these dust storms are common all around the world...more so in remote flat regions where winds can really pick-up but also common around some metropolitans where overfarming has caused widespread deforestation and errosion...

When farming in the midwest took off in the 50's, they had the same problem. It was bad for like 6 yrs across the plains. Saw it on the History channel. That red dust though adds to the effect.

We get some weird clouds in queesland. This one is a regular phenomena if far North Queensland called 'Morning Glory'. The rolling cloud can be over 1000 kms long and hangliders sometimes surf the wave. Enjoy
