Default BNR S4 on Stock Motor

Hey all

Roll raced a 5.0 yesterday, ended up blowing the seals on my shitty K04. So I can't drive the car until I get a new turbo.

Mazda wants $1,290 for a new OEM turbo, I'm not paying that much for another K04. So I'm going big turbo and was thinking of the BNR S4, since it's the same price as an OEM new and comes with all the hardware I need.

I understand it will make more power with less boost and keep pushing at higher RPMs, perfect for beating the 5.0 I was racing (it was a close race already, if I had more top end I would've had him). I'm just not sure if the stock block will be able to take it. I will have it retuned of course so perhaps I'll be good. I don't really plan on rebuilding, so I'm not sure if the S4 if worth it or if I should just get the S3.

Also, I had one more question, it says it has a 3.5" inlet. Will I need to get a new intake too or will my Stage II SRI from Corksport still fit? I'm not sure how much the K04's inlet was.

You need a bigger inlet or at the very least a coupler to 3.5, the stock intake is 2.5-6ish. You'd be fine on stock block as long as the tuner knows what he is doing... That turbo would appreciate a new 3inch downpipe too

Yes I am going TR8 FMIC and 3" catless downpipe. What intake would you recommend that's 3.5"? Does Corksport offer a 3.5"?

To me, S4 is slightly much on stock block... you'll lose a good amount of spool and not be able to fully utilize it's potential. S3 will spool faster, closer to stock, and have more topend than k04. or CS, which is what i went with, spools closer to S3 but with topend closer to S4. great stock block option, IMO.

To @sharksinspace; point, I went s3, only because I knew I wouldn't be able to max the s4 reliably

Sounds like I should go for the S3 since I won't be rebuilding. Saves me some $$ too.
