCal (VMR is in Anaheim) and interested, PM me and I'll put you in contact with them and they'll give you all the details. From their post on MOCC, "Please keep in mind, sponsorship does not include a FREE set of wheels. You will be heavily discounted and if given the chance.. participate in an awesome photo shoot from one of our top-notch photographers." VMR-Wheels-V702-Multispoke Now back to creeping in the bushes. |
I am actually starting to lean towards the matte gray with brushed face myself now. If the gunmetal was a little glossier like other VMR wheels, I would rock it, but I already ran flat gunmetal wheels and didn't like em after a while. It was a good call how they left the lip brushed too. |
What do you guys think? I typically tend to lean towards darker wheels for contrast, but damn, some nice bright wheels look good on white too. Dark contrasts white and looks good and silver wheels look very clean. I am kind of conflicted now... |
Darker but not too dark looks nice. Although a nice clean bright wheel would be clean too sent from my peepee I guess I didnt make it easyer for u lol sent from my peepee |
That was the opposite of help. Lol. I do like dark, but I like shiny/glossy dark primarily. Matte darks tend to look like dirty wheels. |
Yea I feel u. I want to see what powdercoat colors they have because I kinda want red... sent from my peepee |

Get shots from a few different angles so I can do some photoshop please. |
For sure bro im going after work today so ill post pics on here. sent from my peepee |
Thanks. I'm back to matte gunmetal for now. |
And here I am to conflict because imo brushed face is sex lol tapafuck |
Hahaha fucken stop it jose lol ur confusion is causing sex lethargy in the wheel brain if that makes any sense sent from my peepee |
Dark colors and reds will look killer with brushed or the matte silver, no doubt. The matte silver has that kind of OEM look to it which is badass. White is just too monochromatic for me with silver/brushed wheels. Hey @Koke382;, here you go: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8316/7...6384b337_c.jpg Give me some good shots of your car and the wheels, and we can do some photochopping to give you some ideas. |
Damn im down for that color lolololol Ill take plenty of pics domt worry sent from my peepee The place is literally next to my house lok sent from my peepee |
I did one more shitty chop to sell myself on the gunmetal. I'm going gunmetal. The V702 was actually the wheel design I have kind of been looking for. I have always been attracted to the clean backlip blocky multispoke wheels, but there isn't a lot of selection. The Evo Xs are a more aggressive fitment than I want to run, wheels like the the Rota G-Forces have too much concave with the spokes sticking out 10mm past the lip, and wheels like the Konig Milligram aren't available anymore. http://images15.fotki.com/v1624/phot...702_mockup.jpg |
You switch wheels more often than hoes switch clothes. |
This is all true. |
VMR wheels - 2014 V702 18x8.5 +45 Quote:
Did you look at the matte silver? I liked them, but felt they'd always look dirty from brake dust. |
Those are great looking wheels. I've got a set of VMR's on the GTI and the quality is great. If these where out when i bought the momo's. I might have went this way. |
Where's my wheel porn @Koke382;? |
My bad dale I got home late from work :/ sent from my peepee |
Tomorrow? |
2 Attachment(s) Here's a couple pics the guy at VMR sent me; I wanted to get a better feel for the concave of the 18x8.5 +45. As you can see, there is some concave there. I like how the spokes don't go all the way to the lip and I like the multi angles on the spokes. It isn't a cheap looking design. It's a nice, clean and simple design more on the OEM'ish side than other aftermarket wheels. I will hopefully be getting these installed early next week. |
I want the silver ones in the back left of the first pic!!! |
@Koke382;, you still picking a set of these up? |
|
Uhh, are these for sale? I am on my phone so sorry if you answered this already. I am wheel shopping currently. |

He sent me a text, said he is trying to get our sets expedited and ready for pickup by the end of Tuesday. No photoshoot date yet but that will be a lot of fun. I am really surprised we are the only two that signed up. We are getting these things at a killer price. |
VMR wheels - 2014 V702 18x8.5 +45 I'm surprised too. We just might be the only two Mazdas with them for a while. The deep discount is the main reason I decided to get a set. I wasn't even looking to buy wheels. Are you going to get yours on Tuesday, if they're ready? I asked him to try and have mine done by then, since I'm selling my Rays and need them before Thanksgiving. VMR is still looking for more Mazdas to sponsor, so PM me if anyone is interested and I'll give you the contact info. |
Picked up my wheels from VMR's warehouse today. I think we are going to be able to pull some sweet wheel designs from VMR into the Mazda community. These wheels are badass in person. I'll have the privilege of having the first set of these new wheels on my car in the country. I'll get them installed Friday and post pics after. The wheel guy said these have to be reverse mounted, i.e. face down on the mounting machine. http://images15.fotki.com/v1624/phot..._unmounted.jpg |
Can't wait to see them man |
SoCal only eh? Puts me out of the running, otherwise I would love to sign up. |

