Yea you two can work out all the bugs :) we both should see some great gains with this intake seeing as a 3 inch intake on a stock ko4 can get you about 10whp.

Did you guys ever get to run each other? Just curious. Haha. Tuning this intake should be a piece of cake, so no worries there! Let me know when you guys are ready to go.

No we never got a chance unfortunately. His car was having afr issues and when he texted me to meet up of course my phone was dead and I didn't see it until I got back to the house. It would be an Awesome race.

taf0422 07-04-2012 08:44 AM

He beat me to it! Yep sadly no race. My car that weekend was having the coolant temp in the 240+ range! Thermostat got stuck and then i got stuck with a $350 repair bill!! Screw you mazda of salisbury!!

It would have been an awesome race!! It will be left with a to be continued!!! We will have to meet up

I'm really interested/hoping for for some comparisons of this intake vs. other stock-MAF-diameter aftermarket intakes (CS, etc., etc.) on the stock K04. If a noticeable amount of power can be gained even on the stock turbo with this intake vs. others, I'll be all over it. If not, the necessity of ECU relocation and inability to simply "bolt it on and run with it" might discourage some stock turbo guys from choosing this over other options (not that either of those factors are good reasons to avoid this intake...)

Definitely an amazing product regardless... JBR wins again! :)

I'm pretty sure there's a thread already and there is no discouragement. It's well worth it.

Well, I was hoping to be a bit hung over today and spending it in the pool but, like every other day I decided to get some work done.

Added air an air straightener and couplers to the product page along with some marketing propaganda.

Hope you guys are enjoying your 4th.

Mazdaspeed 3 (07' - 2012) : James Barone Racing, Custom Fabrication

Thanks,
Jamie

Boost Addict 07-04-2012 12:23 PM

@jbarone, you said you've been running yours with no air straightener for some time now with no problems, correct?

exentix 07-04-2012 12:32 PM

go enjoy your holiday man you deserve it =)

JBR 07-04-2012 12:34 PM

I did say that and I'm not, nor have I had the need to run one. I put in an inventory for those that really want to have one and so that that they can get the intake and straightener from one place instead of two.

Thanks,
Jamie

You are just reselling the same product that Treadstone sells, right? The think you linked to on page 1. I would have bought it from you but I didn't know you were going to start selling it too.

And like I said, I got one from Treadstone, but it had loose cuttings or burs or whatever you want to call it around the edges. I tried to clean it up best I can by running a fingernail along each edge.

[EDIT: BTW, page 1 of this thread still links to Treadstone instead of your own site!]

JBR 07-04-2012 01:51 PM

Similar to the Treadstone but not the same and not from Treadstone. I ordered these in a few weeks ago and didn't even know they arrived until we started restocking this morning.

Our inventory system flags items for re-order and then we place the order. Well, sometimes until we actually run out of something do I go looking through the mountain of boxes waiting to be unpacked. I found them so I put them on the site. TMI...I know.

Hmm. Okay. Well, I would buy yours, but, I already got the Treadstone. Maybe yours has better edge cleanup than the Treadstone. At any rate, you might edit page 1 so that it no longer links to Treadstone.

I was looking to day and with some trimming to the battery tray this intake may just fit.

@Speedie6

Are you attempting this? what is your plan to secure the battery?

Jamie, will a 3" coupler be offered in the future to mate with a GTX2867r?

Well, honestly, if it fits, it would be so tight that you probably wouldn't need anything to secure the battery. However, long ago, I bought a battery hold-down that runs longwise, opposite of the stock hold-down. I drilled a couple of small holes in the tray for the hooks for my hold-down. But, again, I think you wouldn't even need it.

I haven't got mine yet. USPS says it should be here Thursday.

Mistersix 07-05-2012 05:42 AM

ya a strap that runs long ways. good idea. Where did you find that? local or online. I was thinking of just buying some aluminum stock and making one.

dantes5823 07-05-2012 06:54 AM

I have an Htp inlet and my battery box isn't bolted but haz ZERO play. I also have a bigger battery. And I did another bt build yesterday same inlet and again the box isn't budging at all.

silentwolf8 07-05-2012 08:28 AM

@jbarone

Hey guys got the intake installed.. took abit of finagaling cause of the size but it def takes every but of room you have with battery in.. not sure how it will fit with you 6's but the 3's if you keep battery tray in it, it fits snugly.. i have no play in the intake what so ever.

