Default No auto OFF\ON headlights 2010 models?

Just wanted to see if I could get verification on this.

I had been looking at buying a 2009 speed3 and in that year model you could get two trims the sport and the grand sport. The grandsport came with auto on\off headlights. Now in 2010 you can only get the sport level for the speed3 and I was told at the dealer that was because they merged the two and the speed3 just gets all those options - the problem with that is I do not see the auto on\off headlights. I know the 2010 regular mazda 3 can come equipped with it. Is there no way to get this option on the speed3?

I have grown so used to have an auto on\off headlight switch it would probably be a show stopper to keep me from buying the 2010 model.

It is just a great feature. In todays technology age and in a car that already has this designed for it why take a step backwards?

It is not like asking for new technology that is not there - although there are a few to mention there (stereo with hard disk storage space and one that they added in this model year a boost gauge). This technology already designd and available for this car and available on previous model years. I am hoping I am wrong and that it is still available.

Why don't you just get an automatic too? I know shifting is hard and automatics are better technology...lol There's a reason this car is as inexpensive as it is. They take out all the sissy features because owning a Mazdaspeed3 isn't about being a sissy, its about having a bat out of hell that's faster than cars thousands of dollars more. If a deal breaker for driving a sports car that is faster than most anything else is the fact that it doesn't have automatic headlights, then you shouldn't be driving performance vehicles sir.

Because I am an American and I like fast shit WITH lots of features. I'm not poor and if they can provide convenience on my daily drive when I'm not out playing with my toy for a couple hundred bucks then why should I not want and expect it. It is almost hard to find a car without that option these days and again like I said the technology is already built in to the stupid car.

Maybe you are poor and only want a shell with a fast engine in it. Maybe you only drive yours to the track and back and don't need it. That is why it is called an option - and that is what it was last year on the 2009 model.

There is nothing wrong on wishing to have automatic headlights, wipers and all so that the driver is just focused on driving and not worrying about the rain and lights.

On the other hand, having automatic transmission is an exception of course!

This car has more options than most other performance cars. I definitely wouldn't call it a shell because it doesn't have automatic headlights. It has dual climate control, navigation, push button start, bluetooth, electroluminescent gauges, 10 speaker bose, leather bolsters, leather steering wheel, 18 inch alloys, I could go on.

You sir, are a sissy. A prissy sissy at that. Go to the mall, do your nails, get your hair did, and gtfo.

That wasn't directed at you Chinsel, you're cool.

It takes away from the driving experience to sit down in the car after you turn the ignition and think about the following IF statement:

IF: Visible conditions outside are night, dusk, or where lights would be a benefit.

THEN: Turn car lights on.

OR: Don't turn lights on.

I am certainly not dissing this car. I would not have spent time researching it, test driving it, etc if I thought it was not a great car. Mazda has built a great car that competes well vs its competition (GTI, WRX, etc).

I posted this in hopes of getting:
1) a post proving me wrong that it was still an option
2) insight into why they might have removed this option

Mainly I just didn't understand the step backwards - not insulting the car and I recognize for some people this option does not matter more than a hill of beans. I've bought cars before knowing they had little to no options (my 2002 Z06 had 5 colors, and 3 options - body side molding - another deal breaker for me personally mine did not have this, cassette player instead of the cd player, and memory seats). So I get that the most important features of a fast car are that it drives great and looks cool.

As for the load of options you listed Pika:
dual climate control - Standard
navigation - Option
push button start - Option
bluetooth - Standard
electroluminescent gauges - Standard
10 speaker bose - Option
leather bolsters - Standard
leather steering wheel - Standard
18 inch alloys - Standard

Most of what you listed are standard features not options on this model. Not that any of those are not great features - and I really like that they added the push button start to this year model.

I guess if calling me a sissy makes you feel like you have a big sack more power to you. Keep posting to forums without adding any useful dialogue when you can get you knuckles up from dragging on the floor.

As for anyone else I would love to hear a definitive answer that there is no option to get the auto headlights vice versa or knowledge on aftermarket add on kits I have seen a few for American cars.