Alright @mazdaspeedmyk; time for pics!!! I have been waiting patiently. :D |
VMR wheels - 2014 V702 18x8.5 +45 I finally got the VMR V702 on yesterday. They look great on the car and I am very happy with them. These are Matte Gunmetal with Aluminum Brushed Face, 18x8.5 +45. The tires are Bridgestone Potenza RE11 225/40 R18. The lugs are WedsSport Racing Lug Nuts, blue, openended. Here are pics I took. (Lots of trumpets blaring. Some fanfare. Streamers and confetti raining down.) http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...psd475dd15.jpg http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...ps83bd2e00.jpg http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...ps02e31757.jpg I'm lowered on H&R springs and Koni Yellows. http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...psd142e4d6.jpg http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...ps740fb8a4.jpg http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...psb9174489.jpg http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...ps835ddb1e.jpg http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0b94682e.jpg They fit pretty flush and the Bridgestone RE11 225/40s only have a very slight stretch to them. The rear fenders have been rolled. http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3fb58c1b.jpg http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...psad8a1f72.jpg The texture of the aluminum brushed face is what I like most about the wheel. It's the main reason I decided to get a set. I also like the simple and clean design. The spoke coming to an end right before the lip is a nice touch, as is the recessed valve stem. There is a slight concavity to the wheel, that I found more noticeable once it was on the car. The only negative thing I can say about the wheels is that they are heavy, weighing in at 24.6 lbs. I wish there was an VMR V702 stamp on one of the spokes or in a space next to the valve stem. It could be subtle and help people ID the wheel. http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5650d953.jpg http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...psac0ddce3.jpg http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4a70b3f4.jpg http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...psd9268951.jpg http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8a77a66b.jpg http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...ps03351fc0.jpg If anyone is interested in a set, feel free to reach out to VMR directly. My contact there is: Mitch mitch@velocitymotoring.com (714) 442-7916 ext. 107 vmrwheels.com Thanks Mitch for giving me the opportunity to be one of the first Mazdas with the V702. High five! |
Those look great on a pu. But at ~25lbs they are some anchors. Love the brushed finish as well Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2 |
Those look really clean! I like that they resemble the factory gen one wheels. |

Wheels look great on the pu! I agree the concave looked amplified once it got installed on my car. |

UPDATE: I have been on these wheels for almost two months. Still love them. This is a first for me, usually by now I am trolling for my next set. Free HJ to @lilred; next time I see him. They don't hold onto brake dust at all, don't show it, and they look just as good whether they are clean or dirty. They are kind of a PITA to clean, but I still look at them and love them. http://images15.fotki.com/v1624/phot...ck_grille2.jpg Some local pu owner got them powdercoated in green. I'll post pics if he ever mounts them. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...110_124647.jpg |
See you Saturday? tapafuck |
is there any word on when these wheels will be made available? or any of there other wheels for our cars? |
Quote:
I asked VMR about this and this is their response: "Wheels are available now! Our new website will be released in just a few weeks. It will include all the updated information on the new wheel models. I'm glad you asked that. We definitely took those suggestions to heart, with that being said, we are slowly starting to offer more wheel models with a variable PCD. As of right now we're offering the V710 and V703 (in certain diameters and widths) with the option of being drilled to 5x114 etc. Eventually, you may find all of our wheel models with this option." |
Can't wait, think I'm going to order some! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Dale_gribble; how much fender was needed to make these wheels fit? Do they rub at all? |

Wow, that setup looks great on the white. |

VMR wheels - 2014 V702 18x8.5 +45 I've been liking the look the VMR V702s give my car. My friend and I went out to the Queen Mary and snapped a few pics in the sun. His green wheels really pop out in the light. I noticed the concavity in them as we were driving to the location. Enjoy! http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...psfd7d67bd.jpg http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6caa5f29.jpg http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...ps02b5c651.jpg http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...psc2e89b0b.jpg http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1261ca20.jpg http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8b0c53fb.jpg http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1c8db7df.jpg http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...psb58023d4.jpg http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...ps79c44359.jpg http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2850413f.jpg |

Im loving the 701s and 702s. Didnt read thread but saw the pic of you car in the top hat thread and fell in love.. Got RZs cause I wanted a concave rim and cannot get RS concave in 18x8.5et45. I like the RZs but GOD DAMN! Looks amazing. Good job. First time ive seen a rim I want in years... Edit Looked closer at the 701s and prefer the 702s. How do I find the price? |
