Default My first Dyno with no tune

Dyno numbers from today, October 24th 2009. I wish I would have Dyno's before I added the DP, but such is life. I have a Mazdaspeed 3 GT 2008, mica black, dealer installed Mazda CAI, SU rear motor mount and Cobb DP/TP with high flow cat - stock exhaust. Dyno'd at Modified by KC. See attached jpg that I scanned.

66 degress F 21% humidity

I asked for AFR - still learning about all of this but run 1 = 15.08, run 2 = 14.87, run 3 = 14.58. Most runs started at just around 14.85 at 2k rpm, down to around 12.5 at 4k rpm, then leveled off at 12 at 4200 rpm to a final of around 10 at 6400 rpm.

1st run (3rd gear) Max Power 257.67 Max Torque 258.07
2nd run (4th gear) Max Power 256.91 Max Torque 287.46
3rd run (5th gear) Max Power 255.1 Max Torque 281.30 - they let the car set for about 10 minutes to get rid of heat soak on the stock TMIC with fans on it

Fair numbers I think. I have a similar car except I have a cpe inlet and dyno'd at 230whp/280tq on a mustang dyno with no tune. Surprised it was low but enough to hang with 300whp muscle cars at autox.

Planning to tune? I'd like to get a very mild one to smooth things over, nothing crazy like 20+psi.

I do plan on getting a tune. Just depends on if I decide to invest in the Cobb AP, which I probably will for flexibility. I was going to probably get a FMIC first, still up in the air on that. I have not heard that it can hurt your MS3 if you don't get a tune with a DP installed, but I am no expert. I just think the AFR's will be more in line, better performance and mileage. I have had my Cobb DP on for 2 weeks, no problems. Right after my Dyno runs all the guys standing around were impressed, but all said I was running rich and a little more boost or tune would help allot. I am not gonna get anywhere near 20 psi, but might go up to around 18, just depends on what the tune would suggest or set it at. Car is still my semi daily driver.

saitek, you say you have a similar car? Does that mean you have the DP/TP mod installed? If so I would agree that those numbers seem a bit low, at least the WHP, torque looks good. Maybe it was the conditions at the time, or the Mustang Dyno got jealous and decided to fake the numbers down . I am dying to pull up next to an unsuspecting Mustang or Camaro ( not the GT of course )

I doubt the DP would make anything go "boom", I think it would be more about how the car is driven. Unless you start messing with boost this mod is only about 20 HP added from what I am hearing, and what I have felt and see on my Dyno. I still have the stock muffler and 1 hi flow CAT installed. sp33dy6, you already have CAI installed? I would do that first if not. I apologize for being to lazy to check your profile to see if it is listed

Not to thread jack here, but I see a couple of you and changed away from the stock inlet, you think it really helped? I know the stock one is ugly, plastic etc, and the Cobb looks so sweet, but you think it really helps with performance?

Oh, sp33dy6, have you replaced your rear MM yet? IMHO I would before putting more HP at the wheels, really helps keep the torque steer down and the wheels on the pavement ( will cost more in tires, but who gives a crap about that! ). I cannot even imagine having put the DP on before the rear mm, would really have been all over the place.

Yeah, and again, I am not tune expert, but from everthing I have read you should be fine, especially with getting a tune soon. All I have seen on these forums is the standard mods that we have like CAI, Inlet, DP/TP are ok on stock tune, better a tune for performance. Now I have seen where once you go FMIC with all these mods they do really recommend a tune. I am definitely open to opinions and suggestions on this matter.

Just cpe dp and mscbe. I think the consensus is that mustang dynos read low. My plastic inlet kept slipping off so that's why I got the cpe. I felt a very small change in power between shifts.

sp33 have you dyno'd yet? If it is handy and not to expensive you might want to as a base line before you install the DP, if nothing else for curiosity sake, then dyno again after DP and tune. If nothing else for my curiosity sake ! LOL

Thanks saitek, man I keep hearing about the loose connections on those stock ones, guess one my KC Chiefs start losing today I better take a break and go out and check mine right now, then order a COBB

Well I would consider that all I have other than your mods is the DP those numbers look about right from what I have heard. I would expect your numbers to be right around mine or maybe a bit higher with the DP installed
