Default 18x8.5 +45

I have a set of forged gram lights 57F from my previous car...

Looks like a direct fitment to the 2010+ mazdaspeed.

Any thoughts as to tire size in terms of asthetics? Stock 225/40/18 once lowered or possibly larger?

I'm trying to decide between H&R or Pro-kit for a drop.

The stock 225's will work but be stretched some so your best bet are 235 or even better 245's

if i had to do it over i'd go 245. the 235's are even a little stretched on 8.5's.

i have the H&R's and have zero problems. As a matter of fact, not only does it handle better, it rides a little better.

Finkle, as i mentioned to you before, looking into getting those Nurburgrings in gunmetal but possibly stepping up to 245's. I posted a thread here http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/forum/f505/245s-72897/ and some members are saying that it might possibly rub.

Have you ever ridden with a heavy load in your car or even a couple of passengers? Just trying to figure out if rubbing would be a problem because I don't want to roll my fenders at all.

u cant generalize like that, not all 235's fit the same.

heres mine. 235x40 on 18x8.5, not stretch one bit.

that's another great point pablo. Thank's a bunch and I might actually lean a bit more towards the 235's then and look for a tire that tends to run a bit wider I guess.

the ones I have definitely run on the wide side... I did rub a tiny bit, I did a very minor fender roll and that did it. If u look in the 3rd picture, theres a very minor scratch all along the corner of the tire, very minor... thats before the roll.

I think that's the difference between Gen1 and Gen2 guys, the fenders seem to extend out further in the Gen2's making it easier to fit wider tires.

I see you have 45 offset on stock size tires. Do you think you have clearance for a 43 offset?

The rims I'm looking at come in either 48 or 43 offset, and I'd prefer the 43's. If I have to roll the fender a bit to address minor rubbing I'm ok with that, but I don't want hella-flush/stance.

Opinions?

Dude a fender roll.....is soooo easy anyway. I'd take the rubber over a small rub that's easily cure-able.

Damn I have 255s coming....might have went a little overkill....the tires are semi-worn though. I guess i'll stop being cheap and order some 245 Star Specs.

So Finkle would you recommend the 40 series over the 35 even at 255 or 245 sized? I kinda debated doing a 35 to keep the speedo happy.....a 255-35-18 is about a 225-40-18 as far as aspect ratio.

25.09 is stock
25.03 is for 255-35-18
25.72 is for 245-40-18
24.75 is for 245-35-18 <----Dumbest size
26.03 is for 255-40-18

That's generalized at least.....I keep hearing that the comfort level of a 40 is better than a 35. Might say eff the speedo and do a 245-40-18.

Although a 255-35-18 i'd think the sidewall would be equal than the stock rubberbands. Ergh....I hate tire choices.

The rims I'm looking at come in either 48 or 43 offset, and I'd prefer the 43's. If I have to roll the fender a bit to address minor rubbing I'm ok with that, but I don't want hella-flush/stance.

Opinions?
Go 43 who cares if it's a bit "flusher" you can fit a bigger rubber if you wanted too. Offset doesn't mean aesthetics....to a point it does have a function of form. If you went 18x9.5 +30 that'd be overkill. The further out you go the better the track, but the more it beats your wheel bearings and too far will throw off geometry. There's a balance and you'll still definitely be on the right side of it.
It's getting a 9.5" wheel and stretching a 215 on her to tuck tire with retarded camber you wanna stay away from.

I'll finally get around to putting the summer-set on next week! When I sold my old SI, I kept the Gram Lights around and thankfully they will fit just fine in 18x8.5 +45. My old Muteki lugs from the SI fit too (same thread pitch) so YAY.

I have a fresh set of 245/40/18 Sumitomo HTRZ III's en route as the 235's on similar sized wheels still look small on the Speed3. I'll also be removing the RAYS and GRAMLIGHTS decals...

On the 'ol Civic:

Update: I have to have the wheel hub machineda bit. It turns out the bore of the RAYS wheels I have are 64.1 and the Mazda hub is 67.1. I'll have them professionally machined to the normal aftermarket 73mm (makes it easier for whoever may own them in the future) and then run rub rings. Hopefully by next week it will be completed and wheels will be on.

Machinist picking the wheels up today and dropping back off at the shop probably around Tuesday. Plus, they will mount my new 245/40/18's...hopefully they won't rub

You'll be fine. The gen2's have a lot of room to fill.

I'm looking forward to seeing pics when you get a chance.

Finally - these wheels will be ready tomorrow and I'll toss 'em on this weekend. Apparently the machinist needed to order another tool, which took some time to stock-in.

Wheels are on. The 245's fit no problem...no rubbing at all even with the H&R's. It looks like there is even room to spare. Pics to follow...

Sorry so just to confirm your running 245s with 8.5 inch rim? Hows the inner clearance to the struts? I'm curious because i'm on 8.5 inch rims and looking at either 235 or 225 but apparently 235 may scrub.

I don't think you understand aspect ratios on tires. 235 would be narrower than 245 (depending on sidewall height). If 245's don't rub, then neither will 235's presuming you go with a stock-like tire circumference.

I have 245/35 on my car with an 8.5" wide rim. No rubbing on the inner or outer fender.
