as far as support goes, i think you have huge support already, i mean look at how many people (including myself) chomping at the bit to be the first to rock your sex beam set up, just wait till all the bt threads are featuring top mounts...man your definitely gonna need to carry some pepto biz with you at all times in case someone from your work catches you outside your garage haha

The first few are going pretty cheap... (i'm probably losing $ when you factor my time in), but that's how you proof the things out, get em on a few cars. After than i was thinking like $700 for everything, down pipe, intake, modded oil & coolant lines. But who knows.. i need to do proper costing.

700 is still really cheap IMO. 700 for dp, intake and modded lines is as cheap as you can get for any platform especially ours. plus its going to be proven performance. even just a cobb dp and cobb sri your looking at 700 minus the tip

I've been down the road of an abused GT turbo being sold as good. Looking for something in better shape than that. One of those purchased new and decided not to use turbo's ideally. I think as picky as I want I'll be ordering new though and that blows goats pricewise. Oddly enough, ATP is showing the best price on what I want. Anyone have another recommended shop besides extreme?

excuse my ignorance but i don't feel like reading through almost 1,200 posts lol. in short, for noobs like me:

assuming you want to get a new manifold and a bigger turbo, what's the advantage of a top-mounted turbo setup over a normal turbo setup? just more room to work with? scrolling through this thread it seems like you have to get a crapload of custom-made stuff to even make it work.

basically just read the first post and you have the general idea. plus the bling of having the turbo on top is no downside. yes there is some custom stuff that needs to be made but there are custom things that need to be done with any bt that is not a stock flange unit.

i mean, steedspeed is selling a top mounted turbo manifold so there seems to be a market for it. but unless you're having room-issues with the turbo and/or want to mess around with it a lot it's just for the bling-factor or is there also a performance gain with this setup that makes the headache of getting a bunch of custom-made stuff worth it?

in other words: say i want to go BT, get a manifold, mate it with a bigger turbo of some sort and enjoy the car without messing around with the turbo-setup every other day, why should i consider a top mounted setup over a normal setup? better airflow, colder bat's or anything like that?

generally if you go t3 turbo in any location, you will need a new downpipe, new intake, new oil lines, new coolant lines, custom everything. so puttin it up top makes it easier to work on and looks sexy, but is no more/less work than any non stock flange turbo setup

i say its a huge difference vs stock location. no more blown out knees when trying to work on the shit. if i hadn't already dropped too much money into what i have now id jump on the bandwagon for a top mount set up in a heartbeat.


anyone thats worked on these cars knows what i pain in the dick it is to get to the turbo/dp/mani area without feeling like your knee's are going to blow out. top mount just looks damn good and makes your shit about 100 times easier to get to and work on.

Basically, I +1 to what the others said. Though, if you with the ATP turbos in stock location, then yes, you need a lot less new parts and maybe that is more what you want. But, if you want a T3 turbo, then you need all the crap regardless of where it is located.

I personally went with stock location for 2 reasons, for one, I didn't see this thread until after I started the project. And 2, I had a CPE downpipe that I could mod to have a vband connection on it. So, I got away with *slightly* less new stuff. But, if I was doing again, this is clearly the way to go.

Also, there shouldn't really be any custom fab work needed to be done besides a dump tube when Dustin is through making this kit. It will almost be an effectively bolt-on setup

Oh, I forgot to mention..... as far as performance in going top mount, none in and of itself. But, there are no other twin scroll manifolds for this car. So, if you want twin scroll, this is the only option.

I was thinking of asking Leen if he'd make a twin scroll for bottom mount simply because I already have my DP and lines done. So, perhaps, Leen would do this so the performance options would be the same topmount or bottom mount.

But at least at the moment, twin scroll, this is the only game in town.
