Wheel Spacers installed, handling is..different I recently installed 5/16 and 7/32 spacers on the rear and front wheels respectively. I have stock suspension/height with 225/45's....it fills out the wheel well a little better and looks almost flush. I only added them for this reason, however I have noticed that the widened track has changed my handling a bit. I can't say whether its better or worse....Initial turn-in feels mostly the same as does the majority or turns and corners, its only when you really push it that it feels like it breaks traction a little sooner than usual. Obviously this is due to the wider track however I wonder how much of this is due to the staggered set-up? I'd love for anyone with solid knowledge of suspension or experience running staggered spacers to chime in with what it actually happening when you A) add spacers and B) add staggered spacers. Is there anything I else should be concerned about? High speed handling perhaps? I hit 200+ a couple a times a week on my morning commute (deserted highway...great white north FTMFW) (1st gen MS3) |
wider rear track induces more understeer...increased rear grip relative to the front will do that to you... |
Wait! What? 200+? Was that a typo? |

Oh ok... Reading fail... My bad Carry on |
I'm really too lazy to type all of it out again right now, but I addressed this issue a bit some time ago on 24/7, so here's the link to the thread: Camber Question... - Mazda Forums Post #29 of that thread is where I started my explanation, and it continues throughout the rest of that thread in several posts. While the spacers you're using aren't quite as extreme is size as the ones I was talking about in that thread, the same principles apply (though they are certainly less exaggerated with your setup). |
