Default tip really worth it?

There are lots of intakes out that bolt straight to the turbo, and make good gains over stock. But is the tip really worth it i mean i dont see the point, im personally gona be buying the k&n intake, but i see/hear people buying the tip and then they have to buy a sri, which now at this point is basically a housing for the maf and a filter, maybe a airflow straightner. So unless im missing something here what is the point. Once you buy a aftermarket intake rather it be a cai, or sri. You allready replaced the restrictive system that came stock. or is it simply so you can say i have a "insert brand name here" tip, and a "insert brand name here" cai/sri?

not necessary. beneficial? yes. I won't sit here and lecture you why, but if you look at your stock TIP..it is a mess of bends and turns that restrict air flow..compare that to a smooth 2.5inch pipe, and it does the explaining itself.

The Turbo Inlet Pipe, in theory, should be better than stock. If you consider the nasty mess of a design the stock pipe is, it "should" be better. Personally, I think an aftermarket TIP just makes more noise. It doesn't feel any different on my car than I did with just the Cobb SRI by itself. And i've ran the PG Inlet and now the Cobb Inlet.

The more we learn about this car, the more it seems like the stock parts are truely made for a very particular reason. For example, my car lost some power down low when I replaced the stock 2.5" with a mazdaspeed 3" catback. 2.5" is totally sufficient exhaust piping. The stock bpv actually reacts the best to slower speeds and casual driving.

The very best mod you can do, is the intake. Huge increase in power and torque, really wakes the car up. But i'd leave the rest alone. Ultimately, it's all in your head. You enjoy the power increase with the intake, and start researching more ways to find MORE power. Just leave it as is and have a ton of fun with it!

IMHO...not worth it. Why spend the money to make something theoretically more benificial to your car...The intake alone (K&N - What I have is a GREAT increase In TQ). I have heard people "claiming" 3ish HP with the addition of the TIP...and the general consensus is that is makes the stock turbo louder. I personally like the sound of my car that the K&N provides, but to each his own.

de gustibus non est disputandum

Lots of guys are commenting on the noise with the inlet pipe... It really depends what material the inlet pipe is made out of. I've got the Cobb one which is made from silicone and it actually made my turbo a bit quieter and the blow-off a lot quieter. I like it with the TIP better.

Well, it starts with the tip, but you eventually can't resist going deeper.

Then one day you wake up with a Big Turbo and a 10k engine build. And that shit is hard to treat.

no its not. one of the last mods to buy. there arent any gains with with tip, just slightly smoother air flow.

buy a TP if you dont have one. you will have gains with it

i think its worth it.
sure, it doesnt give u as much hp gain as an intake or a downpipe or an intercooler.... but the turbo does spool quicker, and it lets people know you got a turbo when u go on the gas.
its not that expensive, I say its worth it. it all depends on what your plans are.
Id say its more worth than a silly BOV, which a bunch of people get just for the sound... not to mention they are more expensive than a TIP

Any aftermarket tip is better than the weird shaped stock tip..the stock looks likes it was designed that way just to make it fit..n the clamp is loose as hell..is it worth changing it to an aftermarket one? Sure y not..especially if u have an extra $80-$100 laying ground which u have no idea on what to spend it with.

I actually went K&N when they were going for stupid cheap, saved $50+, and used it towards a test pipe. Even the CP-E Nano is $40 less than that, So that's the way I'd go if I had to do it all over again.

I'd only consider a TIP down the road if I found out the stock one was leaking. Or if I went with a PTP SST or BNR stage 2. Yeah, stock turbo is too small, but I wouldn't want to go over 300 whp in a fwd car. And that's with as many anti-torque steer measures as I can think of (quaife, revoknuckle, upgraded mounts, etc.) But going upgraded turbo or if the stocker is leaking are the only circumstances I'd personally look into one.

But again, they make the turbo louder so you may want it for reasons other than performance. YMMV.

Hell, over low-200's is considered pretty insane by most people, and we're putting down 225-235 whp stock.
