Default Can't Hit Boost Targets in 1st or 2nd Gear

So yeah any ideas? 1st and 2nd gear is off by about 1.5 psi.

All obvious tables are correct.

Throttle - Req. Load Norm BAT is set to 3
Boost Error comp is as follows...0.06 0.04 0.02 0.00 0.00 0.00 -0.02 -0.14 -0.22 -0.44 -1.10
APP Translation Tables are all the same.

Well, your boost error is kinda of weak and should be more aggressive. Also, the engine is under lower load in those gears, and it might be hard to hit a high target.
rfinkle2 and deadlandxtreme like this.

I've been using the following BEC comp table and it is working very well.

(along with 25-50% of ots LEC)

.08...... .03 <0> -.03 ..... -.08 (horizontally interpolated)

I've tried bumping up BEC in the past but it tends to create small boost spikes. I'm beginning to think 1st and 2nd gear are very limited as far as how much boost you can push (as G26 has stated).

Dunno how well the OTS BEC table works on the gen2, but in my gen1 I was constantly underboosting with the overboost side skewed like that. I set mine similar to rfinkle's but less authoritative...I think something like:

.05 .03 .01 .00 0 .00 -.01 -.03 -.05

This works well for me with well calibrated WGDC. I'm always within .4psi of my target.

In my tuning adventure in my black gen2, I rarely hit full boost targets in 1st and 2nd. As soon as I hit 3rd gear I would get to target quickly.

I'll try messing around with the boost error comp tables again but I think the oem EBC is not quick enough to hit 20 psi 1st or 2nd gear.

Remove the EBC, I guarantee you will hit more than 20psi in any gear.

You must really have that wgdc dialed in then.

I have yet to get decent boost control without using that table.

@rfinkle2

My load error comp is also zeroed, along with using much more aggressive boost error gets me the stable consistent boost you see in my logs.

My boost error table goes something like this

0.40 0.30 0.20 0.12 0.06 0 the overboost side mirrors that. My ebcs is in 2port

No doubt that your map and self tune is on point.

I like to use the load error comp tables because I can be fancy and call it a hybrid tune. LOL.

They must pick up the slack for the difference in authority for the more aggressive bec table you run.

I can hit 26psi in 1st,2nd,3rd, and 4th gear...No its not good for the turbo yes its bad etc etc, but my car will do it. Under the BOOST section of ATR, check your Boost Come:1-2 gear and see if it is at 1.0 or if it less than 1.0. If it is less than your targets will not be met as the car is commanding less. Just a thought.

I would agree with the others here. Raise ur BEC and see how it changes things.

If u do get undesirable results (spikes as u mentioned when u tried it before) and run out of ideas, last ditch effort, I would go back and actually try increasing Boost compensation for 1&2.

Depending on where u are and what ur targeting, increase the percentage appropriately.
So if your off by 1.8psi and ur targeting 18psi, increase by 1.8/18 = 0.1 (10%)
so change the 1 (100%) to 1.1 (110%) and see what happens.

Phate may be correct with SWAS as well. 1st and 2nd generate a descent amount of torque steer which will impact your boost as fuel is richened and timing is pulled.

It's the torque steer sensor that limits boost if it senses the car getting out of control, if I'm not mistaken. Not sure what SWAS actually stands for though.

Steering wheel angle sensor. The most intrusive system we have in our car, it seems.

Intrusive....fuck this little electronic piece of shit. It is downright dangerous in my book having that on the car. I wish COBB could work a solution for us that allowed full retention of the electronic power steering. This is my number 1 wish aside from bigger injectors at this point in time.

If it was the SWAS wouldn't it only be an issue while turning the wheel? This issue is very consistant...doesn't matter if I'm driving in a straight line or turning.

Thanks for all the input.

Thanks for all the input.
The swas sometimes affects things even when driving straight, but getting torque steer.

^^ what he said. I dont ussually hit my full boost target in 1st or 2nd because traction is such a problem, 3rd gear is the gear!

SWAS can cause issues even when driving straight.
