The evo guys don't like Rotas or XXR wheels.

You won't find unbiased info on Rotas on the evo forums (@ least that was the case about a year ago).

Rotas:Evo forums as CPE:msf.

those are XXR 522 They are 7 spoke, Grids are 6

I stand corrected Mr. Slayor!

Raider 11-15-2011 05:57 PM

Then you are all fucked! Lol

Slay0r 11-15-2011 08:58 PM

those Enkies are nice for stockers (21lbs) and actually, my wheels came in today so another memeber (beezaa) is getting my enkeis

BeeZaa 11-15-2011 09:01 PM

I should have the evo x wheels on by the end of the week. I need to find out how to properly roll the fenders on a gen 2.

I only threw the brand out because I was thinking of a wheel brand for the scorched Evo pic.

Why would you need to roll the fenders?

We have a shit ton of room (gen2)Beezaa.

Depending on your suspension set up, you should have plenty 'o room.

I'm running a 18x8.5+45 on H&R springs and have no issues (not even close to rubbing).

goob_os101 11-16-2011 07:21 AM

I hope they are not that bad...I want these:

the Evo x stock Enkeis are 18x8.5 et38. Hes stock height now, but will b lowered on at least coils soon ;)

Goob- Konig came out with a mesh/CSL style wheel for this year as well. I know they wont be as cheap as the XXRs, but there are mult. companies that make that style of wheel. Any word on the weight of those 530s?

4G63 11-16-2011 09:02 AM

It broke mainly do to the fact that ALL Evo's have so much unstoppable power that the wheel was no match. Could've been fucking iron, wrapped in titanium, then recovered with carbon fiber and it still wouldve broken.

This is RARE for any wheel to do this in fact. Think of how often you've seen it happen on this forum...I've been a member and lurking for over 2yrs and I've yet to see it happen. Shit happens no wheel is perfect.

Tokay444 11-16-2011 10:00 AM

Still won't need a fender roll.

21.8 pounds for a 18x9.75

If you scroll down on any of the wheels on their site it give all the info on the wheel. It's in a box I'm assuming that 21.8 is for that size wheel.

@Darksun280 doesn't look like I'm gonna get XXR's anymore hahaha. Probably going with Enkei NT03+M's and powdercoat em gold

InFeXIoN 11-16-2011 10:21 AM

i like them, but wth, the widths jump from 7.5 to 8.75? lol

lol @ "Approximate weight 21.8lbs" ...Seems pretty exact to me. But i do think those wheels will b heavier than 22 lbs, but that just me

BReif61 11-16-2011 11:31 AM

My guess? Pothole started a crack, vibration from driving expanded it to the failure point and we all see the result.

Would this deter me from buying cast wheels? No, as the first crack had to start at an imperfection, so that wheel was really fucked from the get-go. Manufacturing flaws are just a fact of life, and can happen with any process.

That being said, I must say I am a fan of forged wheels. I schwacked a crater (calling it a pothole would be the equivalent of calling the Grand Canyon a drain swale) that blew a hole in the sidewall big enough to put my finger through, but the wheel shrugged it off like a fuckin' BOSS.

Wheel Tech - Wheel Construction

Info on all types of wheel construction ^^^ :paranoid:

Domino81 11-17-2011 10:20 AM

I hope I don't have that with Sonic Tuning wheels eventually when I get a set.

Mazdanspeed3 11-17-2011 07:04 PM

no they use the low pressure casting system = higher quality but at a slightly higher manufacturing cost. I believe Enkei uses the same technology

i thought high pressure was higher quality not low pressure.

blah blah blah...

shit happens.. sometimes things don't work out.. sometimes things break... don't line up.

that's life.. nothing is perfect. Stop trying to say because 10people on random forums had wheels blow up/break/crack.. doesn't mean.. they are all crap.

that being said, yes you usually get what you pay for.
pay for cheap shit.. get a cheap product...
but Im not going to say it applies for wheels..

but say you buy a cheap front lip.. does it line up like a OEM unit.. or a Auto.Exe...
NO... so you buy cheap wheels.. what keeps their cost down..

they aren't cheap cuz the are in the business to give shit away.. im sure they are out to make money. If they are $650 new... what are they making off a set..?
$200-250..?
So it cost them $400 to make a set.... that includes.. pouring the cast.. paint..
thats cheap. a good shop is going to charge you at least $100 to paint that cheap lip you just bought. think about it.

SpeedSixxx 01-11-2012 06:12 PM

ive had XXR rims with much thinner spokes on my speed for 2 years now and no problems.

they are cheaper rims that will dent easy but you do for the most part get what you pay for.

i'd buy a set of rims from them again for the right price.

A majority of Mazda's wheels are manufactured by Enkie, as with many Japanese models. In fact, I've read on several occasions that the 5 spoke RX8 wheel is cast spun. Still trying to get confirmation on that.

The big difference with wheel manufacturers is more cosmetic than structural. Paint, labor, and import costs can easily triple the price. If the manufacturer is an OEM supplier, chances are the structural materials and manufacturing methods are similar.

dubunderpar 01-13-2012 07:22 AM

I totally believe this girl's story, I see wheels shatter themselves to pieces everyday. Plus why would anyone ever lie on a car forum?

Domino81 01-13-2012 07:31 AM

Attention?

Cracked and broke in half? Mine are tweaked, not broke. That's why I'm buying 4 new ones. :D
