Default Is my car going to blow up?

Hi guys! Pretty new to these forums, I just got my 2010 ms3 in September. It came with an intake, a blowoff valve, and a test pipe as far as I know. I just got an AP and loaded a stage 1 tune. and my hpfp reading is mid-high 1700's with boost around 15. Based on this, can you tell if my fuel pump internals have been upgraded? Are there any other mods I should be running with the AP to avoid problems? Any preventative maintenance I should do to avoid problems? Please give me all the advice you have!

This first post is textbook. You've ticked all the boxes. Well done.

Same as what has been said for years, only way to really know for sure is to pull the HPFP and physically check the internals. Otherwise you are just guessing.

At your 15psi boost levels, you are not going to tell if they are installed or not.

Why is that? If the boost was a different number would that make it obvious they had been installed?

I guess people don't know how to search now a days. Most if not all questions can be answered by searching. To answer your question, there is no way to tell if your internals are stock or not without taking it out.

You know, I really did search a bunch of things to try to figure it out because I knew people like you would tell me it's already been answered but I honestly just don't know enough about this yet to be able to look at another thread where someone is describing what mods they have on their car and know how the advice given would be different if applied to my car with my specific mods. So to avoid having my car blow up because I was too afraid to ask, I figured id just ask. 👍🏻

@Madison; you're going to need to open up your HPFP to be able to see if it has upgraded internals. I've said this a few times, but it's just a matter of WHEN it'll fail.

So I guess I need to know how big of a deal this is like do I need to run home and open it up this weekend to be sure? Or worst case if I don't get around to it and it fails is my engine then blown up? Or would it just be a matter of replacing it and everything would be okay?

As long as you don't go pedal to the metal and WOT all the time you'll be fine. You really should get that taken care of soon tho. Genpu is not as tolerant as genjuan once you start putting flow mods (intake, test pipe)

Okay thank you! Also what's your opinion on gas catch can and boost control? Someone told me I should get those but I'm not too sure. Alsooo should I upgrade spark plugs/check if they've been upgraded? What about coil packs? Should I just wait for those things to go out before I do anything?

Oil* catch can; good for keeping the valves cleaner.
Car already has a factory EBCS; not a main point of upgrade on stock turbo unless you break the OEM piece.

@Madison;, it is impossible to determine from any readings on the AP (much less datalogs) whether the HPFP internals have been upgraded. The OEM internals can hit over 2000psi, and so can aftermarket HPFP internals.

Literally the only way to determine what is inside the pump is to physically remove the pump from the vehicle, dismantle it, and check what's inside.

And then there's me. The first mod I did to my car was fuel pump internals because I logged fuel pressure dips to about 13-1400 psi at WOT when my pu was bone stock using Torque Pro...didn't even have an AP at the time.

Your best bet is to reach out to someone in your area (go into one of the nator regional forums on the boards and ask for help there) to help you take the fuel pump apart. It is really easy with a second pair of experienced hands. As a girl you shouldn't have too much trouble recruiting assistance.

a hole in your block... higher boost = more fuel.... if the internals can’t hold it the pressure will drop, you will lean out and it will become quite obvious that you don’t have upgraded internals... it takes about 1 hour to remove, inspect and refit..... the how-to’s are on this site...

I didn't see it explicitly said but if you increase boost, you need more fuel. You also run the risk of KR which tells the ECU to add fuel and run richer. Flow mods like intake and test pipes usually increase boost. I didn't see where you are from, but colder weather also can increase boost and airflow, needing more fuel. The problem with just monitoring fuel is by the time the fuel pressure drops, it can be too late. Checking and replacing the HPFP internals is the safest thing you can do. It probably doesn't need to be done before you drive more, but try not to race too many Mustangs before you do :-)

Otherwise, changing the oil with a good oil (I choose Rotella) more than regularly I feel is the other best preventative medicine for these cars.

I'm not a big fan of gas catch cans or oil catch cans (they are supposed to catch the blow by oil and keep it out of the intake and valves), and wouldn't think you should need one at your level. As far as a boost controller, your AP does that as pointed out earlier.

I'm a believer in pay it forward, so.....

I can see where you are coming from as without much knowledge this forum can be overwhelming. You really do need to study what everything is. These cars are fun little rockets but without knowing simple stuff, I suggest you don't do any more mods.

If you want help don't ask questions like will my car blow up. What you can do is learn how to do a data log and have people look at your log. However, a better option would be to physically open the fuel pump, and verify if it is upgraded or not. Then, pay a etuner to tune your car.

Also, from your description I can tell your car is going to explode. I would stop driving immediately. /s

OP: pull your hpfp and check, the gen2 ms3 don't even like having just an intake on without upgraded hpfp internals. However given that they're showing 1700psi you're probably fine, my upgraded internals show 2000psi under wot to give you an idea.

Hahaha that is one of the reasons I made sure to change my avatar to one that was actually me before posting this because I KNEW everyone would assume I was a guy and just roast me without helping me at all!

I guess you're just gonna have to trust me haha. I'd post my last name so you could find me on Facebook but then, judging by this thread, I'd just get a ton of friend requests from randoms hahah.

See I don't have a Facebook so you're safe there. Guess I'd just have to ask for your number. Or IG name works too.

OP: pull your hpfp and check, the gen2 ms3 don't even like having just an intake on without upgraded hpfp internals. However given that they're showing 1700psi you're probably fine, my upgraded internals show 2000psi under wot to give you an idea.
Okay so I should still pull them and check, but they're probably not upgraded but also probably not on the verge of failure. Right?

The thing about the OEM internals is you never know when they're going to fail, they just do. No signs or symptoms before they go. Definitely need to pull them.

Thank you for being understanding! Thanks for the advice as well, I'll do that.
