Default 17x9 +45 RPF1's on a Genpu

Specific to Gen 2 speed3's. I DO NOT CARE WHAT YOUR GEN1 is running.

Who has them and what suspension set up are you running. spacers? issues?

I currently have Sonic Tuning coilovers and a set of 17x9 +45 RPF1's waiting to be installed on my car.

I want to know what suspension you're running because it seems that for some reason the inner wheels rub on the strut with sonic tuning coilovers. Ive yet to see pictures though.

thread reference: Need help!! Rpf1 inner rim is rubbing on strut!

Maybe its a brownie issue, but @Voltron Locos; also stated he had the same issue with HKS coilovers on a similar wheel size/offset. He also stated bigger spacers didnt work. (10mm)

I know people are running them and want to know what suspension they are using, I might just have to return the sonic tuning coilovers or sell them and get different ones.

set ups known to work:

H&R Coilovers (spacer may be required)
Koni Yellows
Ksport Coilovers (spacer may be required)

@myt_tuf1; runs that size, but not on coils (I think Koni and spring combo). He reports being close to rubbing the strut.

Largest RPF1 I Can Get?

I have the same setup on stock suspension and it's close, probably have 3mm of clearance without spacers.

The spring and shock combo seems to produce more clearance because of coilovers being a little thicker.

I have 17x9 with a +45 with z1 star specs. I have 8 mil spacers from oriellys and current coilovers are ksport kontrol pro's. I did need bigger than 3 mil spacers or it would rub the struts.

Have 17x9s with 255 dunlops, have extended studs and 5mm spacers, stupid close to stock struts, but cleared with no spacers (put 5mms in for piece of mind).

Going to be putting KWs on soon (in the box in garage). Going to break out the calipers and measure the thickest part of each this weekend and see what I need. Not looking forward to having my tires stick out even farther.

@thanu31; whats your suspension set up?....nevermind I kept reaading that thread and saw that they were H&R coils.

As stated in the OP someone said they used 10MM spacers with the HKS and they still didnt fit? Must be some big ass struts if you ask me.

The question is, Do I want to try 10MM spacers on the sonic tuning coil overs or do I just want to sell those and get the Ksports. Difference in coil overs is very minimal if you ask me.

after seeing all the k-sport fail lately, not just on here but other sites, id pick up the KW V1s, especially with the amount of money you have in the car.

I lost a car to shitty coilovers, with shitty chinese welds..hence the V3 purchase.

Quick thread jack that does not require a response, simply trying to help. But when linking a post to a specific post, if you click the post number, it will put that specific post to the top of the page, and when you copy that URL, it will automatically link people to that exact post. Just FYI

Carry on

Thanu is running H&R Coilovers with some spacers... I'm sure he will chime in.

Maybe 5mm spacers all around, but I don't think that's right...

@kritz; is on the Corksport coilovers and some fairly wide Volks. I think he would have some valuable input to this thread.

Matt, You get a gold star. 17/8.5"/40mm offset. Running 245's Starspec II No clearance issues at the struts but the rear needed a roll and pull as well as some plastic inner (rear) wheel well trimming.

How low is your rear? I test fitted my 17x9 rpf1 with 245s and it wasn't ribbing at all. I have a 2 inch drop as well. Maybe my dampening is too stiff.

Not that low, 1-1/2 max. What tires? The star specs seem to have a wider profile than most. I know a 245 is a 245 but shape will differ between brands.

sorry for the late reply.

I am running H&r Coils with no problems at all. I use spacers in the front because of an odd issue with the rims touching my calipers :s

Other then that, they are fine, nothing touching the struts, even with 245/40 starspecs, and starspecs are a bit bulky compared to others

Hope that helps

edit: reading fail i thought you meant rubbing on the fenders not the struts. my bad.

I'm on 245 zIIs and I was hitting strut in the front on stock suspension, I have 5mm spacers in the front....and there shouldn't be a need for them in the back (I have tons of room there, unless those cool overs are 20mm thicker than stock). I would think anything more than 8mm or so and you would have to pull the fender liner and roll the fronts the rest of the way. I am lowered on swifts with stock struts. I am super busy but maybe I can get a pic of the current clearance tomorrow with a point of reference so we can better see the actual available clearances.

Don't worry about it, I don't care about the stock suspension lol

As far as it goes now, the thread linked in the OP has a confirmed fit with sonic coil overs which is what I have. 10 MM spacers will work. He has pictures in the thread to show it.

Why don't you just sell the pu and get a genwin? All your problems will go away, all the wheels you'll ever want will fit, and the ladies will like you better. It's a win win win.

There needs to be some type of motivation for the fail Pu owners lol

When I sell the speed3 I will be staying away from the failz wheel drive though.

I plan on getting a C6 Vette, A FD or a Supra.

I am however getting rid of my miata for a 1st Gen CTS-V for my daily when I get back.

All in all, a couple 5 mm spacers would not be a bad investment (at least for the front wheels) to keep the wheels from touching the struts (that's not a problem with the Koni's) and the keep them from touching the calipers (when new pads are installed).

BTW, I installed the Akebono pads, if that's of any interest.

What size tire do you wanna run on the wheel? If 5mm barely clears get some 10mm spacers because they will clear for sure and you wont have to roll/pull the fenders. Get some extended wheel studs because anything over 8mm you'll barely have enough threads for the lugs. The studs linked below are cheaper than the ms3 specific ones and they work just fine.
