Default Wheels Don't Move When Lugs Are Tightened???

Just changed my rotors. I had to drill the rotor screws out and everything went on fine until I tightened the lugs and now the front wheels won't budge?? wtf? They move fine with the lugs loose.

It sounds like you are pushing the rotor into the brake/mount. What is the part number for the rotors you installed? Did the rotor spin with the brake bolted in place? Was the rotor sitting flush or was it being pushed out?

Autopart International 1407-77130. Yeah everything spun with the brakes installed, it seemed pretty hard to turn them though. Do you mean flush against the hub?

try putting some washers down on the lug studs and running a few lug nuts down (don't kill them with an impact just tight with a 3/8" or be careful with a 1/2"). If the rotor won't turn you should be able to find out where it's hitting. Some checking for witness marks may help as well.

Well I looked up the part number and it definitely says that it fits the Mazda 6... do speeds have different rotors than stock? I noticed weird notches inside the new rotors that my old ones didn't have. The same thing happens on both sides so the odds of something being mounted bad the same way on both sides?

Pretty sure the MS6 uses different front rotors than regular 6s...

*EDIT*

Yup:

Disc diameter:
03-05 Mazda 6 => 11.1"
06-07 Mazda 6 => 11.8"
06-07 MazdaSpeed 6 => 12.6"

That's odd because I put them on top of each other and they were the same diameter.

Jk, I think I did that with the rears.

(From a different site. The guy was trying to install ms6 brakes on a Mazda6) :

Oh and your gonna find that the dust shields will rub on the speed rotor, rather than take them off, which can be a real pain, you can just bend them back a little, did mine 2 years ago never had a problem. The set screws on the rear rotors are usually pretty difficult to get off, you dont need them, they put them on at the factory to hold the rotor on untill they can get the caliper on.
I bought my calipers used from Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market, bought new Rotora slotted rotors and ceramic pads. I think Rotora went out of business, too bad, their brakes were great, 50,000 miles later and im still on the same pads, Awesome upgrade.

So apparently Advanced Auto has front rotors for the ms6, but they're 320mm? 12.2 inches is 309mm.

edit: Another advanced has them too, but they're 314mm now. Wtf

Screw those guys. You'll get the correct parts the 1st time from someone who knows Mazdas. (They're a forum sponser, too!).

I kind of need my car on the road asap, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered with these asshats.

I never understood how people don't realize these cars aren't the same as the mz6 and mz3. There is very little carry over.

I believe the quote (from another site) I posted earlier was incorrect.

To my knowledge, the MS6 uses the same rotor size (320 mm; 12.6") as the MS3.

I edited the above post for clarity.

Using regular 6 rotors on the speed wont work with your current configuration. When you tighten things the rotor is most likely binding against the pad.

Centric and a few other suppliers make made for Speed rotors, may be best bet to find a place that sources those, and go in armed with part numbers cause parts counter guys know pretty much nothing, lol.

Yeah I was looking at Centric, but I don't think Advance Auto has them. What compatible brands would they carry?

None. you won't find these at most parts stores. If you need them now see if a local dealer has them. If not then overnight an order

Confirmed, I was given the wrong brakes. I just bought the car, so whoever owned it before me let the rotors get really bad.

This. Why even fuck with another auto parts store? Advanced, Carquest, Vatozone, & Oreillys have all tried to give me the wrong parts for the MS6, only when Napa has told me it would take them "XX" amount of days to get the actual part I needed. No Napa, enjoy the Ford/Mazda stealership. Or, overnight them from Edge, KNS, etc.

Napa Part #'s
UP 880474 Front
UP 880473 Rear

They are about $250 for all 4.

They carry Asstomouth rotors as well which are nice in appearance... but they are $120 each for the front.

I got the right rotors this time, but I'm ordering quality parts online in the future when I have more time. Trying to get everything done before I get stationed in Mississippi. Now to figure out where that whining noise is coming from... I already did the girlfriend delete mod, so it can't be her...

I grabbed rotors and pads from autopart international for my ms3 last summer and got the right ones. I just made sure to tell the guy multiple times it was for a speed... Also have had a passenger side axle on my car from them for over a year.
