Some quick Noobish ATR questions.

Hello everyone, I got a few quick noobish ATR questions that are difficult to find using the search feature. I might get beat up for this, but I am willing to risk it. :scared1:

1. Assuming that your MAF is properly calibrated, how soon can you start taking proper logs after you flash a new map?

2. While logging, how much does factors such as the incline (on/offramp), potholes, hitting brakes due to other drivers on road, bumps, time of day/temperature(High BATs), extra passengers, leaving the AC on, affect your log?

3. How many logs should I make before making any changes to the MAP (especially in regards to reducing knocks)?

4. What is the benefit of increasing timing instead of increasing boost?

5. Why is it beneficial to lower the boost after 6K rpms instead of keeping it steady to redline?

6. Does anyone have a few logs on 91 Octane with the following mods (So I can compare):
Intake, TIH, TMIC, Race Pipe, Catback, 1 Step Colder Plugs, BPV?

Thanks for any help and I will understand any flak I get for this. :wink1:

1) If your trims were within an accepted range after settling on your previous map and you have made no maf changes, anywhere from +/-8 (least strict I've seen / per Cobb) down to a more stringent +/-3, no need to wait.
2) potholes and sharp imperfections in the road could potentially cause KR, high bat's are more prone to cause KR on pump gas, logging driving hard with the AC on is kinda like throwing with your left hand when you are right handed, imo
3) If you are seeing KR in more than 2 logs in the same RPM and load range, it is time to investigate KR through raising your octane / isolating where your knock is coming from.
4) Depends on where in the rev band you are, but boost and timing should be used together in order to make power. username Bucker has a thread devoted specifically to this topic.
5) 5,000 rpm's is more crucial in terms of rising bat's on the k04. It is beneficial to keep the turbo happy in terms of copressor wheel speed and the lbs/ per air a turbo can move.

Thanks for clarifying rfinkle, this tuning thing isn't as daunting as I thought it would be.

Just trying to get the most out of the sucky California Pump gas. :frown:

There's an e85 station in Norwalk, on San Antonio and Firestone. Near rosecrans

is it the 76 down there?? i know there is a 76 station that sells 100 octane race gas over there as well. its pretty much where the 5fwy passes through.

Theres one in Duarte Rami

i dont go through there every day, i usually take the 605/5/110 fwy's but only jump on 210/605 if there is something happening on the other route i take. but either way i dont want to run E85. i like to keep the car simple and be able to fill it up at any place i go.
