Default Good Deal on Hankook V12's

Ok, So I've been looking for new tires and the Hankook V12's seem to be a preferred item here on MSF so I decided to get them. I came across Discount Tire Direct and found the Hankook V12's in a 245/40/17 that I'm looking for a price cheaper than most other sites (OTD price including applicable taxes, shipping, etc) but also saw they have a mail-in rebate (yes, you have to mail it in and wait 6-8 weeks but it's better than nothing) for $60 bucks back. It looks like you have to make a purchase before the end of the month.

Either way, I thought I'd share with all you fags out here in case anyone needed some new rubber . Here's the link to what I bought and the rebate PDF download:

You would be the one to catch that, HAHA. I just bought some Enkei 17 x 8's that came off an Evo 9.

I'm not sure, from what I've read in a few threads over the past couple days, I should be safe on 245/40's with my 17's but time will tell.

^^^^Hey men,

I would have got 2 sets if it was the
I have no experiences with those tires. But is there really a comparison here in terms of high performance. Because so far I got that the V12 are good replacement for stocker. And hello for the price.

I would have got 2 sets for that price if it was the ventus rs3. Will those be a good choise for the track? In terms of dry/wet grip

I wish I had it like that too, the RS-3 did look sweet but no rebate for those.

As a side, the rebate is only good for one set of tires per household according to the fine print. Unless anyone knows a work around for that.

@K7addict: You do have friends right? just send them to their address.

so I'm still not clear about the V21's dry performance in comparison to the NT05. From the appearance, it doesn't looks like it can provide some grip/traction as the NT05.

Anyone has experience with those on the track?

Thanks a lot for chiming in.

I am a big fan of the v12's but I think as far as track performance, I would go with the NT05's.The Hankook is a great all-round summer tire that is quieter than stock, does well in both wet and dry, and is relatively inexpensive for the performance.

So, I could probably be alright with fitting 235/40/18s on my stockers? I just want something meattier.

I have the Hankooks in that size right now and I am lowered on H&R springs--no issues at all.

edit....I am not on stockers, currently running a 8.5 wheel but you should be good with the stockers as well.

Got the Hankook V12 215/45R18 about 10k ago. Started okay. Sidewall gives a lot more than OEM on corners. After 10k, getting a lot of wheel chirp on starts and hard cornering. Not very happy overall. Good price, but not impressed.

I'd check for bubbles on the sidewalls too. I've ruined 3 of the so far. I'm chalking this up as a "you get what you pay for." Worst tires I have ever had in my 18 years of driving.

I ran these on my SVT Focus in 215/45/17. Two were replaced due to balance issues. They were very grippy in the relatively short amount of time I had them, but the sidewall flex was borderline-unacceptable. Inflating them 2-3PSI higher than normal helped a lot, but it also caused premature center wear. Although a friend of mine likes them on his '08 Vette, I wouldn't buy them again nor would I recommend them. You certainly do get what you pay for with tires.

The car I replaced with the MS3 was a 2003 Ford Focus SVT. I hated that little car (mainly because I sold the stock parts). lol

I have v12s and am not impressed in regards to performance. I have a few turns that I take fairly often and use as a basis and I could take all consistently faster and w more confidence w the stock dunlops. These also are not as good in wet weather.

The only other test which I am not sure of yet is longevity. The dunlops were definitely not strong in that regard.

But I'm not sure what the dunlops cost, and these are cheap and very livable tires.

My apologies ahead of time for this OT post, but I also replaced my SVT Focus with a 2011 Velocity Red MS3 w/Tech (and couldn't be happier!). Just got it a week ago today as a matter of fact.

The "confidence level" I felt with the V12s was only marginally better than the Continental Extreme DWS all seasons I had run previously. While the V12s are definitely stickier in warm weather, the sidewalls are every bit as soft and the steering response every bit as vague. This vagueness was especially unnerving at speed, such as during emergency maneuvers on the highway.

My wet weather experience with the V12s was also poor with respect to wheelspin; the V12s would break traction with low to moderate throttle input from a relatively weak engine, especially when they were not pointed directly ahead.
