Default DIY vent valve OCC

diy valve cover OCC. for those people who dont like throwing oil into your turbo compressor

edit: changed my filter media to SS scrubbing pads

use this over SS wool

instructions

occ talk

parts needed

ebay occ or just a cylinder whatever works, and something you can stick a filter media in.

fittings - pepboys, vatozone etc.

SS teel scrubber pads - walmart etc

breather filter - ebay (our valve covers are i think 15mm? their alot bigger than the standard breather filters they sell.)

5/8 hose (i think) - pepboys vato etc.

assorted tools, taps etc.

tap out the holes, rinse shavings out and shove the SS scrubbing pad in there.

mount with a worm clamp or whatever, sure your smart you can figure it out. you could self tap a plate or screw a bracket into the fire wall, i mig'd a plate to the strut tower

no, aslong as your engine is drawing enough vacuum through the pcv you can vent the valve cover.

I just added a second catch can just like you did. I was about to do a little filter like you did, but wouldnt that be pulling in unmetered air through it? Thats why i did a return line to the tip..

No vent valve is positive pressure, hooking it up to the tip aids in evacuation from vacuum from the turbo however you will be shoving ccrank case gases into the turbo which over time can damage the fins when the liquid condenses back into oil and gas hence why yu put a cc in between

This sounds like a good idea Ill have to get to it one day. I am also interested in how to know if your pcv is working properly. Are there any signs to look for when logging?

I made a custom occ and I actually stuffed it with the exact same thing you did last year. Like 3 packs of those scrubbies and it works great, no smoking ever and the return line is clean. The line coming into the occ gets gunked though still so I clean it every once in a while. Never blown a dipstick so I guess its working.

Quick question, you said second. As far as i know, most go between the PCV and valve cover. If you have your valve cover going to a vented can, what is the other half of the one connected to your PCV connected to, your intake?

no no, pcv valve is located on your block, where it gets its vacuum from the engine via intake manifold. although the vent valve on the valve cover and pcv valve are both part of the pcv system, the occ on the valve cover does interact with the pcv valve at all.

if you guys are interested i can build yall one

Let me rephrase my question, and i don't know why this is just not making sense to me -_- long day at work i guess. Assuming i have one OCC rigged up as this thread demonstrates, with the valve cover being vented, where would one mount a second can, as he described?

i guess it doesn't have to go back to intake?

just valve cover to occ?

is it required to get a new tune then?

Do you think one could tie this into the " making your OCC a 3 port venturi" setup?

no vacuum only boost from the VC port? That's not at all what my Mazda Master techs have told me when I asked them about an OCC setup in the past... care to explain? Maybe I'm thinking oranges to apples..

The stoc k setup utlizes the vacuum from the turbo to draw crankcase pressure, however there is no vacuum from the vc itself. Its also not "boost" just positive pressure, although if left clogged can create enough pressure to launch the dipstick
