What do I need for TPMS?

I have a stock '06 MS6 and my noob question is, can you add TPMS to any MS6? Is it something where they all have the capability and I would just need to buy the sensors or is it a case of, if you don't have it then you can't have it?

I just replaced my tires and the guy asked me if my car had TPMS and I said that it didn't but I was pretty sure it was an option. I asked if I could buy the sensors and have them added and he said it was okay as long as the car had the system installed. So I bought them and he told me that they didn't seem to initialize and he wasn't able to see any dash lights coming on indicating the system was active. He also said that sometimes it takes 20-40 miles of driving while the system calibrates itself before the sensors 'check in' with the system. So far I haven't seen a light come on and I couldn't find any reference to TPMS in the manual.

Can I take it to the dealer and tell them my TPMS isn't working and have them 'program' it or is it a feature that you would have to have added at the factory?

I think you got suckered into buying TPMS sensors.

If they were not previously installed... and there is no indicator light lit up on the gauge cluster, then you did not need them. The person at the shop should have known that already tho, so I hope you are able to return them and get your money back.

I told him that I was pretty sure that all MS6 models have the capability and it may be a matter of having it programmed at the dealership. He said that the Corvette was setup that way and even if you didn't get TPMS when you bought a Vette all you had to do was add the sensors to make it work. He was really honest though and he told me to drive it a little and if didn't initialize on it's own after 40 miles or so to check with the dealership. If they weren't able to program it he said I could bring it back and he'd refund it in full.

I didn't want to take it to the dealership and look like a total ass if I was wrong so I thought I would check here first. I was hoping someone here had added them successfully and it was just a programing issue.

Thats cool that he was honest about it at least. Good to know you can get a refund as well.

I have never heard of it being an option you can add later, but I could be wrong. Maybe someone else can chime in and verify this.
