I started going to the track a few years ago with Ziggo back when he was in SoCal. One of the first things he told me about was a track day where he boiled his brake fluid and was out of brake pad and pretty much lost all braking. We both switched to higher temp fluid using regular oem lines and ran that way for next year or so of track events. The point is you don't NEED stainless steel brake lines to do your first track day. Yes they do help with consistent pedal feel and if you're going to keep doing track days then you might as well get them. But they are last on the essential items list. You need to have some tread on your tires, some pad material left, rotors in decent shape, and for some 20-40 dollar insurance , do a brake fluid flush with dot 4.

Luckily Willow Springs is not that bad on brakes with maybe 3 hard braking zones total which you can easily brake early for as you feel your brakes fade. Most of it is high speed which will help keep rotor temps down.

Dash and anyone else thinking of going, you should skip the lines, get fresh brake fluid, and try to make it on track. So far all I see is Me and a bunch of Miatas on the track day registration list lol. I look forward to seeing new MS3s out there with me.

I don't know shit? I know that I did 40+ driving events last year where the majority of the cars were street driven cars and had rubber lines. With an average of 90 cars per event that means that 3600 cars were on track and none went off because their rubber brake lines exploded. I don't have to troll when you make such stupid claims.

Also back on topic, I will be at Mazfest.
I thought the point of the stainless braided lines was to reduce brake fade by reducing the expansion of the brake lines during hard braking.

Anywhoo, I will attend as well.

Ollie - Brakes are overrated, they just slow you down :p

OG Ant - stfu you don't overheat your brakes since you're a boss and never use them. That's why you always pass vettes in your minivan.

SS lines are meant to make the brake pedal more consistent. When the rubber expands it makes the brake pedal feel inconsistent. For a beginner you're normally not going fast enough for this to be an issue (unless you're overusing them). Fade is due to over heating the braking system (pads or fluid typically)

See you out there!

My problem is that you took what is already good advice and blew it way out of proportion like it's the worst thing you've ever heard.

And, the fact that rubber brake lines have failed on track days in the past, gives a measure of credibility to my post. Just because you haven't seen this in your illustrious racing career, doesn't mean that it doesn't happen or hasn't happened.

Basically, you overreacted. While it isn't guaranteed that your lines will fail, you can't beat $100 bucks and a couple hours of your time for that kind of peace of mind.

Besides, if your gonna swap the brake fluid, you may as well swap the lines.

I can't believe you would be such an asshole to people you may potentially meet in person over something that isn't as ridiculous as you've made it out to be.

Telling people to get SS lines before they go racing is hardly bad advice. The real idiocy is you making such a fuss about it and claiming it's the worst thing you've ever heard.

Stainless steel lines have failed, so what do you propose now?

I didn't blow anything out of proportion. You are telling people not to go to the track because their rubber brake lines will explode, who is exaggerating? Good advice would have said that it's a good idea to change your fluid and lines, but that it's not the end of the world if you don't.

I didn't know that posting a picture and calling your bad advice ridiculous is overreacting

I'm an asshole in person, I wouldn't suddenly start being nice on the internet. I also don't do p.c. nice guy bullshit, I'll tell it like it is and I don't mind admitting when I'm wrong. That is actually helpful to people rather than defending something you know you are wrong about. People may read this and think I'm an asshole and that is fine. At least they will know they can go to the track safely.

The real idiocy is you not admitting you are wrong and that people will not suddenly shoot off track and burst into flame if they go to the track with rubber lines.

You are wrong and I am done arguing.

Once again, upgrading to SS lines for racing is not bad advice. And, while it isn't guaranteed that your rubber lines will burst or fail, it's still a good idea to swap the lines since you'll already be swapping fluid.

For fucks sake, this is like trying to play musical chairs with deaf kids.

Get over yourself.

The stock rubber lines will burst and send you off road with no brakes. Not cool.
Quoted that again since you already seem forgot you what you posted.

So all of a sudden you don't think you NEED to have ss lines because they will "burst and send you off road"?

I'm sorry I hurt your feelings. I didn't think you'd be so sensitive about being wrong. You are right, everyone should get SS lines or not go on track. In fact I'm going to email those in power to make sure they mandate it because they are "racing".

Can we be friends now?

Lulz @ hurt feelings. Gonna have to get up earlier in the morning than that if you want to scathe me.

I just think it's hilarious. You're so fucking determined to get me to say I'm wrong, you don't give a shit about anything else.

Hell, I even reworded it to suit your fragile sensibilities, yet still you persist.

Let it go, dude. You won't agree with everyone or everything in life. So, just call me an ass, chalk it up as another disagreement, and move on with your life.

So much drama.

It's the truth. I boiled fluid a ton (even the high temp stuff) and never had any trouble with the stock lines. Eventually replaced them for more consistent pedal feel.

Good to see you guys running with extreme speed and at big willow rather than back at auto club. I am going to make it back out to buttonwillow eventually.....

I'll agree only because you said it. LOL!

In all honesty, I've had rubber lines burst on me. That's why i tell people flat out that their lines will fail. Some idiots won't even bother inspecting their brakes. They'll just rush out there and start pushing.

It just makes sense to swap them if you're already swapping fluid.

I do stand by what I was saying and for the simple reason that just because this situation hasn't happened to you, doesn't mean that it doesn't happen.

It's easy for you guys who have had no problems to tell everyone everything will be fine. But, for someone who's been in an accident because of this, you tend to be a bit more dramatic when offering advice.

Now, you guys know where I'm coming from.

No drama, just making sure no one stops themselves from going to the track for silly reasons. Thank you for helping me spread reason.

It would be great to run Buttonwillow with you Ziggo. We'll miss you on the 2nd and 3rd. You'll have to let me know when you come out again. I hope all is well in TX.

Big Willow 9/29/2012 (Saturday) - 09-29-2012 - Willow Springs International Raceway
Thank you, Arnaldo for registering for the next XtremeSpeed track event!

You should plan on getting to the track between 7:00 and 7:30AM. When you arrive at the track, find a place to pit and then come to the class room meeting area. There you sign in and get your wrist band that will allow you access onto the track surface. You'll also be able to get your timing transponder for lap times.

We'll have helmets and lap timing available at the track.

Make sure your car is ready to go. This event is a self-tech event. It is your responsibility to make sure your car is safe for the race track. Be sure to download a Tech Inspection Form.

Please email sung@exteremespeedtrackevents.com with any questions.

See you at the track!

-XtremeSpeed

Damn I made a thread on this without seeing this one

I will be going. I should have my car ready for this by then... nothing major, just a good alignment and some better brake fluid but NO SS lines lol... Sorry @Dash08 ..it's not needed and it's much easier just changing fluids.

Hey man, it's your car.

I'm just an asshole who had it happen before. So, FML.

Not sure yet. I'll know about a week before the event.

@Dash08 im assuming you have a AP and did some data logging... where did you go? Long Beach is obviously close to me.. I haven't been able to find a decent safe place to do some DL so I can get tuned.

There really isn't a safe place around here. It's always a gamble. The best you can do is find an industrial area with a desolate street at night and browse the street for cops before you run.

To be honest, I do my 4th gear wot logs on the 405 fwy. at about 2 in the morning.

That's just me, I give no fucks.

IF you guys havent done SS lines before. The fronts I hear alot of peeps strip and need a wrong wrench to fix. I think front is a 13mm, pipe wrench, I picked up a cheap one, Issue was ther are all to thick to fit, Have to grind down the sides to make it a thinner size wrench.
