VMR wheels - 2014 V702 18x8.5 +45

I finally got the VMR V702 on yesterday. They look great on the car and I am very happy with them. These are Matte Gunmetal with Aluminum Brushed Face, 18x8.5 +45. The tires are Bridgestone Potenza RE11 225/40 R18. The lugs are WedsSport Racing Lug Nuts, blue, openended.

Here are pics I took.

(Lots of trumpets blaring. Some fanfare. Streamers and confetti raining down.)

I'm lowered on H&R springs and Koni Yellows.

They fit pretty flush and the Bridgestone RE11 225/40s only have a very slight stretch to them. The rear fenders have been rolled.

The texture of the aluminum brushed face is what I like most about the wheel. It's the main reason I decided to get a set. I also like the simple and clean design. The spoke coming to an end right before the lip is a nice touch, as is the recessed valve stem. There is a slight concavity to the wheel, that I found more noticeable once it was on the car. The only negative thing I can say about the wheels is that they are heavy, weighing in at 24.6 lbs. I wish there was an VMR V702 stamp on one of the spokes or in a space next to the valve stem. It could be subtle and help people ID the wheel.

Thanks Mitch for giving me the opportunity to be one of the first Mazdas with the V702. High five!

Those look great on a pu. But at ~25lbs they are some anchors. Love the brushed finish as well

Those look really clean! I like that they resemble the factory gen one wheels.

Stock wheels are 24-25lbs, so its just a wash weight wise and stock wheels are 1"-1.5" narrower than these. I wouldn't call these 'anchors'.

Wheels look great on the pu! I agree the concave looked amplified once it got installed on my car.

I always thought they were 21, my mistake.

UPDATE: I have been on these wheels for almost two months. Still love them. This is a first for me, usually by now I am trolling for my next set. Free HJ to @lilred; next time I see him. They don't hold onto brake dust at all, don't show it, and they look just as good whether they are clean or dirty. They are kind of a PITA to clean, but I still look at them and love them.

Some local pu owner got them powdercoated in green. I'll post pics if he ever mounts them.

I asked VMR about this and this is their response:

"Wheels are available now! Our new website will be released in just a few weeks. It will include all the updated information on the new wheel models.

I'm glad you asked that. We definitely took those suggestions to heart, with that being said, we are slowly starting to offer more wheel models with a variable PCD. As of right now we're offering the V710 and V703 (in certain diameters and widths) with the option of being drilled to 5x114 etc. Eventually, you may find all of our wheel models with this option."

almcbs 01-25-2014 06:44 AM

Can't wait, think I'm going to order some!

Dale_gribble; how much fender was needed to make these wheels fit? Do they rub at all?

Ya, pretty much plan on a good rear fender roll with these. The 8.5 +45mm on a Speed6 is pretty much a mandatory rear roll. Maybe you could squeak by if you ran a 225/40 or 225/45 but I doubt it.

VMR wheels - 2014 V702 18x8.5 +45

Took some pics with my friend that got the VMR V702s in powder coat green, 18x8.5 +45. They look great on the car and the green really pops.

EDIT:

The tires are Continental Extreme Contact DW 225/40/18. He's lowered on BC Coils and the height is very similar to my car on H&Rs.

VMR wheels - 2014 V702 18x8.5 +45

I've been liking the look the VMR V702s give my car. My friend and I went out to the Queen Mary and snapped a few pics in the sun. His green wheels really pop out in the light. I noticed the concavity in them as we were driving to the location. Enjoy!

My friend with a LSM MS3 ordered V710s PC'd, burnt current, and is waiting for them to arrive. I'll post up pics when he gets them on.

I liek thems. Especially in green.

Bumping this up. I just spoke with Mitch and they're still looking to expand their offerings, like the V810, V718, and V701. Prices would be dependent on how many people we can get in on this. For more info, here's Mitch's contact info.

People on the other forums are asking for weight. In 18x8.5, the v810 is about 20lbs and the v718 is 23lbs.

I am a banana 06-27-2014 04:55 PM

From Mitch. "Thought I'd share this.. Nickel Plated V810s" He's also offering Hankook v12s 225/40 for $103/ea or Hankook evos
235/40/18 for $135/ea

Thats fuckin sweet!!

If anyone is seriously interested, the group buy ends July 10th. We've got 3 (including me) on another forum with some more interest here and there. 5 buyers increases the discount even more.

soldieroftafari 07-02-2014 04:26 PM

How much per wheel for the nickel plated 810? I want that!

I am a banana 07-02-2014 04:28 PM

$200/wheel. Yeah. $200. Per. Wheel.

dale_gribble 07-02-2014 04:40 PM

@I am a banana; can you please provide your affiliation with VMR wheels just so we all know? I guess I was coming from the part of enthusiast, excited about a product to share with the community and I am happy to evangelize VMR wheels because I am quite happy with them. I love VMR wheels. So happy I have bought 2 sets in a year.

You almost seem like a sales person for VMR; so if this is so, I think it's fair just to disclose that for all of us. What's your affiliation with them? Because I would love to see VMR on here as a rep, just not covertly.

I am a banana 07-02-2014 04:46 PM

I've got no affiliation to them. I missed out on the their sponsorship offer the first time and contacted Mitch a couple weeks ago about it. He basically set up a group buy situation from there, which I've been organizing on mazda3revolution. He's chimed in on the MOCC thread. I just want discounted wheels and I’ve wanted VMRs for years. I’m just jizzing because they’re finally available in 5x114.3 and I can finally afford it. My user name is "mountjonas" on MOCC and "my spoon is too big" on M3R. Feel free to confirm with @mazdaspeedmyk

mazdaspeedmyk 07-02-2014 05:00 PM

VMR wheels - 2014 V702 18x8.5 +45

He's not a sales rep for VMR. He's just trying to organize everything. He's the one that convinced me to get on the v702s.

Edit: He also convinced me to get Rays RE30, and my current WedsSport SA55ms. I'm poor now thanks to him. SPEND!!! HAHAHAHAHA.

CHUNKYBOWSER 07-02-2014 05:27 PM

Is the group buy for the nickel plated 810's? And $200 a piece?

What size are they?

I am a banana 07-02-2014 05:34 PM

Group buy is for different styles, 810, 701, 718, and yes, nickel plated is $200 per wheel on top of the cost of the wheel. So, $800 for nickel coating alone.