Only thing i see with a TMIC is the BOV and the intake itself sit right on each other.. i curently have the COBB BPV so yes it sits on it but i dont see the intake or the BPV moving so a whole in the filter is most liekly 0% likely to happen.. I dont know about other BOV set ups with a TMIC.

as far as the ECU relocation, i had placed mine ontop of the Fuse box.. with the way the wires are and the fitment with intake in, the fuse box just seemed to be more plozible. i sure you could take off the bif white plastic thing holding the wires together, but me i didnt want to find out what was in that, so i worked with what i had.

Now the only issue im running into right now, is the car runs way lean on idle.. Im pretty sure its due to the mass of air flowing in now. I got to tweak my fuel in my map to bring it back down.. During driving the car runs fairly good, for right now because of the lean out. the AFR does come down wants the fuel is flowing alot more, but as soon as i deccelerate and try to throttle back into it, it kinda bogs down till i can pump the fuel into it..

I just wanted to bring this to everyones attentions that you will probably need a map or tweak ur own pretty quick after installing it.. Now if jamie didnt run into this, maybe cause of mods or because everycar is different, but this is what im running into atm..

But over all.. the piece is GREAT, looks sexy, and def a tight fit.. Im at work at the moment, so ill try and get some pics up later, or ill have my friend email me the pictures he had takin so show all installed the in the issue i was talkign about with the BPV.

Please, Please do a MAF cal ASAP. That should really be all you need to do to get whatever map you are running to work well. As for the BPV coming in contact with the filter....Don't be afraid to tug on the mount bracket. The flimsy bracket the intake attaches to can be tweaked very easily. And yes it's a tight fit. This is not a small intake and it's black if you catch my drift.

Thanks,
Jamie

ya the car is sitting in the garage right now, awaiting the MAF calculation.. just wanted to make sure that you had the same thing and it wasnt just my car..

I pulled on the intake abit to get the BPV to fit good.. but like i said it still sits on the filter, but for me it doesnt bother me cause nothing right there moves, so i dont see it ever rubbing a hole into it.

And drift def caught. lol :slap:

Edit with pictures of the BPV thing i was saying.. you can also see my ECU to the right attacehd to the top of the fuse box.. Ill take coupld more tonight with flash and the whole setup.. or at lunch.. but these were done from my buddies phone.

JBR 07-05-2012 09:15 AM

I obviously couldn't test every BPV but I believe I tested bigger than the Cobb. It should not hit. You can also tweak the mounting tab on the intake too.

i attached pictures above your post jamie.. but me personnally am not worried about it one bit.. i just wanted other to be aware so if they come across same issues..

Still GREAT product man, along with everything else.. no complaints at all with any of your stuff. :friday:

exentix 07-05-2012 09:23 AM

damn, looks like mine would be sitting the same way with my cobb bpv. at least i know now. but your right, nothing there should move enough to cause any problems.

JBR 07-05-2012 09:30 AM

That thing is a lot taller than it looks in pictures. I thought the turbo XS RFL was big.

exentix 07-05-2012 09:35 AM

gives a reason to go fmic i guess lol

silentwolf8 07-05-2012 09:41 AM

True enough.. lol its in my next 2 buys. :smashfreakB:

taf0422 07-05-2012 10:28 AM

Mine is out for delivery!! Cant wait to put this on tonight! Will take photos of what it looks like with fmic!

@atvfreek , you available tomorrow? I took the day off. Lol. Looks like a maf cal is pretty much immediately needed.

Ziggo 07-05-2012 11:25 AM

You shouldn't even start the car without
making a MAF adjustment.

To that point, is this a 3.5" OD or ID?

Zigatapatalka

silentwolf8 07-05-2012 11:40 AM

working that one now with the calibrations.. and its alrdy on.. but from trying to measure what i can it looks like the ID even if it was the OD the metal isnt that thick.

3.375" ID

Ziggo 07-05-2012 12:05 PM

So for someone moving from a stock sized MAF (2.75" IIRC) to this intake, you should multiply your whole MAFCAL by 1.51.

That should get you in the ballpark.

Stock is 2.63"

What was your highest g/s number on the MAF cal you started with?

Zigatapatalka

I think it's more of a 66% increase. (new ID in mm / stock)^2. So (85.72/66.5)^2

Deldran 07-05-2012 12:37 PM

Sorry for nub question, but since this will either be in my near future. When you say multiply your mafcal. buy 1.5 or whatever number you just mean going to Maf Cal a&b tables and selecting all fields and multiplying buy said number correct?
