jbr bushing install observation

well i was installing my bushings today and realizes a couple things. the first being, you do not need to remove the two kick panels in the first step of the instructions. i skipped this all together and was fine. i had these bushings on my gen 1 as well and never knew if i felt that much of a difference.

well, i looked at the stock metal sleeve and noticed one was bent out of shape pretty bad. if anyone is wondering about the effectiveness of these bushings, here is a picture of what may already have happened to the weak stock bushings... my car only has 2500 miles on it.
the top sleeve in each shot. when looking at the shifter cage, this was the bottom left sleeve. hope this helps someone

brand new car here and i think this may be the culprit i heard last night while getting on it

SLOWHATCH 04-14-2012 07:01 PM

Weird. Looks like they are all different. I didn't notice that with mine.

gearhead750 04-14-2012 07:08 PM

How much improvement did you notice with the JBR bushings?

SLOWHATCH 04-14-2012 07:45 PM

Not much really at least on my car I didn't notice any drastic changes. But I think its worth it. I think the jbr are the cheapest and they all do the same thing.

shit mine came out like the op's and it was a crazy change when installing

Keko 04-14-2012 08:24 PM

I just looked at mine I still have them, they look the same.

I have 2 with bigger holes, 1 with a smaller hole, and 1 with an oval like yours. Maybe its supposed to be like this?

uncorked11 04-14-2012 08:50 PM

Or its forces applied when sprited driving causing the bending. All 4 of mine were more long then round.

Vinnie 04-15-2012 01:05 AM

2 should be big round and 2 should be small round... the long oval ones are from stresses. like i said these aren't a drastic change, but... seeing as the stock ones were already giving way, i feel like they are a worth while mod (very cheap)

For me when you had jbr short shifter plate 2nd and 3rd gear felt notchy
with the bushings felt more soild smooth but other then that nothing really

Keko 04-15-2012 08:54 AM

Wow I guess the stock bushings are really weak, mine only had ~1700 miles when I put them in.

SLOWHATCH 04-19-2012 08:54 PM

I'm thinking it's actually normal and they are supposed to look that way. Or at least come that way from the factory. Mine and another local's bushings look the same. FWIW.

jeopardy98 04-19-2012 09:04 PM

Mine looked the same as well. I'm pretty sure one of them is oval from the factory.

Dubcnea 05-03-2012 08:56 PM

here are mine...300 miles on the car when i changed them. the japanese must know something that we don't. the ones on my 3 GT were also shaped as such. this is the pattern when they are in the cage, looking down. that oval shaped one and the different sized holes...fuckin weird.
