I agree. GT3071 is $1450 and stock housing GT3071 is $1850. Easy choice.

FML... I'm a little drunk and way too busy at work and way too lazy to read all 22 pages. Can someone just let me know where to send my small fortune for all the parts I need to make 500+ awhp?

Send $750 to Leen for manifold, send ummm....don't know how much (maybe $600?) to djuosnteisn for downpipe, and then get a GT3582R from ATP for ~$1600.

Only problem is the downpipe was made to fit a GT turbo. GT exhaust housings sit differently than typical t3/t4 turbos. Pretty sure things wouldn't line up. That is unless they offer GT style housings for Precision turbos.

Leen...when you say performance, I asssume a T3 twin scroll will spool faster? how about the Tial v-band?

Twin scroll spools very quickly and a T3 or Tial v-band inlet has the ability to flow way more than the stock inlet. It's very easy to see that the T3 and Tial housings have way bigger holes.

from what I'm reading the T3 TS spools faster, but the v-band has higher max flow on top end. I'm guessing with our engines being relatively low revvers, that a T3 TS will be enough?

Yeah, twin scroll is definitely a fast spooler, but Tial housing is so awesome because A) it has v-band flange so you can take the turbo off in .2 sec and B) it's the lightest possible housing if you're trying to cut some weight.

All I know is, I had a GT turbo on my previous car and it unfortunately died (don't ask) so I tried to put a cheaper t3/t4 on it. The compressor hit up against the transmission so that the turbo couldn't sit up against the manifold flange. Also, the neck of a t3/t4 is different, so it pointed the downpipe down at the ground. Both of these were with Ford 5-bolt discharge.

Just using my own failed experience with trying to use GT and t3/t4

From what I have heard over the years the Borg Warner are a much better quality turbo with nowhere near the faliure rate of the Garrett products.

I genuinely don't think there would be much of a difference, if any at all, but I can't say for sure. If anyone with a t3 exhaust housing for the GT turbo will take some measurements, I'd be glad to do the same with my Precision housing, although mine is a t4. Do you already have a manifold?

No, but like I said in my other post, I tried to swap out a GT turbo for a regular T3 57 trim and it absolutely would not fit. The T3 turbo was journal bearing and the center section was wider than a GT center section. I'm not sure if the center section of a ball bearing Precision is the same width, but I know the housing is not the same as a GT housing.

The Garrett website already has measurements. If you'd like to measure your center section as well as how far the edge of your exhaust flange sits over the center section (what I call the "offset"), then we can compare.

Hvaing taken Leen's suggestion, I've looked up some BW turbo's....and they do look good, esp the new EFR series, if and when they eliminate the build in BOV. I'd consider the IWG option with the EFR's, but the non-WG'd versions costs about $200 less, still $1800 tho...

A S259 with a T3 divided would be cool and much more accessible.

I was thinking of charging like $550 for dp, intake, and modded oil / coolant lines for the first few builds. Once things look good, i may charge $600, but not sure what's reasonable. We'll see where it goes.

The difference will be minute, and there well be plenty of flex with the flex section and cat back exhaust hangers to move the flange around quite a bit.

The most crucial design aspect is to make sure that the v-band flange is square to the 2 bolt flange on the other end. Once that's dialed in (purpose of the jig lol), you'll be able to pull the flange around far enough to likely accomodate quite a few slight differences in turbo locations.

Hahaha, it'll fit man, no worries. I'll make sure of it.

Very interested in all of this since When I come back from
Desert will have money and car payed off!!! I'm not huge on turbo or manifold knowledge but any suggestions in turbo, WG options. I dont want huge power maybe like 340awhp 375awftlbs? I def want this top mount setup jst don't know on the above mentioned. Also will probably be doing rods at same time as I do not want to fuck with lowering compression with high performance pistons. Is this good idea? Sry for alight thread Jack.

DJ would it be possible to use these modded oil and coolant lines on a stock placement bt? or would you consider making some for people wanting to get a t3 turbo in the stock position.

So we are talking about a dp, manifold, oil/water lines, and intake for 1200. Sounds like a very cheap option for someone deciding to go this route. throw in the turbo and ewg and its still under 3k, nice!

Well, technically $1300, but who's counting anyway

For $3k, yes, it's a great deal for being baller status. Exciting times.

Oh, one other thing. What mods are needed to make the charge pipe coming off the compressor to fit?
For the hot pipe, it'll largely depend on what turbo you use, and how you clock it. But my guess is you could probably get away with some 45* couplers and creativity. I don't think it'll be all that much different that the oem placement. May just have to cut the hot pipe or something.

Yeah, you could use them for whatever i guess. Basically all i'll do is cut the stock lines, and tig some AN fittings onto them. AN4 for the oil feed, and AN10 for the return. At that point you'd just need shorter lines for stock placement i imagine.

This will be one of the more tricky parts of the kit.. I'll have one set already modded, and i can send it out to people, but they'd have to send me their stock lines back pretty quick, so i could mod and send out to the next person. Eventually i'll check some pricing on the lines, and see if i can just order a few sets to have more stock, but i'm kinda feeling this all out as i go.

The goal behind these kits is to make an affordable, easy, blingy solution, to get alot more higher hp speeds out there... I want to see mazdaspeed become a bigger name in the tuner market personally. IMO, they are very impressive cars, just most people are stuck with what they know (subie, evo, srt). $550 is probably an intro price, but depending on how much demand there is, it may change in the future. Time will tell on that one, lol. I can't imagine it going much higher than that though.

Funny part is that i actually enjoy fabbing stuff still...

Yeah, I find it very interesting that more big power parts haven't come out for such an awesome platform. A lot of the other cars have been out for a little longer and that helps, but the MS3 is at the 4 year mark now, so things definitely need to speed up a lil bit!

Thanks for being one of the pioneers

Dustin on the speed6's you're doing like an over the valve cover hot pipe right? Is there enough room on the speed6 with the TC and everything down there to do an undercar route? What about on the speed3? I haven't seen how far to either side the mani sits so I didn't know if room permitted for piping.

my 3 inch intercooler piping is being routed under car..

hope that helps.

there is enough room when you clock the compressor housing with the outlet pointed down into the engine bay .

werd. thats how mine is, my compressor out is perfectly vertical downwards. I've just never been under a speed6 and didn't know how much room you had to play with.

Thats sweet though. I really do think that the undercar routing helps immensely with BAT's. Especially for a top mount setup where you've got a turbo sitting right there. The difference I see compared to my cp-e fmic is unbelievable. Yes, that isn't the only variable which changed, but I think a lot of it can be contributed to that.
