I will definately try to make it. Hopefully wife hasnt popped the baby yet. Thanks for the info bro :You_Rock_Emoticon: @Oliverms3 |
Close ish and on Saturday! |
Wish I could run on the track. Unfortunately, the car isn't set up for that. Must have SS brake lines, new pads, and money to replace tires if necessary. Might go to catch a ride with a pro driver though. That would be fun. |
I'm running this track.... definitely going to need new tires and ss lines |
@Daddy Chinkus sticky this bitch!... if you can? |
Just a heads up to any noobs. If you plan on running the track, you will need to upgrade to stainless steel brake lines at the bare minimum. The stock rubber lines will burst and send you off road with no brakes. Not cool. |

hhmmm sounds fun. i will more than likely be going to this. |
do it! it'll be fun |

If any of you guys are tracking, please sign up at the mazfest's website |
My car will be there.. Its meant to be |
hopefully I'm going! Sent from my 3VO bitches. |
I will be there as long the car is still in one piece by then. :silly: |
I'm down I missed out on the last two since I got my genpu. The only requirements to track is a helmet & the ss brake lines? I've only tracked my car at Adam's Motorsports park. |
I wouldn't worry about SS brake lines. I did plenty of track days before I switched to stainless. For a little insurance bleed your brakes and maybe swap to some dot 4 brake fluid. Id use the tech form as a rough guide. Tech Inspection Form |
Quote:
Just a heads up to any noobs, you do not NEED to have SS lines. If your rubber lines are in good shape you will be just fine. SS is ideal, but if it's your first time on track and your car is in a good state of mechanical repair you will be fine. |
Quote:
Do you honestly expect people to take your advice over someone who's been involved with this platform for over 4 years? GTFO troll. You don't know shit. |
Quote:
Because you've been on a web forum for 4 years you are an expert? I don't know shit? I know that I did 40+ driving events last year where the majority of the cars were street driven cars and had rubber lines. With an average of 90 cars per event that means that 3600 cars were on track and none went off because their rubber brake lines exploded. I don't have to troll when you make such stupid claims. Also back on topic, I will be at Mazfest. |
Quote:
You handle yourself just like every other troll that visits here. Going out of your way to make an account and use your first post to google image a facepalm fail poster stating that my advice is the most ridiculous thing you've ever heard is exactly what a troll would do. I certainly hope nobody takes your advice. Because for $100 bucks and a couple hours of your time, you can assure that you will have precise braking performance throughout the entire day. I imagine this guy has never been in an MS3 when the brake lines lose pressure due to severe expansion of the rubber that have been pumping boiling hot fluid all day long. I have. It's fucking scary and not worth the risk of listening to some brownie on the internet that nobody has met in person. |
@Dash08 i know him. He's a track instructor and a very good driver. He knows what he's doing. But what he said or what you said is still valid. Typically rubber hoses can be ok especially if you're a noob in track. I track'd my car in cal speedway in rubber brake lines and its fine till today. I do agree with you thoe that having ss lines would be preventive measure for problems during the track |
Quote:
The only difference between myself and most trolls is that I'm making a legitimate argument and you are wrong. I get tired of seeing people post blatantly wrong information and standing behind a high post count as though that actually means something. I certainly hope people do listen to what I have to say. I may not have thousands of posts on here, but I do have actual experience on the subject (which to you holds no candle to post count and time on a forum). It'd be pretty sad to see someone not sign up for their first track day because you scared them off with your: "If you plan on running the track, you will need to upgrade to stainless steel brake lines at the bare minimum. The stock rubber lines will burst and send you off road with no brakes. Not cool." This is just untrue. I've driven multiple Mazda Speed 3's on the track in stock form and never had a line explode on me. Any stock braking system will experience fading and be inconsistent over a track day, you are simply stating the obvious. Also I've met more than a few people that are on this forum in person since I don't spend much time on forums anymore. Rizzant (post #37) is a track buddy of mine. BIG SURPRISE he said you'd be fine running without SS lines. Sorry tough guy, but you're wrong regardless of whether I'm trolling or not. P.S. Hi Oliver, sorry to start so much trouble with my first post haha. You know how much I hate b.s. thought. |
Who needs brakes anyways?  |
I started going to the track a few years ago with Ziggo back when he was in SoCal. One of the first things he told me about was a track day where he boiled his brake fluid and was out of brake pad and pretty much lost all braking. We both switched to higher temp fluid using regular oem lines and ran that way for next year or so of track events. The point is you don't NEED stainless steel brake lines to do your first track day. Yes they do help with consistent pedal feel and if you're going to keep doing track days then you might as well get them. But they are last on the essential items list. You need to have some tread on your tires, some pad material left, rotors in decent shape, and for some 20-40 dollar insurance , do a brake fluid flush with dot 4. Luckily Willow Springs is not that bad on brakes with maybe 3 hard braking zones total which you can easily brake early for as you feel your brakes fade. Most of it is high speed which will help keep rotor temps down. Dash and anyone else thinking of going, you should skip the lines, get fresh brake fluid, and try to make it on track. So far all I see is Me and a bunch of Miatas on the track day registration list lol. I look forward to seeing new MS3s out there with me. |

