Jamie is your website down?

Tried going to your website and no luck

PunjabiPlaya 05-28-2011 09:16 PM

works for me

JBR 05-29-2011 06:06 AM

It is acting strange. I've had several reports of it being down over the past few days and it's not, well that I can tell. Oddly, I can't get to it from my phone but I can from my wife's ipad, my laptop and tablet.

Everybody do me a favor and try going to jamesbaroneracing.com.

Also try jamiesplanet.com, this should forward to jamesbaroneracing.com

Try from your PC, phone, ipad, tablet whatever. I really need to get to the bottom of this.

Thanks for the help.

Jamie

Dbos34 05-29-2011 06:14 AM

website works from my work computer and from my personal laptop...

SWAY 05-29-2011 06:49 AM

huh weird, just says problem loading page from my laptop

well just tried it again and it worked took a few times though

mroclimbr 05-29-2011 06:54 AM

Wouldn't load from my laptop the other day. I thought it was just my problem.

robertof 05-29-2011 09:47 AM

can't get in from phone, pc or laptop

robertof 05-29-2011 11:27 AM

It's weird I'm able to ping the IP addressfor jamiesplanet.com but I can't get in.
Can't ping the ip address for jamesbaroneracing.com
It could be a problem with godaddy.com

SLOWHATCH 05-29-2011 11:48 AM

I just tried jamiesplanet.com and jamesbaroneracing.com and no luck. I'm glad I saw this thread since I have been trying to figure out how to fine tune my shifter cables for a few days now. I even went to James Barone section here on MSF, tried the link there and still didn't work. :damnit:

oh10speed3 05-29-2011 11:56 AM

Wirked fine for me on iphone

DONOTBUGME 05-29-2011 12:01 PM

both worked on my computer and cell phone (sprint, palm pre)

dirty_derka 05-29-2011 12:12 PM

worked for me two days ago when i orderd a bunch of stuff and works just fine now

robertof 05-29-2011 12:13 PM

It could be the routing from the east coast to where the server is. From the look of the post the only ones having problem are from north east coast, west coast seems fine.

bcmountainspeed 05-29-2011 02:15 PM

I tried both and works for me

devils2k15 05-29-2011 02:48 PM

Tried on my laptop and no luck but on my phone they both work...

JBR 05-29-2011 04:51 PM

Just spoke with GoDaddy and they could not replicate the problem with internal or external PC's. He told me to clear cache and cookies.

If any of you guys having trouble could try clearing cache and cookies and let me know I'd apprecaite it.

Thanks,
Jamie

JBR 05-29-2011 05:00 PM

Could someone who can't connect go to a DOS prompt
and please type:tracert www.jamesbaroneracing.com

Then post the response please.

Thanks!!

I'm near Buffalo and I tried by clicking on Jamie's link, and it worked fine.

JBR 05-29-2011 05:25 PM

I can't ping or trace from my EVO on Sprint. No problem on At&t DSL.

mdl3v8 05-29-2011 05:44 PM

Works from my PC, no dice on my phone. Tried clearing cookies and cache and still nothing. Phone says:

Data connectivity problem
The server failed to communicate. Try again later.

Galaxy S on AT&T

i8urgti 05-29-2011 05:57 PM

worked on my laptop, too lazy to use blackberry

jwilkins88 05-29-2011 05:57 PM

Sounds like a DNS problem to me... If you're on a PC and can't get to it, open up a command prompt (Windows XP -> start -> run -> cmd; Windows Vista/7 -> start -> type in search "command prompt" -> click command prompt), and type nslookup jamesbaroneracing.com

You should see something like:

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5025/...9a41bc0b_b.jpg

DNS probably isn't replicating properly.

Someone who is having the problem can also try to add the url/ip to their host file to see if that fixes the issue.

It's also be nice to see what DNS servers everyone who is having the problem is using.

robertof 05-29-2011 08:21 PM

my IP is 192.168.1.x, jwilkins88 is 192.168.1.x

Who else that cannot connect what is your IP?

Your local IP address doesn't matter. That's an internally acquired IP that's given out by your router and/or modem dynamically. 192.168.x.x is the most common range for internal networks.

10.x.x.x is the next most common.

What is important is doing the nslookup and seeing if you can resolve that domain to an IP. Also, if you try to type in the IP address that you see in my screenshot, that should get you there regardless.

Edit: Actually, that IP address isn't getting me there... It must be a load balancer or something...

Jamie... Is godaddy hosting your site or are you using another hosting provider?

Edit Edit: Another interesting note is that the IP address resolves to p3nwhg522.shr.prod.phx3.secureserver.net

It does look like it's resolving to a load balancer of some sort

kunfu 05-29-2011 08:26 PM

Worked on my laptop, did not work on my sprint evo 4g.

Jake5713 05-29-2011 08:28 PM

Worked iPhone 4

robertof 05-29-2011 08:29 PM

I understand that part about subnets and subnet mask and hosts, was just throwing something out there to see what's going on. Sorry to get off topic.
Every time I try to go to 184.168.254.1 it tries to communicate to 217.31.57.166, which is what jwilkins just stated above.

predapio 05-29-2011 10:12 PM

Your responses are a llittle too techy for me, but my godaddy emails and website weren't working either for a couple of days...

