I'm not 100% sure if' i'd write the performance gain off as "same" between the top and stock mount.


Top mount has 1 major benefit in my mind... true twin scroll. AFAIK, it's the only production twin scroll mani available in our aftermarket.


Secondly... I seem to remember Leen stating how nice the runner flow was on this top mount, and how this manifold was gonna be capable of some serious power. I'd have to compare it side by side with the stock mount one... but from the top mount manifold i've seen, i concur fully.... this manifold will indeed make some power.

Sorry i haven't been posting any top mount kit love lately... i've been bolting my car up to make some room for the ms3

Gonzo-fied my compressor so it'll actually fit under the hood lolol








Oil lines are in as well, manifold is finished.... all i need is a 3"-2.5" coupler for my compressor (lol at a 3" o.d. compressor outlet), and my large frame oil return flange to show up.


Then it's show time.

I've wondered if Leen might make a twin scroll for stock location. I agree topmount is better, I've already gone the stock location. So, I might someday want to upgrade to twin scroll and would prefer, since I've already gone this route, to stick with stock location.

Question: are all of us going to need to hack up our compressor covers to make this work? I know yours is larger (yea we know you have a big dick) than most we'll all be running and I also know hood clearance will be an issue. Do you think most of us will be able to get away with using a 45* or 90* silicone coupler?

yeah we should be able to get away with a 45* or 90* for sure. i will keep you posted when we test fit my ms3

You WANT a cat or NEED a cat?

I just can't imagine anyone seriously wanting a cat in the exhaust. He said for the extra cost he could add one in if need be though.

I don't know about aviator's reasons, but, I use a cat in mine too. A good cat doesn't detract but a few HP. And, call me a pussy, but, I see no reason to be gratuitous in adding pollution. Its a hundred bucks or so, only drops a couple of HP, and does decrease emissions.

Na, normal sized turbos will fit fine IMO. I'll post up pics when we install darryl and eric's setups.

DOn't mean to sound like a dick, but I do anyways. A good cat? Is that like military intelligence or business ethics? Whatever you need to justify the use is fine with me, but a modern engine tuned properly passes emissions tests without cats easily. At WOT, that cat ain't helping anymore than a real cat in the exhaust would. Cats served their purpose in the 70's along with smog pumps, multiple sparks plugs and all that other sad engineering that took place. There is no true purpose today other than making money on people for the purchase of them and the money the states and feds make on the testing if you are subject to that BS.

Agreed, modern efi and ecu capabilities have come a long way, and do a much better job at regulating the fueling, helping reduce overly lean afr's and nox emissions etc. Pair that with ecu controlled EGR, and you get a very low emission motor for 95% of your driving.

Personally, i don't care one way or the other. If you want a cat, excellent. If not, that's fine. I choose not to have one, cause IMO there is a reduction in power.



The turbine operates at a certain pressure ratio to spin the turbo. Because of this, any back pressure in the turbo back will essentially be multiplied across the turbine, and result in higher pressure in the exhaust manifold. The goal for maximum VE is to have minimum exh pressure in the manifold.


Here's a quicky example (exaggerated to show the concept):

Suppose your turbine PR is 2:1. And you have 10 psi of back pressure in the TBE. That means you have 20 psi in the exhaust manifold (2 x 10).

Now lets say you fit the car with an upgraded exhaust, and perhaps remove a cat, or upgrade to a high flow version. And now your back pressure in the TBE drops to 5psi... Your new exh manifold pressure dropped all the way down to 10psi (2 x 5).



Look at that... a 5 psi reduction in TBE resulted in a 10 psi reduction in the exh mani. That's because the turbine's pressure ratio is essentially a multiplier. And it's also the reason why on turbo cars..... bigger really is better. Ideally you'd have no exhaust, and just let the turbine dump to atmosphere lol.... or even better, have it dump to a vacuum.

Here's an on-topic question: So I was really really hard set on running my 2871...but I used to have a Talon with a Borg Warner S256 on it and it sounded sick. BWs have that constant whistle to them that sets them apart from every other turbo. I know the frame on the BW is quite large...I'm thinking it won't fit your kit, right Dustin? If not, it's cool, I'll stick with the 2871.

maybe turd can measure with a ruler or something when they test fit the mani on a 3. Other wise, i can do the same on a 6 when i get a chance.

I'm confused...you're holding a BW housing in your hand...I also noticed that the CHRA is very wide on a BW. I know I said this about t3/t4s, that they are wider than GT series, but I am POSITIVE that a BW is wider than a GT and just don't see how your downpipe could flex enough to mate up with catback. If it does, I'm game

That compressor is going on my own custom tubular manifold, sorry for the confusion.




I don't think it would fit the steedspeed to be honest. There's only like 1/2" clearance on either side of the turbo, and it took me quite a while to get the flanges setup perfect.



There's 2 things going on in this thread basically lol. 1) is top mount turbo progress for the SteedSpeed manifold, and the kit i'm building to accompany it. 2) occasional progress on my build. Which is what that compressor pic was all about.

I need to just start a new build thread, and stop being so distracting in the thread lol.

Dustin, I completely understand that there are two builds going on in here. I was just wondering since you have a BW in your possession, if you'd be able to test fit it with the SS mani

Looks like it won't work. I'll just use my 2871...or cheap out and get a bigger T-series if I want more power. Tough choice. Carry on

Lol, i'm glad you weren't literally that confused, hahahahaha.


I did hold my BW on to the SS mani at one point, but it didn't look like it was gonna fit. It was just real quick for giggles, but i don't remember whether it hit the fire wall or the valve cover.

They actually are the same color. The red is new, the orange is after use. They'll both be orange after a few runs.