It's just a sport trim. The grand touring has not been released and not sure if it will be released.

Hehe! If you want a 2010 model GT trim that bad, then buy it from Canada and pay the taxes going here. I bet it'll be expensive but you have your dream car!

Or you could leave the lights on when you turn the car off because they automatically turn off on a timer.

I guess that is another option - does it make an alarm sound when you get out of the car and the lights are on (with push button start model and no key in)?

I just purchased a Mazda 3 Grand Touring with every option for my wife and a 2010 mazdaspeed for me. The options that she has on her car are very nice. Two things I would like to see added to my car is the bi-xennon headlights - that are self leveling and turn into a corner for you. Now I did order some DDMs but would like the stock ones for those small curvy roads at night. The other option is also the auto-dimming lights. I've had it on my last 3 cars and they sure are nice. I do agree that these items are by far not required. By no means did they affect my dicision on what car to pick out for myself.

I just purchased my 2010 MS3 and traded in my '02 Mustang GT for it. For about $2k less then my Mustang cost in 2002 I got alot more features, better handling and ride, more interior room yet fits in my one car garage better and its just as fast and fun to drive IMO.

Ya I agree completely. I drove a 2000 Civic Si and I bought the MS3 for the engine and the sweet bells and whistles, but I could live without 'em...

I'm poor. I have to have the performance goodies. The rest of the frills are gravy and could be optional if the cost of the basic car could be reduced. But that stuff IS nice to have!

1) a post proving me wrong that it was still an option
2) insight into why they might have removed this option

Mainly I just didn't understand the step backwards
As for anyone else I would love to hear a definitive answer that there is no option to get the auto headlights vice versa or knowledge on aftermarket add on kits I have seen a few for American cars.

1. Not an option.
2. weakening dollar value. Also why they likely did away with the mirror turn signals, and floor LED's on all mz3 and ms3's part way through their 2010 production. An american dollar doesn't buy as much as it did. Either raise the price, or lose some of the frills that people are most likely able to live without.

ideas?? well I looked through my personalization guide, which I thought might have something about an auto-turnoff where you could just leave them on (has all sorts of things like how long you want your interior lights on, loudness of blinkers, etc), and it only had settings for the lights on buzzer volume, so that is out. Not sure what it would entail or if it would be possible to do an auto headlight swap with a regular mz3 headlight setup. Or maybe add a relay and a timer where they would turn off automatically when you turned the key off.

It was something I had to get used to. But mine was more forgetting to turn them on at night in town where the streets are brightly lit.

All that comes stock with all the 3 MPS models here in sweden, same as in canada i think...we get them fully euqipped with everything u can imagine..

Holy crap, you guys get screwed!

My car has the bi-xenon headlights that turn when you turn the steering wheel... LED's under the dash, turn signal lamps on the side mirrors, automatic headlamps (even dims your gauge cluster when its dark and brightens it when its sunny)

Everything came stock... our Speed3's have 0 options... they just ask you what colour you want! They ALL even have the tech package and navigation.

I also have the compass in the auto-dim rear view mirror with the homelink buttons for my garage door!

(but then, in Canada we always get screwed with car prices so i'm sure they make up for all these goodies by charging us $30,000 for the car).

Old Porsches don't have cup holders but their owners don't care.

imo (and based on some info PiKA probably has access to as well) they won't release a Grand Touring model for 2010. Honestly I doubt they will do it for 2011 either since people don't really care that much. It's still a lot of car for the money and they are selling like hot cakes.

Yes my 2009 had a few more "auto" features my 2010 doesn't, but I'd rather have my push start and I already put HiDs in that look better than factory to me.

So are most of the not-necessary luxuries in many modern automobiles. But if it means pushing the price of the MS3 up to and/or over 30k, I can do without them. I was a little disappointed that the 2010s didn't have a GT model with leather/alcantara seats, HIDs and LED tail lights, but when I found they had push button start, keyless entry, nav, SIRIUS, and Bluetooth, it wasn't much of a sacrifice.

I actually make less money on a Mazdaspeed3 compared to a Mazda3 right off the bat if I were to sell both cars at full price and they were priced exactly the same.

