Default Tune almost finished but having small issue

Attached is a log giving an example. This only occurs if I start a pull below 3500.

Is it normal for the WG duty to spike above its target like it does? Its understand the psi to spike but why is it falling so far below target when it compensates? Never used to do this but I just recently turned the boost up beyond 20psi.

What can I change to remove, reduce the effects?

WG duty cycle targets (2500-7000)
70 71.00 75.00 81.00 88.00 97.00 100.00 100.00 100.00 100.00

Boost Targets (2500-7000)
14.00 20.00 20.50 20.50 20.00 19.00 18.50 17.00 16.50 16.50

ztnedman1... What fuel are you running and do you have your knock sensor enabled past 5500 rpm?

Make closer to zero the overboost side of the BEC table by 25%. Sounds like you are having boost oscillations (over-compensation) when the boost spikes. Tweaking the overboost side of the BEC can fix this.

Also your WGDC values at 2500 and 3000 are very high.... but again it depends on the fuel you are running. Try lowering them.

I'm assuming you are doing a pure boost tune (aka your LEC is zeroed out).... if you are using load values listen to the other guys and please ignore me.

This is a pure boost tune. I am using E25. I dont think I have a very strong turbo or wastegate spring. Turbo doesnt smoke at all but since day one it has not been very strong without high WG duty.

Most of my <3000rpm values came from the OTS stage 2 map. WG dynamics should be set up according to albitors guide.

Boost error ramp limiter high = 15%

Boost error ramp low = -100%

Boost error comp:
0.10 0.09 0.08 0.07 0.06 0.00 -0.06 -0.11 -0.22 -0.44 -1.10

WG duty RPM comp A = -20% throughout

WG duty rpm comp B = 10% throughout

The < 3000 values may be what is causing the overboost as well. All of the suggestions in this thread are possibilities.

You can see the wgdc ramp up, overcorrect, and then reactivate.

If it were me, I would set a value of 50 from 500 - 3000 rpm's and allow the boost error comp table to bring the boost up to targets.

If it's within your budget, I would also suggest getting a 3-port EBCS from Grimmspeed or Cobb. That was some of the best money I've ever spent. Improved response, lower WGDC, and helped solve my spike at spool issues. Fine-tuning it is much easier than the stock EBCS.

Does this mean that your Load Dynamics and Load Error Comp tables are zero'd out? rfinkle is right - your WG Duty is set too high for RPM <= 3000. Once I get home from work, I will look into your log a bit more.

Also, skeurton is right on. Drop the $115 and buy a Cobb or Grimmspeed EBCS and run it in 3 port mode. That will help you out a whole lot.

I took a closer look at your log and there's some weird stuff going on. First take a look at this graph:

I've plotted your logged boost and WG Duty versus the values you provided from your ATR tables. You'll notice that you barely overboost around 3300RPM. However, the car has already started pulling WG Duty command and overall lowers it by about 20 ppts. This causes your boost to drop about 2psi below what is commanded. Then things slowly start to regulate.

Here's a graph of the boost error and wg compensation:

It is even clearer in this graph that the car pulls WG duty cycles long before your boost goes over targets.

You are missing a few few variables in your log. I'd really like to see your throttle position and your calculated load. My guess is that your load dynamics and load error comp tables aren't zero'd out, and you went over your target load so the car started to respond.

Would it be possible for you to take another log and add those two variables? Also please check your map to see what your load dynamics and LEC tables look like.
rfinkle2 If there is anything I am missing (or if I am incorrect) please chime in

Fin A dude. nice post! econman

Here is a list of all the "load based" tables under WG dynamics:
1. WG duty baro error comp
0.00 -0.02 -0.20 -0.30 -0.60 -1.40
2. WG duty load dynamics (fine)
0 everywhere
3. WG duty load error comp(coarse)
10.00 4.38 2.50 1.25 0.00 -2.50 -5.00 -8.76 -12.52 -25.04 -50.08
4. WG load error ramp limit high
12%
5. WG load error ramp low
-100%
6. WG duty throttle close
Matrix table

My questions is what of these need to be zeroed?

Ill add Throttle and Load back into the logs and take one tomorrow.

Requested loads are 2.3 from 3k plus for all the gears with normal BATs
Max loads are 2.5+ and the fuel cut loads are at 5, just in case they make any difference

I almost bought one a couple months ago but alot of posts made it seem it wasn't nessesary. Ill order the grimspeed today.

Its the WG Duty Load Error Comp table that's very likely causing your issues. For a pure boost tune, zero out that table (also to be safe, zero out your WG duty baro comp table as well).

Take a look at this thread (http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/foru...ml#post1009814) this will help you setup your RPM Comp A|B tables when you go pure boost tune.

Post your 4th gear throttle req load NORMAL values...if those are set to low, and your current boost is causing you to go over this load, it will limit your car. Its an easy fix Also, you will need a grimmspeed...you are maxed out for far too long. Take another 4th gear log with throttle position and calc load checked to show in logs as well. Then post up
