Just assume it will get stuck up top sometime around Halloween. 2016. (sarcasm).

BigBoostMS3 09-09-2015 06:40 AM

Only thing I need to do to the car for prep is front struts. Pretty sure I'll be going with Koni yellows. Going to wait until the spring to swap out the rears due to budget issues.

The front passenger side is blown and the car pushes that way in hard left corners.

Alternatively one of my locals has his OE fronts for sale if you're looking to save some money.

Not sure we need to hype fall camp like we do spring camp. I feel you on being busy though. The hype is going to be mostly your responsibility this go around, since I still have another month of craziness scheduled.

Camp should be a great vacation for me. I'll have been going non-stop for 8 months by that point. Promotion, working on the road, moving, wedding, etc... The week before camp is when my schedule clears out for the end of the year, so I'm seriously looking forward to this.

I guess i should have been more clear. "We" have them booked up already. You have one I have the other.

I know you've tried. Everything you do around here is appreciated. I know you don't get to hear that a lot. Just sucks we can't get anything done. I bet a vendor non pay gets handled REAL quick.

If I was in your position I would have given up a long time ago. Thanks for not doing that.

We've made camp this long without being on the front page. We will survive!

Aren't they different between the Juan and Pu?

I thought about going this route and the price is definitely right. I'll wait until the end of this month to make a call. I could even do two new OEM struts for the price of one Koni yellow. The car is lowered on H&R springs though, so something designed for that application is probably a better bet. As long as I can afford them, I'll be going Koni's.

Raider 09-09-2015 07:55 AM

Just know the only reason I am still on MSF is not for him, but for everyone else on here. The more friends that leaves here draws me back some, but hoping somehow to get em back on here for some reason.

Flooded tent...that doesn't sound like fun at all. Which campsite did you stay in?

I googled and it looks like some of the standard tent sites are actually on wooden decks. That might be good for avoiding getting as wet and muddy as other sites. I don't know what the RV sites are like - although access to power is appealing.

Not too familiar with the campground as I've only been there once. Anyone have any input?

My bad, didn't realize you had a Gen1. I know the Gen1 and Gen2 have different part numbers, but I always assumed they were interchangeable because they looked identical when we did coilovers on a couple cars one day. Of course, there could have been small dimensional differences I couldn't see with my eyes, and I'm sure the valving is different. You're right, though. Might as well spring for the good stuff.

I'm not sure John - it was gravel. We dropped a tarp and then plopped the tent - the wind driving the rain put 1/2" of precip in my sleeping bag. Wet ass made for grumpy ass and we spent the last night in the Microtel.

djern 09-09-2015 10:41 PM

did anybody truly "camp" at MDC last year, IIRC we were all confined to the cabins, then there was the whole snow situation.

MD1032 09-29-2015 09:01 AM

We're having a prep meet in Louisville, KY October 10th... I have a few things I need to take care of before camp! Blown front passenger strut, I think I have a broken sway bar bracket, and some charge piping updates.

Nothing too serious, but it all needs to be done. I don't have any damn time!!

I love caravaning(sp?)! Except for being the last guy at the light and having to run the shit out of it. That sucks.

Well now that you're offering.................LOL. I dont think I have enough muscle for that many handies. But it hasn't slipped since, not that I have noticed at least. And only slipped at peak tq (380awtq) in 4th gear. Since 2nd & 3rd gear are lower in power I'm hoping I wont hit it hard enough to make it slip. Probably being optimistic and by the time i leave the dragon I'll be power shifting. But as long as my clutch doesn't show increased signs of slippping, and my mommas health maintains, I'mma be all up in yalls shit.

I hope to have the funds together soon for parts but dont think I cant put the install together fast enough to get it in. I dont have the skills to perform the swap by myself and would need to rely on my local NATOR homies and when some of them can help. I've read the walk-throughs and such and feel pretty decent about it but not confident enough to do it alone.

Same here man. BNR/springs/meth/brand new tires = gonna be a whole different trip! Last trip my tires were literally slicks. At times I was spinning all four wheels with 300awhp lol. After ENM i got home and checked my tires and one was corded DEEP. I don't know how I didn't die.

I second this. During spring camp we froze our balls off the first 2 nights. I had 2 heated blankets, one inside my sleeping bag and one between me and the ground and was still cold. But I'm a cold pussy.

I like the coffee maker idea. Didnt you rent the cabin?

What's all this we stuff @ItsNox;? I was nice and toasty during ENM, mummy bag. haha Though I did enjoy hearing y'all freeze over there.

Kidding aside, bring warm stuff guys, seriously, you can always remove layers and gear, but if you come under prepared you're SOL. I am actually shopping for a new tent now, but I wanted to ask if anyone wanted to go in with me on an RV site. Any takers?

Man I wish I knew for sure if I could make it. If I can, I need power for my CPAP, so RV site, but I didn't reserve one because work keeps fuxking with my schedule for that week.

If I come I will have to drive from Illinois to Virginia then to the dragon. Probably wouldn't make it until Friday. If you have room for a one man tent on an RV site and I make it I'll throw in some cash, but I'm still iffy.

InkedInspector 10-05-2015 10:02 AM

I put in my vacation time today! I am debating what to do with my tent situation, I need a new one, I don't want a huge one to camp in for just myself, wifey wants a bigger one for the family, so i'm thinking of buying a little cheap one for when I'm by myself and spend the money on a bigger one for the fam. Anyone here have or used the Coleman Sundome? Amazon has them for 44 bucks and the reviews seem pretty good for a cheapo 3 season.

