Default Build options. SP/FJ or local?

I am finally ready to get a build underway and don't really know what route to take. I had originally decided to just go with SP for peace of mind in that I know theyve done tons of mzr builds and sort of wrote everything else off.

I've recently started entertaining the idea of just finding a reputable machine shop to do the honing and checking and balancing and reassembling which just from lazy shopping around would save about $1000.

I just don't know how reputable a shop needs to be or how easy it is to screw it up which is why I had originally just planned to skip wondering and just go straight to a trusted builder.

SP is suggesting their stage 2 long block with mild porting on both sides of the head based on my goal of 600whp safely. Roughly $4800. Haven't talked to Fj directly but their shortblock is priced and spec'd more or less identical to SPs stage 2 shortblock with manley H+ beams instead of H tuffs.

Budget is $5000 and whatever If anything is leftover will go towards a southbend clutch instead of an act.

Originally I was in the air on letting a reputable machine shop handle the block and have a friend of mine with a shop assemble the shortblock and build the stock port head with Supertech parts but after adding up my 700whp+ capable build I decided to just go with FJ for peace of mind with their 1,000whp Capable longblock. Good luck with the decision man!
