Default Did you install your lowering springs or a shop?

Just curious if the people who have lowered their car if you had a shop do it or if you did it yourself? If you had a shop do it how much did it cost? So far I have been quoted around $400.

$400 for a spring install? That is crazy. I did the springs on my Camaro myself, but the ones on my old Gen1 I had done since I sold my spring compressor, and I think I payed about $150.

Not to be a dick but I think if you have to ask this question, a shop maybe the place to do it.
If you feel comfortable enough just do it yourself. The rear spring replacement on these cars are a price of cake! The spring isn't connected to the strut so.... U only have to take off like 4 bolts to replace both springs... 14 bolts including the lugnuts lol

So you could just do the rears yourself and take it to a shop for the fronts to get it done cheaper

I have a friend who has done things like this before and he said he could do the rear butthe front he would need a spring compressor and he does not have access to one. $400 seemed a little high to me but they tell me it will take around 3-4 hours and that price also includes the alignment.

you can rent a spring compressor from advance or autozone..its 50 bucks then when you return it you get monies back.
i did it, was fairly easy..and i suck at cars. find someone in your area to help, makes for good time and save 380 bucks (buy beer for celebration of successful install!)

edit: your location says OC. I don't know what that is, but there is bound to be someone on this forum from around your area...

I have done the springs in this car not too long ago. Its really a piece of cake. I would do it yourself or even grab a buddy to help you along. The rears can be out in no time. I took all the wheels off and jacked the whole car up. did the rears first and was done those in 30-45 mins. The fronts of course take a little longer to do as you need a spring compressor to compress the spring so you can loosen the bolts on top of the tower.

I suggest that you get yourself a pair of spring compressor from harbor frieght and go from there. I also had air tool to help me get this done faster but you definintely do not need them as that how I lowered my previous car. I would plan out an entire weekend to get this accomplished. I even think there is a thread that shows all of the install steps for this.

Do it yourself, or find someone cheaper. I've been on both sides with several different cars. I paid $125 for someone to do it on my saturn and I did the ones on my civic and RX-7. You'll feel better if you spend a Saturday doing it yourself.

With or witout my son helping, takes 2.5hours for just springs. rears about 15-20 mins, Fronts longer, But I dont have my compressor hooked up, so i use a breaker bar with my compressors. takes liek 20-30 mins longer than if i had air for the clamps.

400 for a shop cause the books call for about 3.5-4 hours on the books.

If you dont want to replace the front springs (very dangerous to do for someone without experience doing them), just remove the mcpherson strut assembely from the car and take it to a shop with a spring compressor (on that mounts of the wall - found those to work well)... Shouldnt charge you more than $20 for each one - maybe 50 at best. (I still think this is expensive but labor costs are never low). Then just replace the rest w/ nuts and bolts!

Then get an alignment because mcpherson strut cars don't like to stay in alignment