YoursTruly 10-05-2015 10:45 AM

I am lightly considering making the trip up to do this. I haven't camped in forever, but I think I still have some of my old stuff. Man, 4 tanks of fuel in a weekend is a lot.

InkedInspector 10-05-2015 11:37 AM

You know you wanna do it!

I had a blast at Spring Dragon camp with the Oklahoma, Georgia, Alabama, Illinois and Michigan crews. There were many drinks and fires.

YoursTruly 10-05-2015 12:05 PM

A spare set of wheels/tires and the tools to change over doesn't leave much room for camping stuff and a beverage cooler. I wish the Rx8 had a real cargo pass-through.

InkedInspector 10-06-2015 02:38 PM

It is getting down to crunch time, I have to get the RSB on, an oil change, and that rear right caliper sorted this weekend. Rob and I aren't done with the tune yet either, but on Rev. 7 it's honestly probably good enough if we didn't get any further.

I opted for el cheapo on the tent. The Coleman Sundome 3 person is 7x7 and so it will hold a queen air mattress and the rest of my stuff, reviews were really good and they are under 50 bucks on Amazon for those of you in the market.

Do not forget your radios people! Cell phones DO NOT work outside of town, so it's your only communication, granted it still doesn't get you far, it's better than nothing.

Amazon.com : BaoFeng UV-5R Dual Band Two Way Radio (Black) : Frs Two Way Radios : Car Electronics

I bought and programmed a couple of those before ENM this year. Quite the value (as long as you don't mind them being technically illegal to use under most circumstances). I programmed them to use the "standard" FRS and MURS channels as well as setting them to receive (only, NOT transmit) the local Sheriffs' and EMS response channels.

Great radios for the money.

Great point to bring up, we made sure to program in only the usable public channels so that we wouldn't find ourselves in trouble. We did end up with a few interesting moments en route to the dragon from local shops that used the frequencies, etc. You can definitely get yourself in hot water if you aren't careful with these things.

BigBoostMS3 10-06-2015 04:33 PM

A bunch of the TN guys have these ones

They are good for 3-5 miles, sometimes less depending on terrain. You get two and a charger with that pack which is nice. Definitely not as fancy as the other ones posted, but they work great for the application!

Well work has officially scheduled me for an activity in Virginia through the whole week, so no camp for me.

Big sad face. :(

In spring Sharon and I could get cell service at the campground, actually. Pretty much nowhere else though. We have AT&T.

When I come next year I want to see how the amateur radio repeater coverage is down the dragon. If they have good strategically placed receive sites I wouldn't be surprised to have coverage on most of it, especially if I deploy the 2m 5/8 wave antenna and use a non-handheld transceiver.

Hey guys and gals!
We are getting close!
I wanted to take a moment to let everyone know that myself and the fellow organizers of Mazda Dragon Camp are holding the second annual MDC Weenie Roast on Friday, October 23 at 6pm. It will be held at Cabin 1.
The following will be served: hotdogs, chili, baked beans, ketchup/mustard/relish/sauerkraut, chips and water.
Remember to bring supplies for smores if you would like those!
******Please comment on this post and include how many people will be with you so we can get a headcount to help us prepare. This post will be posted on the event page, group page and on MSF (to make sure everyone sees it) so please only comment on one.
Can't wait to see everyone!

InkedInspector 10-12-2015 10:39 AM

SCSI15 10-12-2015 12:02 PM

Nah. Just pitch in for firewood if you want...smores...something like that. We planned the roast for ~40 people anyway

hurricane2ndgen 10-15-2015 10:10 AM

We've been watching for a week, it's been getting better by the day

BigBoostMS3 10-18-2015 11:56 AM

Car is all ready to go!

Koni Yellows on the front as well as a new A/C compressor and bearing. On top of our water heater going out at home, it's been an expensive week!

Gah. Still pissed off that I didn't make the spring weenie roast. Oh well, next year.

MD1032 10-19-2015 11:56 AM

So turns out I'm bringing a small tent to camp, it only has like a 8'x5' or so footprint. Does anyone want to share a campsite? I don't know how large they are.

Plenty of room on the sites for two normal size tents

InkedInspector 10-19-2015 12:46 PM

I packed up my gear this weekend, I'm tossing it in the car Wednesday night and heading that way after work Thursday!

mize13 10-19-2015 12:46 PM

Picked up 5 gallons of VP M1 methanol and a couple cases of beer. Changed oil and lubed everything this past weekend.

Some gopro accessories coming in tomorrow. My car is ready.

anavrinIV 10-19-2015 12:55 PM

Alignment being checked today, wheels are obnoxious and tires sticky, just need an oil change and I'm ready to go. I guess I should pack some clothes and get some beer

Car is all prepped and ready. Full detail and some paint issues fixed.

Been rocking the new re71s for the past week. I'm impressed. I think they are going to blow my old rs3s out of the water.

Camping gear all down from the attic. Weenie roast stuff all purchases. Just have to pack my bag and car. I'll be heading out Wed at 3pm from work.

Shooting for a 430ish pm arrival :) lol

Aiming to be at your work at noon. Got a couple errands I have to run that morning when I get back into Knox.

Get the AC recharged then head to @Travis; house to hang out until you're ready.

I think you're going to need another couple of batches. I know none of us will be there, but termiNATOR puts that many down in like 5 minutes.
