As far as design is concerned. Especially around any sights or tubes, minimize the use of dissimilar metals or brittle plastics as the thermal range and corresponding expansion and contraction will eventually lead to failure.

The sight tube will be glass and everything else will be aluminum. I also plan to play with baffling to make sure the coolant stays where we need it. Our test MS3 sees autocross days so sloshing would not be a good thing.

Thanks for the help!

I would rock the black tank. I will keep my eyes peeled for when released. Hopefully before Mazfest or at least SEMA.

Glass TUBE?

What kind of glass is gonna be used?

Better be some high quality borosilicate.

Even then, one tap with a tool or something at the right temp and all your coolant comes pissing out?

Not the best idea unless you guys have figured out how to make in un breakable? Or will be using a very thick walled boro tube.

Put a dipstick on the cap lol.

But in all seriousness it would probably work...

That said, it would be less than convenient...

In my mind, there are currently two different sight options. A glass tube (See Corksport OCC) and a porthole (See post #19 from UnknownSuperhero)

I think it would be better with a porthole design for two reasons:

1.) The porthole would be less susceptible to incidental contact inside the engine compartment.

2.) The porthole design would not be subject to clogging and, I believe, less susceptible to haze buildup

One major limitation of a porthole design would be light. You would need to open the lid to allow enough light in to see the fluid level or add another porthole in the top to allow light in.

Is the porthole design still being considered? @

You could just put a small glass piece in the lid. If the cap is ~2" across, then put a like ~1 1/4" window in it...Light problem solve-ed...lol...or maybe not.

That would never hold up to the temp and heat cycles. It will be likely a high pressure glass port hole to know where the coolant is. Plastic might work in mild climates but not in a lot of the US. I've ordered some parts and will test them. I will update the outcome.

The glass port is similiar to what we use in our thermal fluid plant (steam generation). They are used for sight glasses to know the level of the hot oil. They see temps as high as 550 degrees F.

What about a sweet triangular porthole window in the angled piece near the passenger headlight? It would probably drive the cost up too much I'm guessing?

Very expensive. If I want anyone to buy these I have to keep them simple.

This actually works better than I though it would. This is just the idea. The final product should look better.

kritz, Koke382 and The Nut like this.

This forum is an endless treasure trove, I'm really blown away by the amount of high quality aftermarket support for this car. Now that I know the stock tank is failure prone (learned something new right there) I'd definitely wanna get one of these at some point.

Black looks great, would be my color choice.

something like this

Seems I'm a little late to add my input but regardless it's beautiful and I'm glad someone finally got around to doing this!

If it is NOT too late however, then I would like to suggest integrating the power steering reservoir into the design. I'm a big fan of the kill two birds with one stone philosophy and would gladly buy that.

Brydon@CorkSport - While Im sure most of us appreciate the R&D and quality prodution, do you all have any sort of ETA as to when these might be available for purchase? Even a ballpark would be sufficient.
Thank you for the help.

You say this will work for all the mazda, and mazdaspeed 3's? Verifying this would be greatly appreciated.

I've already gone through 1 coolant tank and I doubt this next one will hold up much longer, I can speak from experience with these plastic coolant tanks they fade, and crack especially when you start generating heat from added performance with these cars.

Does cork sport plan to use same pressure rating for the cap, 21psi stock or will there be different available caps?

Well we can take this even one step further and integrate a methanol reservoir on the other side the possibility is endless when you remove the crappy oem tanks and shape the alumn.

Id like to see these things quick to market so i can raffle them off.

Agreed, it would clean up the whole left side nicely and would personally justify the cost bit more for me.

I think it will be a few months before we are done with enough to sell. I added some baffling and shortened the box to fit more models of cars. The price should be around ~$150. Trying to make it cheaper but the amount of labor is cost prohibitive.
