Just chiming in...

I've had them all: JSpeed (good but not short enough), TWM (DISASTER), and now JBR. And while I'm not fond of the post being so high on the assembly, I cannot deny that my shifts have reduced drastically and it's a fun car to drive once again..

The install took me less than 10 minutes (most of which was removing my SRI so I could get a clear path to the shift assembly). Everything bolted right up, tested well, and drove great. No need to mess with my shifter inside the console, however I'm sure I'll tinker with it when the weekend comes and I have some time.

By far the best 80$ I've spent this year, (and I've spent a lot of 80$ lol).

Hats off to Jamie for making a product that actually works.

Now if TWM would give me my refund, all would be well. Something about "sending a check to you once you pull down your threads on MSF".

beh

Jamie,
I just recieved my SSP from you. Beautiful work man, thanks for putting out such a quality product, and taking the time to package it so nicely. The effort that you put in really shows.

I do not have a Mazdaspeed 3 and i was looking into buying a short shifter... Any possible way this will work for a normal Mazda3?

It's definitely a nice piece Jamie, and lightning delivery speed...now if only Corksport would get their shit straight and list an item when it's backordered...my SRI would be here already and I could go ahead and install this badboy

Yeah me too, but Derrick called me a few days ago and said that alot of the backorders changed their color choice from black to red (red is what i ordered)...so I'm waiting for them to get some Red silicone in. Hopefully they get here before my KW V2's Coilovers come in(June 9th)...if not I'll just go CP-E Nano.

I did an experiment where I put the stock weight on with the plate - mistake, IMO. Shifts did not feel as crisp and had this quality to the where it felt like the shifter was rubbing against cardboard when I moved it.

Don't know why the shifter weight is there, I assume it's to achieve some mechanical advantage or smooth out shifts.

When the short shift plate is installed the radius of the shifter arm is reduced and the arm now moves faster. The weight I provide is lighter than the stock weight. The reason for the lighter weight is with the stock weight you will get a clunk/bang when going in to gear and some rebound as well. Never use the stock weight. If you're looking to improve the feel and ease of shifting a heavy shift knob will do the trick and they look cool too.

Thanks,
Jamie

Any knob over 600g will be good. I have E4 knobs with new coatings coming in Thursday. $65 shipped.

^ A big +1, I ordered an e4 shift knob - biggest improvement in shift feel I've put on the car so far. That and adjusting the feel of the shifter both made massive improvements.

not just the weight but also make sure the knob fits your style of shifting. if your an overhand guy(hand on top of the knob) a round knob will work well. if you are an open palm guy (hold the knob around the middle of it (kinda like ur jerking it) something like the type r or the piston is a good fit. and anything over like 400 grams is going to make a difference IMO

I get the same thing. 2nd gear has always been the most clunky in this car though

If your getting vibrations down shifting in to 2nd you're going to fast for the gear and/or not rev matching.

Thanks,
Jamie

I figured that. Must not be as noticeable with the stock shifter. It just startled me the first time i hear it.

Thanks for the great product and support. the SSP and bushings definitely makes a night and day difference. Best mod yet.

Just a question, I have the TWM short shifter kit on my mazdaspeed 3. I keep hearing about your product and was wondering what makes it different than the TWM. I had a hard time shifting into third gear and thought that i just needed a RMM. Its better than stock but still sometimes have a hard time getting into third gear when i rev it high

twm = short shifter, JBR is a short shift plate, it realigns the shifter linkage in the engine bay, this changes the geometry and shortens the throw

TWM also lowers the height of the actual shifter in the cabin doesnt it? JBR SSP just shortens the throw like speed_freak says

You can adjust the gate alignment to improve the issue with 3rd with your TWM STS.

See the "Fine Tuning" instructions @ Jamiesplanet.com

Thanks!!

The answer is yes. But be prepared for very short throws. You will also need to adjust the gate alignment of the shifter. I like it combined with the TWM. It's a personal preference.

Thanks,
Jamie

I just read in another forum about this plate that a guy asked if this plate will work with a SS kit. Your response was no and it was too stiff plus undriveable. So why do you say it will work with the TWM SS kit?
