It's really good. I actually loved the tune I had on the k04, because of the instant tq so I was a little worried about slower spool, but it's hardly even noticeable. And I don't miss the k04 at all. If you drove my car for the first time, you wouldn't even know that it was heavily modded. Drives perfect. Haha

My drive ability didn't change until I took out my VCTS and then it only for about a mile that the car doesn't want to go when cold

I would like to do another IM port job and put the vcts back in to see how it performs.

It's only for like the first few min it acts up. If you warm it up to close to 130 it drives alright. But now that it's cold and the five min warm up isn't enough those first few min are a bit stumbly

exactly...I let it idle for about 3 mins and then go. When it was 90* it took literally 2 blocks to clear up...now that its in the 60* it takes about a mile....as it gets colder I suspect a longer idle/warm-up or more distance will be required.

not a big deal but it is noticeable over stock and the first mod that ever made that kind of a difference.

it is just poor atomization/combustion [lack of velocity into the chamber] along with more air than the motor is used to at that stage. some DBW tweaking might help it but my plate is full ATM

Hmm, I haven't noticed as big of a difference with my VTCS delete, as other's(you) have mentioned.

Now that it is getting colder, I'm sure that will change, but I wonder how much. Mornings right now around around 40F and it's still quite smooth.

mine became more pronounced with my 3.5" intake but was def there before. I also PnPed my IM and knife edged the plenum so it could be any number of things.

I get the same effect too. Everything idles fine and the engine purrs. Once you try to get it off the line, it bogs like hell and generally hates life until it warms up.

That's one reason I haven't done a vtcs delete. I want my car to drive as normal as possible. Turn the key and go.

I'm from Hawaii and not much people here (more like only me that I know of is fully-bolted), so knowledge of this platform here is all due to research on forums and what not, so just out of curiosity...

From your thread, with a perm-tune, you hit 400whp @ 26psi, and that is with meth correct...? I was wondering, what would this turbo be capable of without meth...? I was looking to go with this turbo on a stock block and w/o meth due to the fact that I don't know where I could get meth here other than ordering online...

What would be your thoughts, and help would be greatly appreciated...

Atvfreek will give you a better answer than me, but your looking at 320-330whp on 93 gas only give or take a few hp.

I'm very jealous man. I just got back from Maui. Had the time of my life!!!

Without meth you will become knock limited at about 330hp, and this is depending on fuel quality. Maybe a little more, maybe a little less.

Thanx for the input, appreciate it... We have 92 octane here, and 320-330whp is a good number here on the island, ain't got much room to play...

Haha, glad you liked your stay in Maui, it's pretty congested here on Oahu...

330hp is good, and not wanting to max out the BNRS3 turbo too much, but hey, if it can handle, why not...

No BSD delete here either. And probably won't ever do one. Extra vibrations and hearing the wife bitch is not worth it. Once she hates the car, I will ultimately hate the car, so keeping it fast and as stock feeling as possible is what's important to me. I can haul the kids around without excessive noise and vibration and still pull on 90% of the cars on the road when riding solo.

I never give it much gas first thing in morning, so maybe I haven't given it much chance for me to experience. My commute doesn't involve highway, its a 10 min back road cruise heh

ya know I still run my BS an next month when I do my drop in, I will still have it but....silvapain had a ton of material removed from some of the crank counter weights when he had things balanced...I wonder if the rotating assembly were properly balanced if the BS is necessary.

I realize the factory can't take that kinda time and so the BS is necessary...hum..

if I ever do a complete build and balance everything from the pulley to the flywheel I'll delete the BS and then know for sure

its actually the worst just off idle when you let the clutch out fully that it wants to choke...so I slip just a lil and rev up to 1500-1700 as I take off. ....then a light feathering of the throttle makes things tolerable. Hard to explain...its really not bad at all but if you were to give it gas like normal it would fall on its face.

No matter how well you balance the components, the inline 4 is not a naturally balanced motor and hence the balance shaft. This has been done in high end 4 cylinders for a long long time. If you remove it you will get vibes and resonance at 3k RPM.

I also have the not so great drivability on cold starts with the ported IM with VTCS deleted.

I think this is exacerbated by aiming for lean AFR in the 2000-2500 cruising range.

It typically goes away in the first mile or so.

Essentially when lightly tipping into the gas when cold my AFR will breifly rise to about 18:1 and result in the stuttering. If I give it more throttle, I can plow right through the rough spot...

I wish we had cold start enrichment table to help smooth this over...

Super late to the party, but Congrats Justin! Very impressive!! I deleted my BSD a long time ago, and never had any issues, and passengers can never tell. The only time I ever feel any vibs (which is very rare) is at a specific rpm range and I'm looking for them. But others have said 'they are terrible' so idk wtf. You've been in my car...

Good point Dano about the balancing, but I think even without balancing that thing is bad news. Again, not sure if vibs from the BSD is less pronounced in MS6s vs. MS3s, or just varies car to car, or butt cheek to butt check (or ATM).

Hard to explain...its really not bad at all but if you were to give it gas like normal it would fall on its face.
the crank is 100% fully balanced from the factory without the BS installed. the BS as lex stated is purely for NVH and nothing else. no motor in the world would survive if it had to rely on the BS to balance out a 40lb weight spinning at 7k+ rpm's haha

It typically goes away in the first mile or so.

Essentially when lightly tipping into the gas when cold my AFR will breifly rise to about 18:1 and result in the stuttering. If I give it more throttle, I can plow right through the rough spot...

I wish we had cold start enrichment table to help smooth this over...

believe it or not, i had this problem too until i installed my new cams. now its pretty much completely gone. i did add about 4deg of timing to the 1000-2500 range from 1.0L to 1.7L but i noticed a substantial difference in cold start driving even before this change.

I have no idea what the factory does, but my machine shop removed a shit ton of material from my crank to balance it.

I wouldn't remove the balance shaft without balancing the rotating assembly. That's just my opinion though.

Heh! I do around 3k rpm after my RMM install.