Think about it, a fully loaded Mazda3 HB is the same price (roughly) as a fully loaded Mazdaspeed3. Performance mods (better engine, suspension, brakes, etc.) cost more than luxury mods (heated seats, xenon headlights, LED tailights, etc.) People honestly don't understand the value of the Mazdaspeed3. There is literally no car that comes out of the box this fully loaded with performance/luxury at this price. More stuff=more money and most people are too dumb to realize what a great deal this car is to begin with so raising the price isn't going to help. I could write a whole essay on this...

Also, I'm only referring to Americans. You Euros understand the value of a car way more than us dumb Americans do which is why you get cooler stuff probably, that and your money is worth more like its been said before.

That's because the Germans found it laughable that we Americans would want to do anything in the car, OTHER THAN DRIVING. They think we think our cars are moving fast food stations. I know, based on my research paper I wrote on the Autobahn and how several interviews showed that the Germans took driving 10x more seriously than we did.

Anyways:

I have a first gen with auto headlights and auto rain-sensing wipers.

Auto Headlights + HID's are a bad idea. The constant flicker on/off of the HID's when I start my car in the garage, only for them to turn off almost instantly, or driving through tunnels, are very bad for the longevity for the HID's. And the rain-sensing wipers are a TOTAL PITA.

If I could, i'd trade in my 1st Gen GT for a 2nd Gen Sport and just buy a seperate set of HID's to make up the difference in what I was missing.

Both of those features can be switched off though... so you only have to use 'em when you FEEL like it.

I find my rain sensing wipers are most useful when its a really light rain where you dont want your wipers going non-stop... they just turn on when the windshield starts getting wet. Plus, it was cool to show off that feature to people by throwing a snowball at my windshield (lightly) and having the wipers activate!

Although there's been TWO times now where i've forgotten the auto wipers were on and I went to squeegie my windshield just to be slapped around by the wipers.

Rain-sensing wipers cannot be turned off. And the sensitivity adjustment is bullshit. I truely and utterly hate my rain-sensing wipers.

Well, yeah, they can be turned off. But I think we're misunderstanding. I mean, turn off JUST the rain-sensing wiping part, in exchange for intermittent. I know the wiper stalk can be turned off all together.

you are wrong. any position other than auto can be selected to do whatever you want. go read the owners manual.

While the other forum is GREAT for technical/mechanical information and how to, that place is filled with single-minded (if you aren't driving fast, you're doing it wrong), arrogant, and professional douchebags.

God damnit...

HERE, this is WTF I mean.

Sport:
OFF
Intermittent with speed adjustment
Slow
Fast

GT:
OFF
Rain-Sensing with sensitivity adjustment
Slow
Fast

What i'm trying to say is, there is nothing that lets you just turn the "rain-sensing" part off, in exchange for intermittent with speed adjustment.

If i'm still wrong after that, then obviously i've been doing it wrong. But there is NO WAY to adjust a slower speed for the wipers.

If a deal breaker for driving a sports car that is faster than most anything else is the fact that it doesn't have automatic headlights, then you shouldn't be driving performance vehicles sir.
This is the answer for all this shit. all these little sissy features that regular 3s have can add up to a significant amount of money. thats why Mazda eliminated these on our Mazdaspeed3s, so they could keep its msrp as low as possible.

Didn't you guys read that article about building up the 2nd generation mazdaspeed3? Mazdaspeed engineers clearly said that they can add AWD and all those innovative shits to 2nd gen and market it for like around $30K, but they said that is not the point of Mazdaspeed3. The car's main point is to be the best bang for the mfking dollar, and that's why Mazda didn't put the AWD on the 2nd generation.

It's all part of the business plan.

someone complains about too much soot on DI boosted car and now this shit?

like i said, get a fcking Prius and call it a day. and didn't you guys research prior to the purchase????? why complain now?

I'll give you my 08's auto headlights as I hate them. I don't need the wear and tear on the ballasts of the HID's as they go on/off everytime I start my car in my garage in the morning or pull in at night. Doing so is not good long term for the HID's. Thus I leave mine off.