Anywhoo, I will attend as well. :grouphug: |
Ollie - Brakes are overrated, they just slow you down :p OG Ant - stfu you don't overheat your brakes since you're a boss and never use them. That's why you always pass vettes in your minivan. Quote:
See you out there! |
My problem is that you took what is already good advice and blew it way out of proportion like it's the worst thing you've ever heard. And, the fact that rubber brake lines have failed on track days in the past, gives a measure of credibility to my post. Just because you haven't seen this in your illustrious racing career, doesn't mean that it doesn't happen or hasn't happened. Basically, you overreacted. While it isn't guaranteed that your lines will fail, you can't beat $100 bucks and a couple hours of your time for that kind of peace of mind. Besides, if your gonna swap the brake fluid, you may as well swap the lines. I can't believe you would be such an asshole to people you may potentially meet in person over something that isn't as ridiculous as you've made it out to be. Telling people to get SS lines before they go racing is hardly bad advice. The real idiocy is you making such a fuss about it and claiming it's the worst thing you've ever heard. |
Quote:
Stainless steel lines have failed, so what do you propose now? I didn't blow anything out of proportion. You are telling people not to go to the track because their rubber brake lines will explode, who is exaggerating? Good advice would have said that it's a good idea to change your fluid and lines, but that it's not the end of the world if you don't. I didn't know that posting a picture and calling your bad advice ridiculous is overreacting I'm an asshole in person, I wouldn't suddenly start being nice on the internet. I also don't do p.c. nice guy bullshit, I'll tell it like it is and I don't mind admitting when I'm wrong. That is actually helpful to people rather than defending something you know you are wrong about. People may read this and think I'm an asshole and that is fine. At least they will know they can go to the track safely. The real idiocy is you not admitting you are wrong and that people will not suddenly shoot off track and burst into flame if they go to the track with rubber lines. You are wrong and I am done arguing. |
Quote:
For fucks sake, this is like trying to play musical chairs with deaf kids. Get over yourself. |

