The design of this Gen2 MAZDASPEED3 Cat-back Exhaust focused on three specific areas; reduced back-pressure for increased power potential, compliance with sound regulations when used in a full turbo-back exhaust system, and eye-popping styling. The final product is an over-achiever!



The layout of this COBB 3” SS Cat-back was chosen to minimize the total bend degrees used to route the exhaust piping for reduced backpressure. The entire system fits within the factory exhaust path to allow the exhaust to be tucked up as close to the undercarriage as possible to achieve maximum ground clearance. Exhaust piping is 3” diameter from the downpipe to the split, where dual 2.5” pipes whisk the exhaust out of the system. The resulting path of least resistance minimizes back-pressure for maximum power gains.

Harsh engine exhaust noise is subdued via one primary resonator and two secondary resonators. These large chambered resonators provide sound reduction without adding restriction to the exhaust flow. The resulting mellow rumble sounds and feels powerful, without being overbearing. This exhaust was designed to meet the 95dB sound restriction even when used as part of a full turbo-back exhaust system.

Significant effort went into making this exhaust look as good as it sounds and performs. All three oval cross-section resonators are finished with rolled end-caps and beautiful welds. The 3” stainless steel piping has a satin finish while the entire rear section is fully polished for a stunning appearance. The exhaust is finished with 4” slash-cut, single-wall rolled tips with laser etched COBB logos. The entire kit is constructed of T304 stainless steel to ensure that it stays looking this great for years to come.

This cat-back exhaust will work with the stock or any direct factory replacement downpipe. The two bolt flanges allow slight adjustability for absolutely perfect fitment. Includes all gaskets and hardware, and uses the stock doughnut gasket to mate to the downpipe.

When i saw the Gen 1 catback selling for $725, i was thinking the price is reasonable and worth to wait for the Gen 2 come out. Now it finally comes out but with almost $1200, I can get a catback+IC for that price.

This video was shot with the full COBB turbo-back exhaust system. Vehicles with the factory downpipe will not be as loud.

Out of curiosity on the sound level. Which SAE standard did you guys use to verify that it meets the 95 dB requirement, and would you be willing to provide a pretty signed paper stating that with purchase?

for those wondering about the Cobb FMIC (like I was):

As far as the FMIC Kit, we keep having issues with our suppliers on the intercooler cores and so this continues to push back the release of the kit. Unfortunately, we do not have any dates for availability on the FMIC Kit

Okay, probably going to get groaned for this, but I'll ask anyway: it doesn't specify in the description, but it does say that it mates with a stock downpipe. So that leads me to believe that this would include a 2nd cat delete testpipe as part of this set-up.

If that's the case I could almost justify the price for it if it's got the second cat removed so that there is an actual airflow/performance boost out of it. No way I can swallow $1100 dollars for pure aesthetic purposes. (Yes I know, CBEs don't give performance boosts, but a testpipe does help so if this includes it I could possibly justify this sound to myself if there is even a nugget of benefit in there somewhere).

TL;DR this is a FIRST cat-back exhaust?

Its a cat back only.

Its made to attach to the second cat or the Cobb DP which replaces both cats with a single high flow one.