Now it's fine.

Ok... So I think that one of two things is happening here:

1) Godaddy's DNS registry is messed up, and it's not replicating DNS information properly
2) There's something wrong with their load balancing (as I'm pretty sure all traffic is hitting load balancers before it reaches your site)

#1 seems like the more likely scenario to me.

Here's something for the people who have windows to try (if you are willing). This will guarantee that the issue is DNS, and that'll give Jamie something to take to godaddy.

If you open up your network and sharing center:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2140/...37cb2a2d_o.png

Then click on change adapter settings:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3042/...a15054a8_o.png

Then right click on Wireless Network Connection (if you're using an ethernet cable, it will probably be Local Area Connection), then click properties:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2276/...1cf994ce_o.png

Then click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click on properties:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3654/...f09150fe_o.png

Then enter the following information on the next screen. This won't mess anything up. These are perfectly good DNS servers to use:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2619/...daa59f9b_o.png

Click ok, and after all that's done, go do an nslookup jamesbaroneracing.com from a command prompt like I showed previously. You should see the following, and you should be able to get to Jamie's site if it's DNS:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2031/...61d059bc_b.jpg

Hrmmmm... The plot thickens. So it looks like DNS is fine (at least for my PC). I really wish I could get it to not work for me. That'd be tremendously helpful...

JBR 05-31-2011 10:52 AM

I have no idea what it could be but it's becoming a bigger problem. I've heard from about 10 people that they can't connect to it.

I'm gonna call godaddy again and press them to look in to it more. I know it's not there problem but what else can I do?

Thanks for all the help!!

I am using my ISP's dns servers and have no problems accessing the site, same with my phone using sprint.

@ my works PC, I am getting a time out after it hits ip-216-69-188-126.ip.secureserver.net

The DNS record seems to be reporting the correct ip.

Ok, so that rules out DNS. This is really confusing. It almost has to be something on go daddy's side of the house though.

What error is the browser showing when you try to browse to the site? 404?

Well bad that it's failing that much... Good that it's actually getting taken care of

JBR 05-31-2011 06:09 PM

Yes it is.

So I sent the traces and they are all failing at the ISP's. So unfortunately they are not helpful. They have run tests from various locations and do see the failures occurring. The tech said it looks like issues with the http service on the server. Advanced hosting support has the ticket and this should be resolved in 72 hours. We'll see.

Keep trying folks and mad thanks for all the help!!

Interesting, i can't get to your site from both my work computers or my iphone (at&t) or my work blackberry (verizon)

I have dig installed on my windows box. Here are some results.

I don't think it's a dns issue. Might be http/server related on go daddy's side like you said

jwilkins88 06-01-2011 08:40 AM

Yeah... We've ruled out DNS

JBR 06-01-2011 08:49 AM

I'm back on the phone with godaddy after receiving the "Sorry we can not duplicate the issue" e-mail from advanced hosting support. The guy I spoke to yesterday was able to.

I'm getting really pissed off now. The last thing I have time to deal with is this.

JBR 06-01-2011 09:01 AM

godaddy told me to go fuck myself and that it's not there problem.

They told me to get with the ISP that cannot connect.

So can anyone that is having a problem connecting call there ISP and work with them?
I will make it worth your while.

I don't know who your internet provider is but that is who you would need to call. You would need to explain to the provider that you can not connect to the site but others can.

That's all I know right now. I'm on the phone with my provider (Sprint) now waiting to get told to fuck off. I am so pissed!

JBR 06-01-2011 07:04 PM

All fixed now. All I did was switch from windows hosting to Linux hosting. It's still running with Godaddy so I'm pretty pissed they totally blew me off.

The site is going through a complete ground up redesign and should be awesome in a few weeks.

Thanks everybody for the help.

So everything should be working now. There was multiple permissions issues that had to be dealt with as a result of moving over to Linux.

I really appreciate how you all came together to help out; it really means a lot to me.

Thanks!!
Jamie

When the new site is up I should be able to do discounts codes and we'll do something then.

Thanks,

GoDaddy hosting has gone to shit. I know plenty of people that have moved their hosting to other providers because of situations just like this.

I am very happy that the site is now working on the Linux box (and I agree Linux hosting is better) but the crappiest Windows box around could host your current site with no issues. It's just basic html. I would still point my finger at GoDaddy for all of your headaches.

Here's a preview of the new site; home page only.

Questions, comments, suggestions?

i can say that the cart integration is much smoother than the existing site. especially like how it brings you back to the jbr site for special shipping instructions.

odds of me getting the ssp and rmm i ordered on the current site... hopefully pretty good

Hey Jamie, I was checking out the customer rides section and your car is the only one that doesn't work. Your pictures in the JBR Installs thread are also not working. Is this on purpose?

I know. The site is being completely redesign so I've not spent much time with the current one. I hope to launch the new site in a couple of weeks. It really looks awesome.