Quote:
So all of a sudden you don't think you NEED to have ss lines because they will "burst and send you off road"? I'm sorry I hurt your feelings. I didn't think you'd be so sensitive about being wrong. You are right, everyone should get SS lines or not go on track. In fact I'm going to email those in power to make sure they mandate it because they are "racing". Can we be friends now? |
Quote:
I just think it's hilarious. You're so fucking determined to get me to say I'm wrong, you don't give a shit about anything else. Hell, I even reworded it to suit your fragile sensibilities, yet still you persist. Let it go, dude. You won't agree with everyone or everything in life. So, just call me an ass, chalk it up as another disagreement, and move on with your life. |
Fuck that, i know better not to fuck with people from the LBC! :scared1: |
aiight bitches... stop arguing in my thread!:zx11pissed: |
On topic: this is far out ahead enough where I can consider trying to come out for this :) |
:headbang: |
So much drama. It's the truth. I boiled fluid a ton (even the high temp stuff) and never had any trouble with the stock lines. Eventually replaced them for more consistent pedal feel. Good to see you guys running with extreme speed and at big willow rather than back at auto club. I am going to make it back out to buttonwillow eventually..... Zigatapatalka |
Hopefully I'll be at UC riverside by then, if so I'll be at the track |
Quote:
In all honesty, I've had rubber lines burst on me. That's why i tell people flat out that their lines will fail. Some idiots won't even bother inspecting their brakes. They'll just rush out there and start pushing. It just makes sense to swap them if you're already swapping fluid. I do stand by what I was saying and for the simple reason that just because this situation hasn't happened to you, doesn't mean that it doesn't happen. It's easy for you guys who have had no problems to tell everyone everything will be fine. But, for someone who's been in an accident because of this, you tend to be a bit more dramatic when offering advice. Now, you guys know where I'm coming from. |
ok beeches.... registration is now open!:240: |
Quote:
No drama, just making sure no one stops themselves from going to the track for silly reasons. Thank you for helping me spread reason. It would be great to run Buttonwillow with you Ziggo. We'll miss you on the 2nd and 3rd. You'll have to let me know when you come out again. I hope all is well in TX. |

What was teh attendence like last year? I might be coming out for this |
It was good... and I bet its going to be even better this year. It's going to be it's 10th Anniversary of this event |
We should have a meet the day prior, that way we can all get there at the same time the next morning. |
Im going to be there early anyways... |
I was thinking somewhere closer to the track, any suggestions? I know all this shit will sell out soon so im trying to get situated ahead of time. |
@L0ve my MS3 that's your neck of the woods what's up there that would be a possibility? |
Registered. |

Sorry for late reply, stupid tappatalk:angryfire:...I'll see what I can do I might move in July/Aug. Everyone can probably meet at my place the morning of, I'm about 30 min away currently. Let me know who is thinking of meeting up. |
bump! |
|
Just got back from Buttonwillow. Trying to talk my wife into letting me go to track event at Mazfest. :) |
Damn I made a thread on this without seeing this one I will be going. I should have my car ready for this by then... nothing major, just a good alignment and some better brake fluid but NO SS lines lol... Sorry @Dash08 ..it's not needed and it's much easier just changing fluids. |
Quote:
I'm just an asshole who had it happen before. So, FML. |
hey @Dash08 you goin to this thing? |

@Dash08 im assuming you have a AP and did some data logging... where did you go? Long Beach is obviously close to me.. I haven't been able to find a decent safe place to do some DL so I can get tuned. |

I meant flare wrench. Just the top and bottom of wrench grind down to make it thinner. If Dash comes over to do ss lines. I have heard of people stripping or messing up the part of the rubber brake line to caliper part. WRENCHES > Non-Ratcheting > Flare Nut > | GearWrench™ |
I has them wrenches ;) babe. |
Quote:
@TheDeebs I haven't done SS lines on the MS3. I've done them in the past on other vehicles, but not this one. So, I don't know exactly how much help I can offer. I'm coming to the BBQ, but I'm not working on cars. |
The fronts are easy on gen one. I did round the passenger a little but the lines get replaced anyway. The backs were weird. Passenger line did not budge. I had to remove the caliper to remove the line. Drivers came off super easy with 13 mm open wrench. I replaced all the bleeders with speed bleeders. One man brake bleed now. $33 shipped from ebay. Mazfest is a little ways off. Still trying to swing it |
for those coming from out of state; anyone up to splitting costs for a hotel for friday and sat? |
Bump! |
